Olympic rowing champion Matthew Pinsent knows that his parents' families were greatly affected by WWI; two of his grandfather's brothers were killed, as well as his grandmother's only brother. In China, he discovers his maternal great-grandfather's connection with a trading company. Back in the UK, he finds a link to influential aristocrats, and is able to trace his maternal line back to some of the biggest characters in British history.

Lord William Howard was my 15th Great Grandfather, descending from Mary. Discovered this today (Ancestry). I've always been interested in Royal History and now it makes perfect sense because it's part of my family history. What some would call an 'Ancestral Nod'.

Katherine Howard was my many times Great Aunt as was Anne Boleyn. History is so fascinating!

How can Catherine Howard be anyone’s ancestor? She never had any children. Henry VIII had her executed when she was still a teenager
He probably is related to a sibling of her. I am a descendent of one of Lady Jane Gray’s siblings

@@terrybaker8156 Exactly. The title is wrong. Catherine was the niece of one of his ancestors.
He is a collateral descedant, not a direct descendant.
