WOWZER!!!! That has to be a fish that most of us might only see come along once in our angling adventures!! a MASSIVE well done Mark the sheer joy on your face and in your voice is there for all to see, brilliant simpley brilliant!!
True Simon it has been a very kind spot, but one that is not for the faint hearted that is for sure. There are many likely and not so likely areas, that all produce good fish on this little river, some of the very plain spots have thrown up very good fish too. I was just so overjoyed that the adrenaline was still overflowing once I had landed her. Thanks for those very kind words, coming from the pike hunter of the fens, that means a lot.
Cheers Paul, I was absolutely made up, walking in the clouds somewhere, it all felt so very surreal, very kind of you to take the time to watch the videos, without the viewers and being able to share my trips with yourself and other like minded fishing souls, it really would not be the same. Your comment regarding just being on the bank, that hits the nail on the head and is spot on, soaking up the atmosphere, and wildlife means more than anything, a fish once in a while is an added bonus.
Cheers Tom, I know how much you appreciate your fish and love your chub and perch too. Believe me after slipping the net under her and then taking a look, I sat down and started crying.
Thanks George, that is right we had a good many chats regarding perch didn't we! I still can't get my head round it, got to agree that really is one of those once in a lifetime type moments, one as an angler you never will forget either. Thanks again mate.
Thank you for making the effort to bring us the action from the bank Mark, congrats on the magnificent perch, that monster looked like it put up a scrap befitting every ounce of its 4 lb + bulk ,would of been pure magic and relief to see it finally in the landing net!
Thanks James, but the swim it was caught from is another matter, not for the feint hearted or a rod that is too long either and I was relieved to land her, palpably so. Thanks mate.
Thanks George, you and I had spoken a fair bit about this capture and I know from speaking to you after having slipped the net under her, it was wonderful to be able to share that moment with a fellow angler such as yourself, something not to be forgotten.
Thank you so much Michael and you are absolutely right, to see such a fish materialise from beneath the watery surface was really like seeing ficiton become reality, I won't ever ever forget it. Believe me I was in awe and still am as I look at the pictures of her mate. Cheers.
Carl it was one of those exceptional trips, where everything comes together and then some mate, I will never ever forget slipping her back into the river, maybe see her another season, that would be nice. Thanks mate.
I really look forward to my erdwin video fix.......allways great to see someone so genuinely happy in what they do. A big well done for that cracking perch...........now go get a bigger one !!!!
Brilliant mate, amazing fish!!!!!! That memory will stay with you for ever... fish of a life time!!! That chub would have made my season, let alone that perch! Well done mate.
Nick, that is a very kind thing to say and I always look forward to hearing from yourself, I was really bowled over by that wonderful Perch, not to mention the wonderful markings and top condition that she was in, as for catching a bigger one, I really think that might take some doing. Thanks again mate.
No let me thank you instead for those kind words, I much appreciate them and the time all of you take to post a comment, I love being able to share these fishing trips with you all and your comments help to also infuse me. Best of luck in your hunt for a Perch or two Zungaro and thanks again.
Hello there and thanks for taking the time to comment. Canals and commercial lakes produce some rather good specimens, so if you don't have a good perch river available to you then these can be a very good option, although you will usually find that river perch do tend to have more distinct and vivid colours. Bait wise, I ledger lob worms fished on a low resistance rig over maggot and chopped worm.If ledgering for them use a low resistance setup as big perch can be very wary.
