The particle effects and some of the animations in both Kingdom Hearts 1 and Kingdom Hearts 2 animate at 30 fps. Particular areas of issue with this are in the 1000 Heartless battle and the first Shadow Heartless battle in Kingdom Hearts 2. Just in this video you can see the particle effects animating at 30 fps at 1:56 through 2:29. When Sora hits the boss character the purple explosion is at 30 fps as well as the spark that comes off the keyblade. Also later in the game the Fat Bandit Heartless' fire breath attack is noticeably at 30 fps. This is as of the latest 1.2 patch.

The biggest issues are found in Kingdom Hearts 2, you should really test it out or at least get to the later parts such as the 1000 heartless fight which runs at 30fps. I'd recommend you guys watch Bizkit047's video highlighting issues and what has been fixed.
There are some early game examples. (Heartless in the tower animating at 30fps etc). The real physics issues are somewhat late game though which is a shame.
I just can't understand how people look down on the ps2 graphics. It was in 2.5times in it's frame rate otherwise it is still a piece of work. And in 60fps it is only even better in a fan perspective. You get to explore the games in a manner that is truly remastered. It opens a gateway of possibly many more remastered games. It gives it a good street cred
The remasters still got a bit of problems even after the patch, particularly KH1 and 2 KH1 has a bunch of missing sound effects during combat, for example. Same with KH2 but it also has a rare (yet still likey to occur) crash while saving, missing battle quotes from bosses, messed up physics in the way the enemies react to combos, broken reaction command for the final boss.
I could very well imagine, if they hadn't lost the source code. This would just be a simple upscaled port without effort and improvements at all. Now had to put more work into to, get it done. And that is a good thing.
What more could you ask for? I'd like 4X higher resolution textures and higher poly models, but it still is a fine remaster. Still, this game looks ideal for the Switch, 1080p 60 should not be difficult. If they hade done their "homework", back in the ps3 port, it would have ran @60fps and this version would be unnecessary.
Keep in mind that Walt Disney Company owns the Kingdom Hearts franchise. Disney company is master at negotiating and hiring the right people. Square Enix only developes the game. Wich means Square Enix probably hoped to only release KHIII, but Disney wants to make money so let's just remaster all the previous games. tbh I've never been a fan of KH and the remastered games looks boring as hell. The new one though, looks more up to date in gameplay mechanics and feature. So again. Disney Company decides in the end. If Square Enix fails with KHIII Disney will either stop the franchise or end the contract with Square Enix and find another studio to develope it further.
"It doesn't fix hardly any of the issues from the PS3 remaster" It fixes almost all of them, and as DF pointed out, almost all 60fps related issues are fixed. Only in KH2 there's one or two minor ones now (save crashing isn't caused by 60fps so that's irrelevant at this time) and in KH1 there's Sephiroth's meteors. And "major graphical improvements" is no lie. "Fish face" is an engine limitation. They would have to rebuild every game that has them from the ground up to remove them, in addition to porting assets over to the new engine and making sure it all works, and then adding new animations to the faces. And they totally remade textures even for the PS3 version of 1.5 and 2.5. The Dive to the Heart image when you play as Ventus and fight Vanitas in Birth by Sleep has a 4096x4096 image while the original PSP version was around 448x448, if I remember correctly. Aboriginal TruthTeller, you're not exactly being truthful here, as your name so implies. You're being unreasonable and lying.

I think the problem is that it appears that PS2 games are the only things the PS4 Pro can handle at 4K 60fps. Most PC gamers are also just... used to these games running at native resolution, whatever that resolution may be. Like sometimes you have UI issues in games like Kotor, but old games generally just support 4K 60 fps because nothing stops them, so people don't find this noteworthy.
All of the issues you've pointed out, and the following, only happen in Kingdom Hearts II. There currently is still a bit of a memory leak bug, where if you play for a long time without saving, and then try to save, the game will crash. There are also glitches (again, just KH2) from the PS3 version that were not fixed here. Particularly towards the final bosses of the game.

