That’s a hell of a first concert!
by the IKEA in S.Philly??
R.I.P. GURU
Back when Kanye was black black 😂
@@mefilmmaking na at the rose land in Brooklyn. It was common electric circus tour
This entire piece of content is eye-opening. Grateful i came across it!
“Win in silence but smile in public”…. I’ma keep that. I’ve heard it many times before but coming from you it resonates even deeper. I’m a former artist, writer and engineer and I’m currently leaning into entrepreneurship, building a transportation business right now and will get into other businesses. But “story telling” is one of my first loves so I intend to invest in independent film and music so this quote still resonates on so many levels.
This the truth my uncle warned me about signing contracts cause a label hit me last week, and he said if I sign it you going to needing a lawyer so I refused the deal.
Yessss! I'm a 68yr old grandmother who was introduced to Talib by my daughter. An authentic talent and a genuine soul. Btw Im also an astrologer this 'shift' in music, religion, politics, medicine... all areas of life is about to bust out. Believe it! People are re-membering and recovering their power, dignity and creativity corporations are about to fall. You Curtiss my man are the physically representation of this change, this shift. Subbed.
Stream but ALSO support your artists! THAT PART! As a listener that is trying to disconnect from the constant churn of social media and doom scrolling. I want you guys independent from streaming so I can just zone in with a CD. I'd love some kind of secured download too if it exists. I miss loading up my mp3 player and never having to worry about a commercial or text message or alert interrupting my vibe.
Well, you get that when you download to your phone and play with a music app. I mean, I pay for amazon unlimited and don't get interruptions, but when I want to support an artist, I'll just go buy music or something and still listen to it on Amazon 😅
@@Pure_KodiakWILD_Power I respect your opinion. I too am subscribed to multiple music platforms. Spotify being my defacto fave for it's easy interface and the fact that it has a stand alone desktop app that allows me to listen to my music and unshackle my hand from my phone. That said of the myriad of playlists and various artists that I enjoy I could only think of maybe 5 artists that I could successfully migrate to a listening device independent of an ipod or cell phone. I recently went back to CD's because it was easier than fooling with my phone while driving. Enjoy your music how you please though. I'm just the type to immerse myself in an album or song on repeat and I loath when I get snatched back to reality by instagram notifications or someone having the audacity to call me. XD
I try to buy CD's and merch at shows. I live in England so not too sure what other countries do nowadays. Got the ol' boombox out recently 😂as well.
Reflection Eternal is a classic!
Yo Curtiss! You be putting on for CA! Putting on for artists everywhere! We should chop it up I feel like there’s a lot of wisdom to glean. Not to mention the introspective raps 😮💨😮💨
Been saying this since 2017, It's not about what's being said, its about the caliber of the person saying it.
One of the GOATs
It's what we live to see happen Curtis, great video!
This conversation is impactful for me. It’s helping me shape my goals for the journey I have ahead 👍🏽
What he's saying you should do as an artist just makes me think of LaRussell. He's doing exactly that.
1:00 was just listening 2 a joint from Reflection Eternal this morning.
Shlt is *TIMELESS*
I always thought Kweli's "Eardrum" and Yasiin's/Mos Def's "The Ecstatic" albums were supremely slept on.
Eardrum was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They were super mid
He got one of the worst rap voices of all time
When the Independent artist connects with the fan, the Real 'Fans' WILL wait for the Art to drop, and seek out Merch, the Easter Eggs, etc. and wait & watch that Artist GO BIG.
I can appreciate the effort Kwali takes to keep the integrity of hip hop alive
Broken clock. This dude Talib pretty much ruined his legacy crashing out on Twitter and all over Social Media for no reason.
U soft
I'm glad you caught this! When I saw it, I thought about sharing this with you! 😂
Dont hesitate to tag me when you see something like this fam! Thank you.
I always buy the albums that I truly like, so the artist makes the $$.
I respect u and your content. I'm not trying to get in the music industry, but because of following your content it woke up some ideas and ways to implement those ideas. I thank u for your insight. Fr.
high-top Curt
As an older hip hop head Talib and the collective he hails from (the Native Tongue x Soulquarians x Justus League Family Tree) hold a very special place in my heart and music catalog. The Roots, Black Star, Badu, Common, Pharoahe Monch, Slum Village, Bilal, D'Angelo, Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Black Sheep, Hi Tek, Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild, Raphael Saadiq, Little Brother, Jean Grae, Bahamadia, etc. This group of artists has put out some of the best and most authentic hip hop and soul music of the last 4 decades. RIP Dilla. RIP Baatin. RIP Malik B. RIP Leonard Hubbard. RIP Phife Dogg. RIP Dave aka Plug Two. We've gotta appreciate the Legends of our culture.