The river is very much neglected, as you said it does seem as if they thrive on it, like yours it was polluted, many years ago and had no fish in it and its been polluted many other times recently in the past decade, yet the environment agency have been working on it, stocking masses of chub and huge trout, so props to them:) I really like the features and wildlife of that little brook, its interesting to watch! I may make some videos as I'd like to show people what's under their nose! Thank you
Hi Mark, I keep going back to watch this video as its fantastic 👍 like you my favourite fish to catch are Chub & Perch. What a amazing day you had all 3 fish were stunning! Really has inspired me to put in much more effort on my local waters in search of some big Perch. Loved the slow mo release shot of you returning the Perch too. Keep the videos coming mate, cheers
+Yorkshire River Rover Hello mate, glad you enjoyed it, certainly warmed up a cool March day I know that and I went home pretty spellbound and dazed with how well the trip went. I have to say for finding out and doing groundwork on our waterways the likes of google maps and bing maps, the latter being set to ordinance survey mode take some beating and there is always a few neglected places that can produce some real gems. Although that said, this particular swim I fished I had lost a large perch when I was 15 years old, can remember it like it was yesterday and the sight of seeing the hook pull too!
Absolutely cracking Perch. Fish my local canal mainly and Perch have become one of my favorites to catch on it. But never ever seen anything half of that size,. Well done.
Another excellent video Mark. I always think I'll just watch one 'Fishing for Memories' and end up binging on 3 or 4. I share your love of the wild and wooly waterways. Rivers, streams and canals were always my favourites as a kid mainly because our local gravel pits wouldn't allow juniors to fish without an adult due to risk of drowning which always sounded ridiculous because you could drown in the canal just as easily lol Anyway rivers became my thing and I can't think of anything more boring than dropping a line in an overstocked carp puddle. Rant over Amazing Perch Mark well pleased for you 😊
The places that get overlooked can thrive on neglect, same with a small brook that is local to me, it was polluted very badly a few years ago, but is gradually making a comeback. Thanks mate, yes being out with the wildlife is more than enough on its own, you should perhaps do a few videos too, I would love to see your river and yourself fishing.
what a fish indeed! couldnt have asked for more, pb perch and having it all on tape! certainly wont happy everyday mate cheers for the brilliant uplifting video
Absolute stunning fish, you always seem to catch big juicy lovely Perch as well as others such as those Chub. You obviously know your watercraft but i think big Perch like that are very rare on lakes it seems they're quite common on the rivers, but i dont know for sure really. I used to dislike Perch because of their prickly dorsal fins but i love them now, such beautiful fish with their stripes, red fins and the look of that dorsal fin is superb. I used to think they were ugly fish and didnt like catching them but now they're probably my second favourite after Crucian Carp. When you look at say a skimmer or a Roach they're kind of plain looking compared to a Perch, although they are still quite cute looking fish. Will be my first time coarse fishing in England for 6 years on this coming Tuesday. My first time Ledger fishing too, ever, i only ever used to Pole or waggler fish in the past. So excited cant wait to hopefully catch some fish with a nice day out in the sticks. Wonder what i'll catch? and sizes? great stuff. These videos just inspire me and get me more excited, thanks so much for these. Again, beautiful fish and such a glorious Perch! fantastic. I would have died and gone to heaven with that Perch and you looked like you were in heaven yourself!
Thank you cns, large perch can be found quite regularly on commercial lakes, in fact some commercials contain very large specimens. However that said, I generally find that perch from commercial lakes do not always share the vivid colours or markings of river perch. I know what you are saying about the spikey dorsal, I remember my first time being pricked by one when I was a child ouch! They are a very beautiful species and always make me think that they look rather proud with their erect dorsal. The very best of luck to you on your forthcoming fishing trip I hope you have an enjoyable days fishing, also thank you for the kind words regarding the videos, I do so enjoy making them.
I certainly am chap, that sounds a brilliant little place you have found! Should prove some very exciting and enjoyable fishing too, as you know I really love fishing for Chub. Thank you for the kind words, it would be nice to connect with a few nice fish this season, but just being out and fishing is bonus enough.
They love a variety of baits, prawns, of which inexpensive frozen bags can be purchased from Tesco, Asda etc. Red worm and lobworms, maggots and of course live and dead-baits such as minnows, bleak and gudgeon, perch are very fond of these fish. These baits can be presented by float or ledger, personally I prefer the latter. If you want to cover a lot of ground then lure fishing can be very rewarding too and allows an angler a great way to rove about and cover a lot of ground.
