As the resident phantom of the Drag Duel universe, I did want to weigh in here to maybe give a perspective as someone who regularly covers drag competitions/drag culture. It's not a coincidence that many of the performers with alternative and nontraditional styles and perspectives on drag feel that they are overlooked or mistreated by the fanbase. These biases may not be intentional but they do manifest because of the drag we're so used to seeing in the mainstream, and the kind of drag that gets rewarded. All of this to say that we all have our opinions, but these are performers are working so hard to give us a show each week, and they don't have the separation of a television screen to shield them from people sharing their opinions into the little comment box down here. It's an internet competition, they can't not engage with people who watch the show. And being judged is hard! I definitely couldn't do it (that's why I do video essays and not drag, lmao), so I commend every competitor who shows up and puts themselves out there. Rosa, Tyler, Bobby, Glass, Trisha, we see you and we love and appreciate what you do! And that's not to say I don't adore everyone in this cast, because I do. Completely agree!! I’ve talked about it in previous episodes, I think orbit has the most developed brand out of all of us, and I’ve loved seeing her explore and show that brand to us week by week ❤️ So happy she gets the recognition for that!

Being a person who actively watches each week to see the amazing group of talent. This episode with Rosa really hit home to me personally as a fellow trans-nonbinary artist POC. I feel like we as artist tend to get overlooked in the scene and I wish things where different but just know that there are fans who support and love all ya'll especially those who have been getting hate. People truly need to understand that drag is art and it truly takes a lot of time, money, effort, and determination to show up each week and showcase who they are

I feel so much for Rosa, my mother has been disabled all my life and even though I have helped taken care of her, she has been in and out of the hospital so much and I was always so scared of losing her, I hope it is all goes well, I love you so much and all of the drag duel cast (I hope to be on season 2)

Susan? having the most factual take regarding the whole Orbit VS Rosa debacle makes this A) So much more clear (( and hilarious)) to understand as a viewer and B) really cements Susan? as one of the primary narrators this season. As a Super Villain myself, I love and appreciate Rosa's unwavering statements. I really love when a performer is just so unafraid to say what's on their mind. I also love Orbit as her humor is just top notch and has the essence of an entertainer. She is just so unbothered and that makes me Teehee just a little bit as I kick my feet like a school girl. This fight is just so silly and so unserious cause like... let's be brutally honest with ourselves here. Being mad at someone who gave their opinion during a confessional is just slightly unhinged behavior. Don't get me wrong, Rosa's feelings are valid, but come on girl, you cannot sit there with a serious face and tell me that in of itself justifies your misplaced anger. It really does just sound like insecurities jumping out and latching onto the individual who gave their opinion.
Hey hey! Just coming on here to answer some of people’s questions and maybe misconceptions about all of this. Haven’t been checking comments until today for my mental health ❤️ While I stand by everything I said, I do think a lot of it was spurred by a particularly sensitive emotional state I found myself in as was shown in the episode. I also think, not being able to show what happened in chat and what happens behind the scenes takes away a lot of context that I tried to give but maybe didn’t come across! I actually conferred with some of the cast before blowing up in chat, because I thought maybe I was being too dramatic in taking Orbit’s words personally, but some agreed that it was definitely a step too far and thus I thought it was fair for me to bring up! All this to say, there was a context and a reasoning for my anger, and I thought it justified to bring it up in confessionals as it was topical. I’d ask people not jump to the conclusion that I was projecting or that I was just in my feels, as that in an of itself is tone policing and assuming from an edited reality show. Of course, we live and we learn, and I’m here as well to learn from this situation so I hope we all can do the same ❤️ lots of love and thanks for watching!
Wait, y'all aren't allowed to show any behind the scenes stuff such as screenshots from chat? Is that like a legal/contractual obligation? I ask because I fully agree that there is simply a metric fuck ton of context we're not seeing, however, from what is being shown to the audience and viewers, my deduction was what seemed to be the case BECAUSE that's what was shown. I'm not claiming my observation to be 100% correct, this was simply what was seen. I also feel that if you guys were allowed to show certain conversations in the episodes, some of the comments and assumptions would be subject to change. I harbor no ill will or intentions towards you or anyone in the cast/crew, this was simply my observation based on the edit we got to see. Not to sound like I disagree with Rosa's actual point.....but there is a certain irony in specifically singling out two trans, Native American contestants as "fan faves who can do no wrong" in a conversation about intersectionality when it comes to fan reception
Hey hi! Just coming in here to reply to some comments, I’ve been taking a bit of a social media break in order to focus on my mental health. First, I want to say I completely agree that indigineity in the North American context is a very topical and consequent part of conversations about intersectionality. That said, I do want to also expand that intersectionality is just that - the diverse aspects of our identities exerting different dynamics of power depending on the context and situation at hand. Conversations about intersectionality also have to take into account our relative power in the queer community, our citizenship statuses, our age, our location in the world, etc. Me stating that in this context, certain contestants have privilege, does not take away from the true gravity of their loved experiences of indigenous OR trans identities. I was simply bringing to light what I, from my perspective as someone who has gotten relatively much lower and much colder response, saw as a certain privilege in the fan response to some contestants. I find that to be a decently important point here, but I would love to hear any disagreeing opinions of course. And, as I’ve noted, this isn’t to take away from their identities at all either, as I’ve also been able to speak to each on the impacts of their visibility as indigenous artists and as a trans NB person myself also understand the importance of trans voices in our community! Anyways, thanks again, lots of love and thanks for watching ❤️
Rosa needs to realize that is not her looks or skills that people are disliking, her attitude is very off putting, she comes across as sardonic, traumatized and wraps her entire character in self-pity consistently reminding everybody how marginalized she is. She works so hard and her Venus music video was actually my favorite, because of the concept and work put into it. I really hope she can overcome the tremendous hurt she had to face so her talent can really come through as she is indeed incredible.

