Average Joe fix for Bowflex® Selecttech® 552/1090 Dumbbells. Ready for Primetime!

- Here it is guys.... the final production-ready 552 Series 1 fix. The files are in the manufacturers' hands. Now onward to finishing the 552 Series 2 and 1090.
My plan is to set up for pre-ordering by Monday, June 1st. I'll begin with 552 Series 1 pre-ordering. Then the 552 Series 2 and 1090 pre-ordering as quickly as possible afterward. I'd like to make sure enough of you are actually going to follow through with purchasing the fix. This stage requires tens of thousands of dollars of upfront investment on my part to get a spot in the manufacturers' queues.
It looks like I may do two production runs in parallel: one in the U.S. and one in China. About 1/3rd of you on the recent survey indicated that you'd be willing to pay the higher costs necessary for faster turnaround and Stateside manufacturing. I know the locally owned machine shop will certainly appreciate the support. I'd like to make sure at least 10 of you are prepared to step up and pay for the Stateside option before I pull the trigger with the local shop...I don't want to waste their time otherwise. If you'd like to save some cash and don't mind waiting longer...I recommend jumping in line for the shipment when it arrives from China. The quality will be the same...the only difference for these first batches will be the turnaround time.
Now, if you're seeing this video for the first time and it's already mid-Summer 2020, I should have these in stock by then. So just shoot an email to SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com and let me know what you need. I'm also hoping to establish at least two partners, one in Europe and another in Asia to handle regional inventory and delivery. It'll help cut down on shipment times, your shipping costs and customs costs. I don't have that luxury right now with the first batches.
One more thing....this project inspired me to design a completely new set of adjustable dumbbells to compete with the ones currently on the market. No easy task, but I'm up for the challenge. I believe I can create a pair that is easy-to-use, safe-to-use and tough-as-nails. I hope you'll remain subscribed to the channel to find out if I pull it off. Fair warning...this isn't some weekend project. I expect it to take some time. If I succeed, any customers who purchased my fix will have first dibs and a discount when they're finally launched.
Any questions....shoot me an email. And thank you all again for your continued support. During these crazy times every little bit helps. I hope you, your friends and family are safe and healthy wherever you are in the world.
Cheers,
Average Joe

[Update: 18 June 2020] Below is the current status in a nutshell for those of you not already on my email notification list. If you'd like to get on the list and receive details about pre-ordering your Fix Kit, shoot me an email at SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com and it'll auto-reply with the most recent information including details about preordering. So, here's where we stand:
552 Series 1 and Series 2 designs are finished. Prototypes tested and approved. Manufacturer reviews complete. Now sitting in the queue waiting for our turn to go into production. Pre-ordering is underway.
1090 design is finished. Prototypes tested and approved. Manufacturer reviews complete. Pre-ordering to begin this coming weekend.
If I can find time this weekend I'll post a video update with the very first finished pre-production discs fresh from the local shop. They'll be exactly the same as what you'll receive when you buy a set. Early adopters ordering U.S. made sets...we're ahead of schedule. Looks like production may very well begin before the end of the month. Stay tuned!
@@ColinResponse Hey hey Colin, I just saw your email and sent the info to you. The auto-reply has been a little wonky lately. Any questions just shoot me a reply. Thanks man!
Excellent product , bought it from the website. Perfect guidance to installation video. Strongly recommended product. Works perfect. Have my old plastic parts at the side after couple were broken!!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience. I really appreciate it.
If you watched this video and still couldn’t do it…you are hopeless my friend. This tutorial was so good that a 3 year old can get it done 💪🏼💯
Just found your website, super excited, with all your upgrades, these weights are def legacy tier equipment!!!!
[Update: 5 June 2020] Quick update folks. First, to the couple hundred people who have written to me these past few days, I'll take an hour or two this weekend to hopefully make it through all of your emails and reply if any of you have questions that were not answered the in the email auto-reply. The sheer volume of emails blows my mind. Shout out to folks from Kuwait, Israel, Hawaii, and multiple Canadian provinces...the love just keeps pouring in. You guys rock!
After some back and forth with the manufacturers yesterday, I made a couple small but important 11th hour design revisions tonight. Basically, I got rid of the alignment pin and replaced it with heavy duty built-in slots (thicker and larger than OEM). The pin worked fine, but I would prefer that you guys not have to worry about fiddling around with 4 pins. I want your installations to be smooth like butter. Part pricing will likely go up a little for me due to the extra time on the mill, but I'll eat the added cost since I already published the 552 prices.
