It’s great hearing your thoughts about Romania! I’m originally from Australia 🇦🇺 and I’m also trying to learn the language (my husband is also Romanian) and it is difficult but I feel it is so worth it to be able to communicate to those who don’t speak your native tongue.

Most Romanians do not look Turkish or Middle Eastern, but some do because of mixed heritage. Some Romanians are actually just Roma declaring themselves to be Romanians. Just like if you visit Turkey's western regions, you will meet many Turks looking European. But saying that we are Turks acting like Italians, is just wrong and disturbing.

I'm sorry to say but you sound kinda condescend here... saying Romania, which is a secular state, is "religious" while coming from Iran and Malaysia where the religion and the state are exactly the same is ironic, to say the least... And saying that LGBT community is discriminated against.... well at least they are not thrown for 20 years in prison or killed like in Iran and Malaysia... very strange indeed to bring these topics coming from a Muslim country. Also, Romania has an HDI (Human Development Index) of 821, while Malaysia has 803 and Iran 783, so saying the quality of life is worse in Romania is weird... No offence though :)

Hey sorry for late response! So you could be absolutely right to know more about your culture than I do. But you lived and grow up here. So you look at it differently. Also I am talking about My observation of my experiences. As I have lived in Iran and Malaysia. Have you ?
In Iran the Religion is so forced down to people that now majority of iranian are atheists. The gender segregation is so high that lgbtq is natural outcome!
In Malaysia. The government is Muslim but they are 3 nations Malays, Indians, and Chinese and they all have different religion! My first culture shock moving to Malaysia was to see so many transgender people. We even had gender studies in school.
Then I come to Romania and religion here is actually is people's faith and lifestyle. (For-example dont work on sunday) something that is rooted and keeps people together. So I am learning different things. And of course every religion comes with its own mindset and as a therapist I have notice that lgbt may not be as common here .
Which part of my video I said quality of life is worse here though!! I wouldn't believe that!

I don't think it is ok to judge romanians because they do not tolerate LGBT movement. Frist of all, this nation survived during the centuries around religious communities, with kind of values that does't match with LGBTQ practices. So, different values!
You will always see LGBTQ, rroma or black people complaining about their past or present, but romanians don't do this, while they could have so many reasons. I suggest you to read about life of romanians under the rule of Habsburgs in Transylvania, I also highly recommand you read about what happen with ensclaved romanians by boyars. Read about how many they were killed in rebellions in 1888 or 1907, may you think it was long time ago, but it is really not so long time ago.
So, after you make sure you understand the history of romanians you may have an opinion.
PS: Also, I do not agree you to judge older generations people, simply because you do not suffer in communism along with them, they can have any opinion about their country, about their goverment or anything else. Do not judge older people because it is possible their fathers or grandfaters died in the war for the country, it is possible their parents suffer because of communism, it is possible they had hard life while they do not deserved. But you, don't. Please, no offence!

      @mountainbliss3771 ปีที่แล้ว +3

No offence, we do not live in 1888 or 1907, that was a long time ago, and the past is not an excuse for the today's mentality. I am an older person, and I have lost my brother to the Revolution, he died for freedom of speech, freedom of expression, freedom to think out of the bubble, freedom... and I am really sad to learn we haven't advance.
You are talking about religious values, what values? Today the church turned into a cult that takes advantage of the willful ignorant. Yes, we had a hard time in communism, we were poor but we were kind to one another, we helped each other, now we live in freedom and we refuse to do or be better.
The "LGBTQ, Roma or black people are complaining about their past or present", because they were never treated right in the past, and by your message example they are still treated badly.

I am little too late to this party, but I am going to give you my two cents.
Romanians by nature are quick to jump to the wrong conclusion, especially when there is a thought lost in translation.
I am Romanian living in US, I get that impulse every time, when I hear criticesm about anything Romanian, but I don't react as quick.
I understand you much better since I had to go through my own transition to another culture and life style.
Many of Romanians have not yet transition to the rest of world's mentality, especially the older generation, but even if they did experience another culture, they chose to cherry pick.
I have many Romanian friends in US, but sometimes I am shocked of their mentality, their behavior, the stubbornness to accept anything from another culture. That's why it is important to teach people how not to be racist, bigot, discriminatory... it will take many more decades, but eventually will happen.
It has been only 32 years since the Revolution, before then, biracial marriages used to be a "shame" on the family, LGBTQ were not heard or known of, and the Roma comunity was highly discriminated.
I am thrilled that more Romanians are getting married with foreigners, or foreigners moving to Romania, because we need them to open up the minds of others. People need to be educated, to see and think outside the box. Your life experience from other parts of the world is a huge plus.
My only hope is that Romania one day, will again be known as a prominent part of Europe and the rest of the world.
I do appreciate your video, never feel bad for the way you see the Romanian world through your eyes and your heart.
Congratulation on your marriage, be happy in Romania... and keep up posting your opinions, constructive criticism is always welcome.

The great arab Empire under Mohamed and his predecessors conquered european lands and constantly rides of Middle Eastern ships on european lands seeking to enslave villages was a very common thing. Hello. It's interesting how you see Romanian society. You say we look like Turks and try to act like Italians. We have Latin origins, we were colonized by the Romans, we have a long historical conflict with the Turks. We have a strong French influence, which is now on the rise from a cultural point of view. You say that the body gesture is quite different from, for example, from you. It seems to me that you have the same attitude as us Romanians. Your effort to try to understand what is with this country in which you live is appreciated. As a curiosity, from 1922 to 1930, Queen Maria of Romania was of English origin, being the granddaughter of Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom. He was the greatest patriot of Romania. If you are interested in them, you will discover the most fascinating life story of a Queen. The conclusion is that we have influence from everywhere.

Buna!