First off, thank you for your kindness towards my Venus video, I also have a very special place in my heart for it. That said, I do want to contend with the fact that my personality as a whole is self pitying or sardonic. My personality is real, it’s a composite of the joys I’ve experienced as well as the trauma I’ve had to endure. I’ve taken my time on drag duel to share my story, a story that’s shared by many people within and outside of our community and for that I will never be ashamed. This marginalization is something REAL that performers experience outside of the competition itself in their local scenes and day to day lives. I’ve spoken on it so heavily here because it’s something that’s rarely discussed in drag competitions. The dynamics of power and privilege in our community are understandably complex, and as someone who has built their drag around social activism and awareness, I want to use my story to explore those themes as best as I can with my limited life experience and knowledge. I’m sorry if I come off a bit whiny, I’ve gotten that a lot in my life, but I do try my best to show the breadth of the queer experience - be it joy, trauma, shade, euphoria, or anything else. I hope this gives a bit of perspective on why I talk about these things so often, and to show I’m not just my trauma or marginalization! Lots of love, and thanks for watching ❤️

Maybe she doesn’t know what a mircoagression is but like don’t use that word when it’s not giving. and people saying the Alt queens are being over looked by the fan base is weird to me some queens just have more followers that’s probably why they’re getting more love Christie’s drag isn’t even traditional drag Christie’s drag is like internet girlie fish vibes which all a queens look down upon let’s be real and since she has more followers it’s gonna look like she has more fans.

Tik Tok Internet girls are definitely overlooked in the real drag scene we saw it on the show a whole bunch of times aquaria is an example of them doing well on the show doesn’t mean that they don’t get hate still .
Even if it's looked down upon by other queens, the follower counts indicate that that type of drag is indeed popular with fans and Rosa was talking about fan reception

I feel so much for Rosa, my mother has been disabled all my life and even though I have helped taken care of her, she has been in and out of the hospital so much and I was always so scared of losing her, I hope it is all goes well, I love you so much and all of the drag duel cast (I hope to be on season 2)

Susan? having the most factual take regarding the whole Orbit VS Rosa debacle makes this A) So much more clear (( and hilarious)) to understand as a viewer and B) really cements Susan? as one of the primary narrators this season. As a Super Villain myself, I love and appreciate Rosa's unwavering statements. I really love when a performer is just so unafraid to say what's on their mind. I also love Orbit as her humor is just top notch and has the essence of an entertainer. She is just so unbothered and that makes me Teehee just a little bit as I kick my feet like a school girl. This fight is just so silly and so unserious cause like... let's be brutally honest with ourselves here. Being mad at someone who gave their opinion during a confessional is just slightly unhinged behavior. Don't get me wrong, Rosa's feelings are valid, but come on girl, you cannot sit there with a serious face and tell me that in of itself justifies your misplaced anger. It really does just sound like insecurities jumping out and latching onto the individual who gave their opinion.

While I stand by everything I said, I do think a lot of it was spurred by a particularly sensitive emotional state I found myself in as was shown in the episode. I also think, not being able to show what happened in chat and what happens behind the scenes takes away a lot of context that I tried to give but maybe didn’t come across! I actually conferred with some of the cast before blowing up in chat, because I thought maybe I was being too dramatic in taking Orbit’s words personally, but some agreed that it was definitely a step too far and thus I thought it was fair for me to bring up! All this to say, there was a context and a reasoning for my anger, and I thought it justified to bring it up in confessionals as it was topical. I’d ask people not jump to the conclusion that I was projecting or that I was just in my feels, as that in an of itself is tone policing and assuming from an edited reality show. Of course, we live and we learn, and I’m here as well to learn from this situation so I hope we all can do the same ❤️ lots of love and thanks for watching!
Wait, y'all aren't allowed to show any behind the scenes stuff such as screenshots from chat? Is that like a legal/contractual obligation? I ask because I fully agree that there is simply a metric fuck ton of context we're not seeing, however, from what is being shown to the audience and viewers, my deduction was what seemed to be the case BECAUSE that's what was shown. I'm not claiming my observation to be 100% correct, this was simply what was seen. I also feel that if you guys were allowed to show certain conversations in the episodes, some of the comments and assumptions would be subject to change. I harbor no ill will or intentions towards you or anyone in the cast/crew, this was simply my observation based on the edit we got to see. Of course, it would be great to show all of the context, and I know we try our best (within the constraints of personal perspective and bias) to communicate the context. In the comments, I've tried as well to do so in some of my replies to these comments. Also, of course, I don't really believe that you nor anyone is harboring actual negative feelings! I know we are all just online and tone/perspective are very easily misinterpreted - but on my end no hard feelings either