I'm hoping the local shop can whip me up one last set of prototypes later today (Friday). If the new slots perform well, both manufacturers will schedule us into their queues for the 552 S1. The shop is also going to get started on prototypes of Rev 2 of my 552 Series 2 and 1090 designs hot-off-the-press....hopefully they'll do that by next Tues/Wed so I can test for a couple days before moving 552 S2 and 1090 into production. Those may actually get into the production queue a couple days early....we shall see.
Later this coming weekend I'm hoping to begin taking 552 Series 1 pre-orders. Those of you who signed up at SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com will be on the list to be notified when that happens. Still shooting to follow this up with pre-orders for 552 Series 2 and 1090 the following weekend. Biggest unknown at this point is the 1090 fix pricing. As soon as I nail it down, you'll know about it.
Last, but definitely not least, my dad has been putting on enough weight that the doctors may keep his late June surgery to remove remnants of his cancer. We're hopeful it won't spread before then, and grateful this sort of surgery is even possible. Fingers crossed.
Sending out some love to you and your families. I hope you all have a great weekend.
Cheers,
Average Joe
HOW CAN I BUY 2 SETS OF DISK FROM YOU PLEASE CALL ME 562 656 8262 MY NAME IS MARIO.THANK YOU .
Thanks for these videos. You’ve done a tremendous job. I have a quick question. I have 552 Series 2 and the dumbbell tab piece broke. It’s red on the series 2 and grey on yours. It’s the tab piece that says Bowflex on it. I would need to replace that before buying your discs when they’re ready for series 2. Bowflex told me that I would need to buy the whole handle but I see just that piece on sale on eBay. Since you took these things apart, I figure you would know if I can just buy that piece or if I need to buy the whole handle. Thanks in advance.
@@nickygee010 Hi Nicholas, thanks for the kind words. Short answer is that the red part (grey on Series 1) keeps the weight plates from rotating freely in the handle while you're using the weights. Meaning it's a necessary part of the assembly. Don't waste your money on an entire handle. You can find that part on eBay occasionally. But they've become increasingly difficult to find in the U.S. Here's a link:
www.ebay.com/itm/Bowflex-552-Series-2-Replacement-Dumbbell-Tab-Part/253400093155
I am seriously considering stocking some of the harder-to-find parts that sometimes break on the 552/1090. I'll revisit the idea once I've delivered in the first few hundred sets of fixes. For now, keeping an eye on eBay is your best option.
Thanks Joe. I did order the part from eBay. What kind of screw heads are they? Is it a torx head?
One man. That's what it took. One man to turn the fraudulent and dangerous Bowflex "design" into the best and safest design ever! You've done God's work, my friend! Screw these big companies and their much-touted "R & D" multi-year prices. One man has put them all to shame.
I would want an adjustable dumbbell set made by THIS guy.
Nah man, I'm just a guy who got tired of risking a plate to my face or foot every time I picked up my dumbbells, and nobody had created a fix for it. I didn't want to be the guy in the ER telling the doc that I should have known better, and that I never thought it would happen to me. Like my Dad used to say...don't be the "coulda, shoulda, woulda" guy. Still, thanks for the comment.
😯👍👏 That is Fantastic work. Hi just ordered one for my son's birthday.Once I get it I guess I will order also from you . Keep up the great work.
[Update: 9 June 2020] Hey guys, the 552 Series 1 preordering email was sent out Monday evening. If you're already on the mailing list, you should have received it. If you're a new subscriber, shoot me an email at SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com and it'll auto-reply with the latest information including details about preordering. I'm still slowly working my way through emails/comments as time permits. And this week the goal is to wrap up Series 2 and 1090 prototyping so we can move on to preordering and manufacturing those too. So far so good. It'll be a relief once everything is in the production queue. I'll keep you all up-to-date through my video comment replies and by way of email. Thank you all and I hope you have a great night/day.
Looking great! I will definitely be putting down a full deposit for my 1090s. Many thanks man!
Thanks Viktor, I appreciate the kind words and support. I remember seeing your emails. I'll reach out to you by email shortly.
bowflex should be buying your design out for a million or so... Great job.
Wishful thinking Vin, but thanks man. Stay safe and have a great 2021!
