This popular Ayrshire holiday resort is found on the coast and boasts a variety of things to see and do.
In the 1500s, King James V dipped into his own pocket to establish the salt panning industry in Saltcoats, from which the town takes its name.
The small harbour dates from the late 17th century with later alterations, and at low tide fossilised trees can be seen on the harbour floor. It was in Saltcoats in 1793 that Betsy Miller, the only woman ever to have become a registered ship's captain, was born.
Saltcoats today is much better known for its picturesque harbour and golden, sandy beaches set around Irvine Bay. Visitors interested in the history of the area will find a comprehensive overview at the North Ayrshire Museum which is housed in a former church.
Popular attractions in Saltcoats include the Apollo Cinema, Basebowl Ten Pin Bowling and the Saltcoats Town Trail where you can learn about the town’s fascinating heritage.
Saltcoats is also home to variety shops to browse and cafés, bars, restaurants to dine in.

I now live in Australia, 🇦🇺 but Saltcoats was our holiday destination for 2 weeks during every Glasgow Fair, when we went there on the wonderful steam trains! I've been in Oz since the '80s (I fled the Thatcherite dictatorship), but I still know every inch of Saltcoats. And every place on this video!

Great capture showing off a bit of the seaside lol. I do fear though that Ardrossan and Saltcoats do tend to suffer from lack of trade. Holiday makers tend to jump across to Arran and further down the coast. I do like an auld kirk and there was nice auld gravestones. Well played. Take care 👍😁👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

It isn't all that easy to jump across to Arran any more. The ferries get cancelled too frequently!
Hopefully Saltcoats and Ardrossan will at least get the benefit of this ferry catastrophe.

@BeverleyScott-xf5yq I think it's a bit of a disgrace how the ferries have been handled tbh. I really hope as you say that people will spend money in surrounding mainland areas but I fear that with its inconsistencies and lack of info at times people will stay away. I myself thought of heading there this year but until there is more of a guarantee of services I'm staying away..Its such a shame..if Saltcoats and Ardrossan put a marketing campaign together to shout about they have to offer and open shops longer or on Sundays etc then people would go. We can't even get a regular train at present with a reduction in train timetable. Frustrating times lol lol 👍😃🤦‍♂️