David, believe me that was without doubt what you would call a red letter session, I was actually crying after landing her as it happens, words can't put across how much it meant, I was spellbound, just holding her didn't seem real at all. Thanks a lot mate.
Cheers Fred, from one angler to another I appreciate that and you are having a really nice run of fish yourself mate, that big plated mirror that you had recently was stunning.
Thank you so much Kieron and I am sure you will beat that pb eventually, it actually took me quite a while to catch my first 1lb+ Perch, but the longer it takes the more you will appreciate and enjoy the journey. No I have never ever fished around Bristol mate.
That is an amazing perch, and that chub!! Fantastic fishing and I would be doing back flips (if I could which I can't) to catch fish even approaching those. Lovely video once again thanks Mark.
MARK JUST dropping you a line to say i hope all is well with you ,have. i been looking back through your videos and my goodness you have had some great fish and fishing ,,so thanks for the videos mark i wish you and yours well and if you do dust down your camera,s and do some more it will be great ,for now i wish you well and of course tight lines cheers,
Hey Stephen, I have had some issues with being threatened while fishing and then having issues with a fishing club who don't want to police their own river properly, which was why i stopped uploading for a while my friend. However there is a new video due to go live this afternoon. I hope you are also keeping well too and staying healthy mate.
Well done mark such an amazing memory for you, i know how much it means to you and how much you wanted a big perch, im really happy for you, congratulations mate on a once in a lifetime fish, this truely is a "Fishing for memories" session. And as usaul great video and great editing. George
Oh yes, the markings on them are absolutely fantastic. It really sets them apart from other common species of fish. Hoping to break the pound mark this year. Most of the Perch I catch barely break the 10oz mark. Tight lines and keep posting these great videos of your fishing trips. Nice to see a angler uploading videos using a rod and not a pole. Rod and Reel is only exciting way to catch fish in my opinion. Tight lines :D
Thanks Shaun,I am not surprised that they have become one of your favourite species to catch, with their blood red fins and wonderful stripe markings, they are a wonderful fish aren't they? Thanks again.
Greetings Dennis and thank you, the coat is a "SHIMANO 3/4 Olive Green Breathable Padded winter Jacket". It is made from fully breathable fabric, so if you sweat it can release it but at the same time it remains fully waterproof. I hope that is of some help to you.
I know it's an old vid, but excellent! You may not be the world's most super (fish on demand) angler I follow, but certainly one of the most likable!, What an absolute specimen!! Smashes my pb to bits. Your the sort of guy I'd love a day on the water with, so much enthusiasm and a pure passion for it! If your ever down in Sussex pm me, I've got some cracking little places!. Keep up the great work, your an inspiration 👍
Cheers Geoff and thank you so much for your very kind offer, Sussex Ouse sounds good or Rother/Uck. In regards to the fish on demand part, that is because I won't run off to what I call cherry picked runs waterways (upper Lea,Wye, Middle Severn) to name a few like some other channels do seemingly love to do, I prefer a challenge always. Admittedly I did fish the middle Severn on a family vacation. However what you see with my fishing is videos based on my choice which is fishing neglected areas of small rivers, or waterways that generally get overlooked, I base my fishing videos on that on a whole in hope that it will open up others eyes outside of the obvious stretches and venues.
@@francolinobasco thanks for the reply mark!, the Rother is great!, this time of year I start my pike campaign on the river Arun, some great pike fishing with the chance of throwing up an absolute beast! So if your ever up for it :-)
thanks chap, I can't get her tiger stripes out of my mind, or her blood red fins, regarding the wildlife, I totally agree with you, how can anyone go fishing and not be impressed by the wonderful theatre that nature provides us with. Thanks again.
WOW...... I've been waiting for this videomarky! And I have to say it was well worth the wait!! What an cracking trio of fish topped off with that absolute stunner of a perch! I love your heartfelt reaction I can tell fishing is really in your genes mate!! Congratulations on a fish of a lifetime mark you deserve it pal!!