Regardless of our little tiff (or however, not little it seemed) I have so so much love and respect for Orbit. While I have my opinions, I do also just want everyone to enjoy the show, and the drama for what it is - silly drama amongst a group of people on a reality competition! Again, not calling you out at all, and I really do appreciate the support, but just want to make clear I don't want anyone to go after or campaign against Orbit, she is still my sister and I love and respect each and every cast member

Not to sound like I disagree with Rosa's actual point.....but there is a certain irony in specifically singling out two trans, Native American contestants as "fan faves who can do no wrong" in a conversation about intersectionality when it comes to fan reception
Hey hi! Just coming in here to reply to some comments, I’ve been taking a bit of a social media break in order to focus on my mental health.
First, I want to say I completely agree that indigineity in the North American context is a very topical and consequent part of conversations about intersectionality. That said, I do want to also expand that intersectionality is just that - the diverse aspects of our identities exerting different dynamics of power depending on the context and situation at hand. Conversations about intersectionality also have to take into account our relative power in the queer community, our citizenship statuses, our age, our location in the world, etc. Me stating that in this context, certain contestants have privilege, does not take away from the true gravity of their loved experiences of indigenous OR trans identities. I was simply bringing to light what I, from my perspective as someone who has gotten relatively much lower and much colder response, saw as a certain privilege in the fan response to some contestants. I find that to be a decently important point here, but I would love to hear any disagreeing opinions of course. And, as I’ve noted, this isn’t to take away from their identities at all either, as I’ve also been able to speak to each on the impacts of their visibility as indigenous artists and as a trans NB person myself also understand the importance of trans voices in our community! Anyways, thanks again, lots of love and thanks for watching ❤️

Rosa needs to realize that is not her looks or skills that people are disliking, her attitude is very off putting, she comes across as sardonic, traumatized and wraps her entire character in self-pity consistently reminding everybody how marginalized she is. She works so hard and her Venus music video was actually my favorite, because of the concept and work put into it. I really hope she can overcome the tremendous hurt she had to face so her talent can really come through as she is indeed incredible.

First off, thank you for your kindness towards my Venus video, I also have a very special place in my heart for it. That said, I do want to contend with the fact that my personality as a whole is self pitying or sardonic. My personality is real, it’s a composite of the joys I’ve experienced as well as the trauma I’ve had to endure. I’ve taken my time on drag duel to share my story, a story that’s shared by many people within and outside of our community and for that I will never be ashamed. This marginalization is something REAL that performers experience outside of the competition itself in their local scenes and day to day lives. I’ve spoken on it so heavily here because it’s something that’s rarely discussed in drag competitions. The dynamics of power and privilege in our community are understandably complex, and as someone who has built their drag around social activism and awareness, I want to use my story to explore those themes as best as I can with my limited life experience and knowledge. I’m sorry if I come off a bit whiny, I’ve gotten that a lot in my life, but I do try my best to show the breadth of the queer experience - be it joy, trauma, shade, euphoria, or anything else. I hope this gives a bit of perspective on why I talk about these things so often, and to show I’m not just my trauma or marginalization! Lots of love, and thanks for watching ❤️

Maybe she doesn’t know what a mircoagression is but like don’t use that word when it’s not giving. and people saying the Alt queens are being over looked by the fan base is weird to me some queens just have more followers that’s probably why they’re getting more love Christie’s drag isn’t even traditional drag Christie’s drag is like internet girlie fish vibes which all a queens look down upon let’s be real and since she has more followers it’s gonna look like she has more fans.

Tik Tok Internet girls are definitely overlooked in the real drag scene we saw it on the show a whole bunch of times aquaria is an example of them doing well on the show doesn’t mean that they don’t get hate still .
Even if it's looked down upon by other queens, the follower counts indicate that that type of drag is indeed popular with fans and Rosa was talking about fan reception

I understand the want and the human response to lash out at people you see on screen that you don’t vibe with personally. I understand wanting to have an opinion and put it out there. What I don’t understand is the need to tare each other down within our community! We’ve been very open with you all as an audience that these kinds of comments are hurtful, and I decided to open up even more in this episode in order to have a conversation on issues that I found were pertinent. I don’t know where you saw contradictory statements, and I further don’t know where those statements have anything to do with my laugh. I’d ask next time you decide to as hominem attack someone that you try to understand why you’re doing so and maybe stop yourself before getting there. I’ve done some sincere soul searching since this episode, and I know why I said what I said and stand by it (if anything, I am a bit sad I chose to approach some things in a more emotive way).