Small correction, Digital Foundry guys: Re:Chain of Memories is the PS2 remake of the GameBoy Advanced game, not DS game! The DS games are the ones that are just cutscenes without gameplay.
Just finished playing through 1 and 2. I did not notice any issues as compared to PS2 and PS3. In fact, the improvements to frame rate, loading times and the fixed drive lag make this the ultimate collection. Hopefully, the FF12 remaster will be of similar quality.
I have literally tried everything Internet suggests. Restarting the console, re-downloading the game few times, re-initialising the console. The game always crashes. A lot of people suggest hardware error, but I have 20 other games and they run just fine, so I'm not so sure about the console being faulty... I don't really know.
Would recommend this bundle to anyone who has yet to play these masterpieces. This is the definitive way to play every main Kingdom Hearts game since no other version of the game is in 60 FPS. If I could go back in time and stop myself from playing the HD collections on PS3, I would so I could experience them for the first time again at 60 FPS.
some examples of the 60fps issues that still exist are some mini-games timing is completely broken in kingdom hearts 1(hundred acre woods) and one of the secret boss attacks in kingdom hearts 1 moves at double speed(seporith) . beyond that other issues with the port is kingdom hearts 2 has a very little chance crashing while saving(you probably won,t run into it till at least 50 hour but it is important to mention) and lastly in kingdom hearts 1 and kingdom hearts 2 a LOT of battle quotes do not play when you are fighting. and a big issue that has not been fixed from the ps3 version is you can dodge roll out of bounds and be moving during cut-scenes(saw a video of the ladder on Facebook yesterday) this is because now unlike the ps2 version you can dodge and click triangle letting you do a dodge roll and special action at the same time letting you go through some walls and ignore objects. lastly another issue still from the ps3 version is there are 2 buttons mapped to triangle in kingdom hearts 1. this causes major problems with a secret enemy called pink araugious(probably spelled that wrong) to beat it you now have to use a exploit to get your party away from the enemy so they will not attack it.
Couple of problems i have with this version is no Ambient Occlusion & the same low resolution shadows as PS3, also there is some bugs in 60fps, making some fights too hard.
im playing the game and its just amazing, a very good 4k title, even that is a old one, but kingdom hearts 1 and 2 are amazing to play in that resolution. thanks for the vid DF
I appreciate what you guys do but if you could also break down the base ps4 version as well that would be nice. It's not unfair to say that the number of people with base ps4's vastly dwarfs the number of ps4 pro owners and your audience would most likely find that info more insightful for the experience they are going to see. From what I can see the base ps4 is 1080p at 60 but I'd love a traditional fps comparison video on this one from you guys.

john ben just saying as most developers are fuckers that they will probably focus more on PlayStation with the game because of the series exclusivity then port it over to Xbox, so Xbox will only have a port of the game. Been done in the past.
@@jollama this is old comment. I bought year ago Story so far collection I think( 6 games and cut scenes (movie) from 3 games only KH3 isn't there). But I haven't start playing yet.

@@djcrimsonsunbird3607 thanks for the reply even though it was a ilder comment i did. I actually did buy the entire series for Xbox as well as PC and primarely play it on my PC. Sadly its a epic store exclusive due to Kingdom Hearts 3 being developed on Unreal Engine with assistance from Epuc.
This combines the original two games with all of the side games with updated graphics? Or does each section have it's own graphics?
Small correction, Digital Foundry guys: Re:Chain of Memories is the PS2 remake of the GameBoy Advanced game, not DS game! The DS games are the ones that are just cutscenes without gameplay.
Just finished playing through 1 and 2. I did not notice any issues as compared to PS2 and PS3. In fact, the improvements to frame rate, loading times and the fixed drive lag make this the ultimate collection.
Hopefully, the FF12 remaster will be of similar quality.
Only On PlayStation
Not anymore.
Is that one also completely unplayable due to a myriad of crashes on the Pro like Rise of the Tomb Raider?
I have literally tried everything Internet suggests. Restarting the console, re-downloading the game few times, re-initialising the console. The game always crashes. A lot of people suggest hardware error, but I have 20 other games and they run just fine, so I'm not so sure about the console being faulty...
I don't really know.
I also tried boost mode on/off, but to no avail. It's a digital download, I don't have the game physically.
I'll have a look at the link, thank you very much. I've contacted Square/PlayStation and due to Easter, haven't gotten a response yet.
Cheers!
4k 60pfs Will have 4.2.2 colour compression due to HDMI limitations?
I guess it's time to play Kingdom Hearts for the first time.
Why is Guard Armor a different color pallet?
Would recommend this bundle to anyone who has yet to play these masterpieces. This is the definitive way to play every main Kingdom Hearts game since no other version of the game is in 60 FPS. If I could go back in time and stop myself from playing the HD collections on PS3, I would so I could experience them for the first time again at 60 FPS.