Cheers mate and thank you, nice to know that another angler like yourself is finding the videos enjoyable! I will take a look at your channel of course my friend.
Of any resistance that they can feel and can sometimes shy away from a bait presented when ledgering if there is too much resistance when they pick up a bait. Daylight is another factor which plays a major part when after perch.I prefer cloudy days, but never discount the part of the day when the sun begins to fade away into late evening, these can be key feeding times, especially if it has been sunny and slow going, the same goes for early morning.
As for ideal features on rivers, areas with undercut banks, vegetation and tree coverage, weed rafts and dense cabbage patch all give optimal and likely skulking/ambush areas for these beautiful fish. Similar on canals, but also areas around boat yards/marinas and infrequently moved barges, to as simple as reed beds and brick work/walls running along the canal structure. When fishing for perch please do carry forceps, strike earlier rather than late,as this helps lower the chance of deep hooking
According to the anglers mail you live in Reading, and wanted to reccomend finch farm fishery , drift road , windsor.I fished there all day and had plenty of action. Franky
It is a lovely place to fish, but overlooked by many as they still think it is polluted, but the environment agency took time and now it is great and I'm glad people overlook it, keep it for me:p! I've already had a few good fish there and hope to this year,I look forward to watching your videos and reading your blog and I'm sure you'll get a few big ones! Like you said just being out with the wildlife is good enough, plenty of foxes and birds around:)
Cheers mate. I would say with a bit of luck, in hindsight it would have been nice to have had a lot shorter rod for that swim, something along the lines of an 8 foot feeder rod would have been a lot better.
Thanks mate, but I can't see that happening some how! But you never know what might happen, that's the thing with rivers, they can always throw up surprise or two.
They are without doubt an enigma Tom, as greedy on one day as they can be wary the next. Their silver scales like that of medieval chain mail, resplendent.
Ready for the 16th Mark? I can't wait myself, found a little tributary off the tees filled with confident 5lb chub, theres a path next to it and they aren't scared! Love your videos though, keep up the good work and I hope you get some big ones this year! Matthew
Some cracking fish you caught ! Could you tell me exactly what jacket you're wearing ? I see it's a Shimano but what series/model ? Regards from The Netherlands, Dennis
I can imagine... I'd be exactly the same, I really can't wait to get down there at the beginning of the season with you lets hope we can catch some more dreams!! Take care me old mukka il see you soon no doubt ;-)
WOWZER!!!! That has to be a fish that most of us might only see come along once in our angling adventures!! a MASSIVE well done Mark the sheer joy on your face and in your voice is there for all to see, brilliant simpley brilliant!!
Amazing perch, what a beauty. I also love the way you show the birds. That's why you basicly fish, to be 1 with the nature around you. Great vid.
True Simon it has been a very kind spot, but one that is not for the faint hearted that is for sure. Amazing fish. Perch are just so stunning, to catch one like that must have been a dream come true! Congrats!
Thanks!
Thank you very much Steve, it has to be one of my most memorable captures, I certainly have never forgotten that days fishing.
Nick, that is a very kind thing to say and I always look forward to hearing from yourself, I was really bowled over by that wonderful Perch, not to mention the wonderful markings and top condition that she was in, as for catching a bigger one, I really think that might take some doing. Thanks again mate.
Amen to that Mark, they certainly are without doubt the biggest fish of all.
Cheers Luke, it is very tight and not easy at all, a real edge of the seat fight when you connect with the fish too!
Thank you for your kind words Adam, I always thank the river when it gives a reward or when it is less eager to pass on a gem or two.
Superb - a fish of a lifetime pal - very well done and thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you Baroid and you're very welcome, Merry Christmas to you too.
Absolutely outstanding Perch mate fantastic to see!👍
Thank you much Andrew, it is a memory I won't forget.