My band The Liquid Crystal Project just finished up our 3rd show opening for him with his artist Solene. And we just played the City Winery in NYC show that he mentioned in that interview!! Salute!!
TK is still in my apple music playlist from 2002 🎶
The first black Starr album is one of my favorites
that's a classic and Train of Thought was fire too
Let's Win Curtiss!
Dope Take🎉❤🎉
Talib is a national treasure! Thx for covering
Thanks
Hopefully it's true that the change is coming
Talib Kweli / Styles P "The Seven" EP 🔥🔥🔥🔥
lol Curtiss King deserves the inflated head and can rock it proud. He's done more than his share for the community. Salute!!
Dope af ❤
I respect all artist before & now speaking about independence/owning their masters etc but it didn't become common knowledge in the people psyche until Joe Budden started saying it on his podcast when he 1st started 10 years ago. Man how far we came, gotta love it.
Lets keep Hip-Hop alive.
You right there is definitely more opportunity now for independent artist than there was before
Still spinnin get by in 2025, one of my fav tracks of talib kweli❤ Def agree with his position.. & your DIYER philosophy.. Sidenote Curtiss your personality is magnetic 😊
Thank you so much 🙏🏽🙌🏽
@@CurtissKingTV you're welcome
I would say use Streaming to see if the music that has been put out has enough quality to buy. Sometimes, people buy an album or song and the effort was subpar with certain artists.... but all and all, I agree. Support the musicians
We need more research concerning a topic called “parallelism.” It’s literally what the algorithm runs off of and Talib is talking nothing but facts. We can be fed the same story, let’s say in politics for instance, but based off your race, religion, search history, who you follow or DONT follow, you will get slight “variants” to cater towards your specific “bias”… Crazy times we live in
I was listening to one of his songs, "move something ". He is right.
Eardrum is a classic!
Wassup I got a verse for anything you want me on! I appreciate what you do, you’ve helped me a lot!
Good advice😊
0:42 im so disappointed Curtiss is not in the G-Unit tank 😭
Those photos have been burnt to a crisp 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Curtis King On That Kendrick glazing Supreme Team😂
Talib is one of the great poets of all time
He's like 15 years behind. Artist today are already independent. Streaming is free advertisemen to reach your artist. Artist NEVER made money off albums . Like Tyler. Sony has first right of refusal . Meaning they get 1st dibs to buy his content. He has total control. I'm a bit over 90s rappers bc they out the loop, have no youngins in their ranks and talk too much about how they were treated
5:19 That Part, WORD TO KA (REST IN POWER)✊🏿
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Talib Kweli is one of the BEST that ever did it
I requested the Push Thru remix with Talib and Kendrick... that's my favorite
Don't forget "Get By." Kweli was up for a minute.
4:29 📠📠📠im with
I’m hearing what he’s saying but taking it from the visual artist stance cuz I just can’t get down with the traditional art world gallery system after dealing with them
Damn that interviewer is pretty good compared to most media today
Damn, thank you Curtiss King
Out of Context... Talib looking like Oh Gosh.....or is it just me
Oh Curtiss King, look at you so ☺️ 1:10
5:17 Being hungry is mad "inconvenient" & not being able to travel for gigs is "inconvenient"...
Being an artist right now is "inconvenient"🚶🏾♂️ cause they really want the _BeeBops_ to cut out the *_human_* part and keep the creative part somehow without all the authenticity of *genuine real life experience* and the *Truth* which is a little thing they love to reshape like playdough😂😂
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
I def agree, I literally consider myself the best rapper ever but I got hundreds or maybe thousands of songs in haven’t released cause most of the songs I spend days, weeks, months even years working on barely even break 100 plays. Then I see ppl who aren’t even considered rappers or who sound horrific getting 1000x more plays and engagement than me. It gets discouraging asf. And ik it’s a networking thing, but everybody charges for promotion and don’t guarantee results so I’ve wasted Thousands trying to build a small community and continuously fail. Shit depressing and disheartening. The only thing that keeps me going is I love making music and love how my main sounds. And how ppl react when they finally catch the intricate bars I took forever to construct
talib is a dope MC
Stream + Vinyl
This is imported because even uk rappers fail to see the difference.
Support local veggies 👍🏾 but, support a local rapper? A bar
Ok Talib if they stay away from the music industry what have you set up for them as a replacement. Is he teaching classes on his vast experience??
Hiiiii
First
sup
Bro had me until the Trump comment . Now he gotta shut up lol
He goes in! Years ago we did make tapes from the radio especially Future Flavas and more. We would make our own and would even make our own from Napster but once we got a chance we still bought the merch once it was available in stores. Just cuz we genuinely supported the artists. I hope we go back to it
That’s my guy, bro
Hi Curtis I don't stream music or movies I have TH-cam music and I have cable TV so I your music somewhere else I can listen to it
That’s my guy, bro