That "Hello there" reminded me of iDubbbz saying "Hey, that's pretty good!"
cringe
Is this the complete collection?...wanted to try out this series but never knew where to start
At 1:55, So you might say the game was RE: Coded?
Do you all have your PS4 pro in boost mode all the time?
I get to finally play this classic series!
Re running these on ps5!
some examples of the 60fps issues that still exist are some mini-games timing is completely broken in kingdom hearts 1(hundred acre woods) and one of the secret boss attacks in kingdom hearts 1 moves at double speed(seporith) . beyond that other issues with the port is kingdom hearts 2 has a very little chance crashing while saving(you probably won,t run into it till at least 50 hour but it is important to mention) and lastly in kingdom hearts 1 and kingdom hearts 2 a LOT of battle quotes do not play when you are fighting. and a big issue that has not been fixed from the ps3 version is you can dodge roll out of bounds and be moving during cut-scenes(saw a video of the ladder on Facebook yesterday) this is because now unlike the ps2 version you can dodge and click triangle letting you do a dodge roll and special action at the same time letting you go through some walls and ignore objects. lastly another issue still from the ps3 version is there are 2 buttons mapped to triangle in kingdom hearts 1. this causes major problems with a secret enemy called pink araugious(probably spelled that wrong) to beat it you now have to use a exploit to get your party away from the enemy so they will not attack it.
And this version is still better than the 30fps cutscene, stuttery, no UW support mess of a PC port
looks so damn clean & crisp even on my 1080p monitor.
Time to upgrade
Thumbs up if u watch these primarily to satisfy the need to hear an enunciated U.K. letter "Haytch". Love that Haytch D resolution!
Couple of problems i have with this version is no Ambient Occlusion & the same low resolution shadows as PS3, also there is some bugs in 60fps, making some fights too hard.
Could you guys do a comparison between this and emulated versions @ 4k.
Zealox Gaming this is better. the emulator still have low resolution texture and 30fps
maroom1 Yes, but it's still up their alley to do a comparison and analysis.
im playing the game and its just amazing, a very good 4k title, even that is a old one, but kingdom hearts 1 and 2 are amazing to play in that resolution. thanks for the vid DF
Definitely 2
Kingdom hearts 2 looks freaking amazing 👌🏿
I appreciate what you guys do but if you could also break down the base ps4 version as well that would be nice. It's not unfair to say that the number of people with base ps4's vastly dwarfs the number of ps4 pro owners and your audience would most likely find that info more insightful for the experience they are going to see.
From what I can see the base ps4 is 1080p at 60 but I'd love a traditional fps comparison video on this one from you guys.
0:07 So much to do...
So much to see. So what's wrong with taking the back streets? You'll never know if you don't go. You'll never shine if you don't glow.
Is this version the best for someone who has never played KH, but would love a starting point?
Woodrow Cooper yes! Includes all of the games
8:46 Re:Chain of Memories was a PS2 remake of a Gameboy Advance game
Isn't this the one which has the bugs for that undodgeable attacks due to the increase in framerate to 60fps?
can square enix fix the save crashing on KH2 first?
the game looks great even today because Disney's art design is timeless
Need to get this
For the regular PS4, will this run at 1080p 60fps?
losangeleskingsfan15 yes
How are the 5 Kingdom Hearts games?
It came out only 6 months after FFX back in 2002 in Europe, not 1 or 2 years.
really wish we got a 120fps ps5 port,,,,
Where is the frame-time graph?
8:47 KINGDOM HEARTS Re:Chain of Memories, that card game is a PS2 not a DS
Its absolutely insane that a the ps4 pro can run a ps2 game at 4k 60fps. Its unbelievable, i think my smartphone can do that to that's insane.
Naisuuuu. I'm buying this ASAP. Playing one of the greatest Series in 4k 60fps. Although It's nothing impressive since it's a Ps2 game I'm still happy I got a Pro beside my 1080ti.
God DAYUMN it looks BEAUTIFUL! It looks like if these games were released today! If Kingdom Hearts 3 looked like this, I would have been totally okay with that. I can't wait to replay these games in smooth 60 fps. They also fixed the trophies a bit too.
Lol no, looks like a PS2 remaster
Just bought this for Xbox One X! What a time to be alive!
KH1 and 2 were so ahead of their time.
You guys didn't compare it to the Ps3 version, is it just the same port?
Now do this collection on ps5!!
It's not any different on PS5
hope they give more ps2 games this treatment
Anyone else think it's odd no Ryzen 5 videos yet?
Can't wait to play kingdom hearts 3 in 4k60 🙌🏼
KingLos u won't -- at least not in 10-15 years. Ps3 emulator is still unplayable. PS4 one will release when we be like 60 years old
on ps5 or ps4 pc simulator ;)
on scorpio...
john ben just saying as most developers are fuckers that they will probably focus more on PlayStation with the game because of the series exclusivity then port it over to Xbox, so Xbox will only have a port of the game. Been done in the past.
+Aw How cute hopefully not but you have a good point, I guess we'll have to wait an see :/
Re:CoM is a ps2 port...
Never play kh before, but now when is whole collection on one disc I must try
See, there’s something called the “All in One Package” with 7 games and 3 movies on 3 discs
@@jollama this is old comment. I bought year ago Story so far collection I think( 6 games and cut scenes (movie) from 3 games only KH3 isn't there). But I haven't start playing yet.
Is there a 30fps option?
The COM jump in quality between game and cutscenes was pretty jarring, but its quite a short game, and BBS kind of hurts my eyes a little, I dont know if its because it seems quite zoomed in, or the camera moves way too fast, but I can just tell its meant for a smaller screen. Apart from those issues the collection is fantastic, and for sure the definitive way to experience these games... Apart from 358/2 days, but that game was quite repetitive and grindy anyway
I watched the whole video where's the Kingdom Hearts 2 HD?
Frame Rate video also please