No let me thank you instead for those kind words, I much appreciate them and the time all of you take to post a comment, I love being able to share these fishing trips with you all and your comments help to also infuse me. Best of luck in your hunt for a Perch or two Zungaro and thanks again.
Thanks Clark, you're right there and it's always nice to have something to be able to look back at.

I don't blame you!!!!
Great work,
Tom

Hello mate, glad you enjoyed it, certainly warmed up a cool March day I know that and I went home pretty spellbound and dazed with how well the trip went.
Exactly the same here Mark, now I certainly do know and that is very true regarding pictures of these wonderful fish.
Rant over Amazing Perch Mark well pleased for you 😊
Cheers Carl, thanks a lot mate, I hope you enjoy it.
I must have watched this 10 times now, cracking session Mark!
Thanks fella, that is very nice of you, greetings from across the pond.

Thank you Bruno, it is well and truly burnt into my memory, just like I suspect that wonderful 3lb Thames Roach is in yours.
Thanks Fred mate, glad you liked it.
You are not wrong there, it was a very memorable trip, cheers mate.

That is an amazing perch, and that chub!! Fantastic fishing and I would be doing back flips (if I could which I can't) to catch fish even approaching those. Lovely video once again thanks Mark.
Thanks John, I was in tears with the perch, because it came from a spot where I had hooked an lost a big fish when I was around fourteen years old.
Nice video and some nice fish!
Excellent video Mark and a few cracking fish especially the Perch. Well done. Hutch.
Cheers Hutch, it was nice to have such a trip and more so be able to share it across via youtube.

Top angling Mark! Made me laugh when you were almost crying down the phone to me when you caught these two!
Oh yes, the markings on them are absolutely fantastic. It really sets them apart from other common species of fish. Hoping to break the pound mark this year. Such a creature mate, and what a video! 🎣
Cheers Ryan, the image of this trip is well and truly etched in my mind.
What a stunning fin perfect perch. Amazing fish well done to you and thanks for inspiration to get out there and get one myself.
Congrats on your perch p.b. stunning fish as were the chub ,great video again mark tight lines and keep up the good work
Thanks Ian, this trip was full of memories to look back upon with a smile and a gladdened heart, I will never forget catching that perch.
That is a clonking Chub, well done on that front mate and thank you very much, it certainly was a nice way to end the last few days of the season.
Cracking perch, love that species! Great to see, thanks for the vid.
Greetings Dennis and thank you, the coat is a "SHIMANO 3/4 Olive Green Breathable Padded winter Jacket".

What a blog mate really enjoyed that wish it was a bit longer !!!
Your videos are top class, top angler. Good work.
Thanks Eric, still have thoughts of her as she swam off and yes I have just about got over the shakes mate!
Absolutely cracking perch, great end to your season. finished my season with a cracking chub of 6lb 8oz chub. Gratz mate
Franky
what a session really did enjoy it as usual and again well done
Thanks fella, she was in very good condition.
Cheers mate, fingers crossed for a few similar trips this season!
Thanks mate, that is really very nice of you to say so, hope we can get you a barbel sometime mate, look forward to it.
Cheers mate, it was one very enjoyable trip.
I know this is a year old or so video but it's brilliant!, How do you bully the fish Mark with such little leverage....that's a skill I tell ya!.
Cheers mate. I would say with a bit of luck, in hindsight it would have been nice to have had a lot shorter rod for that swim, something along the lines of an 8 foot feeder rod would have been a lot better.
Hope you released it.
9:20 :). It helps to actually watch the video rather than making badly thought out assumptions..
Amazing Fish! That perch was amazing
amazing perch mate well done !!
wow that is a monster perch. nice catch!
Awesome perch there!!!
Matthew
Ah yes, how could you forget that Oli, I was in pieces and had just finished breaking down before phoning you too. Cheers mate.

I'm still trying to beat 1lb perch! But I will get a good one soon I hope.