Awesome work! I’m amazed at what you’ve created. I filled out the survey and ready to place my order. Great job! And I hope your father is doing well.
Thanks Grant. I appreciate the kind words. My dad is doing well under the circumstances. Though they delayed his surgery until he puts on some weight. He lost quite a bit during radiation/chemo. I'll continue to keep you all up-to-date as far as taking pre-orders, going into production ,etc. Thank you for your continued support.
@@AverageJoeInnovationsLLC Good to hear - best wishes to him with his surgery.
You’re Awesome, for creating this fix. I’d rather fix them, than to have to buy a new set. I’m definitely gonna buy a set for each of my dumbbells.
Hey Tony! Fantastic! Sorry about the late reply. I using a little of this weekend to get caught up with the backlog of email inquiries. Thank you for your support!
A tip some of you may find helpful: You can use some tape to hold together the inner black plates and silver discs, so you don't have to worry about the ball bearings and springs popping out during disassembly.
Great idea Jeff....also, a dab of grease on the ball bearings helps keep them from rolling out of the springs.
Very nice work, looks nice too!!!
Awesome....glad you like it David. Happy New Year man!
Truly amazing job and great videos as well, congratulations!!!
Thank you Adam for your support. Folks like all of you inspired me to take my DIY fix and turn it into something that'll help others besides just myself.
Hi guys! if you don't care about the intro, skip to the installation at 3:37 or the demonstration at 17:40. And if anything was unclear in the video....submit a question below and I will answer it as soon as I am able....for now I need to get back to revising the 552 S2 and 1090 models.
IM IN NEED OF 8 DISCS READY TO BUY ASAP I HAVE THE EXACT ONES ON YOUR DEMO VIDEO WITH THE GREY BAR AWESOME WORK BRO 👏.
thank you thank you....I always appreciate the support!
Hi Mario, did you ever send an email to SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com for the pricing and pre-ordering info? Sorry, I don't recall seeing your name, but then I receive a couple hundred inquiries per day so please forgive me if you did email me.
Great video and great product! Thanks, Joe...
Awesome, thanks Sean. Couldn't do it without the support of folks like you. Rock on, man.
[Update: 29 May 2020]. Hey guys, gals...folks all around the world from California to Singapore, from Canada to Mexico to Abu Dhabi and Germany. I've received hundreds upon hundreds of thank you notes, well wishes for my Dad as he battles with cancer and chemo, and product inquiries from people from dozens of countries around the world. And they keep pouring in. I'm blown away. I really had no idea about the scale of the problem way back in early 2019 when I created the first fix for my own dumbbells and posted a video on YT in September. You guys rock.
I wanted to let you know that my focus at the moment has been two-fold. First, to get the first batch of 552 Series 1 discs into production asap both in China and, given enough customers willing to pay the premium, in the U.S. as well. And second, to crank out the changes needed to the 552 Series 2 and 1090 designs so they can go into production too asap. I'm working as quickly as I can in between my two jobs to make that happen. Right now it's just me, no team, so I'm glad you've all been so patient and understanding about it. My goal is to get this fix right the first time, and deliver you all quality parts that'll you'll never have to think about again.
If you've written to me by email at SelectTech.Fix@Gmail.com then you've received the latest updates. I try to answer each of your emails personally too as time permits, but please bear with me as that takes time out of doing what you need me to do most....to focus on getting this fix into your hands so you can use it. I will strive to reply to all of you, especially after the parts are off in production.
I've met, worked with and spoken with people from around the world, but you're all quite possibly one of the most supportive, kindest groups of people I've ever had the pleasure to know. Reading your emails is one of the highlights of each week. It's my hope that you'll be 100% satisfied with the results despite the wait. And ultimately, if I can save even one face or one foot from involuntarily kissing a weight, I'll feel like I've accomplished what I set out to do.
Thank you all, and stay tuned as we near the end goal.
Cheers,
Average Joe
Excellent joe waiting for your 1090 repair kit so I can get back in the flow of working out safely this time.
I hear you Michael. Thank you for your support. Hope to get you back to using your 1090s soon. Stay tuned for updates on pre-ordering and production. I've been busy updating the 1090 and 552S2 models with the new design tweaks. Hope to have that done by the end of the weekend. Then I need to verify the tweaks with a fresh set of machined prototypes specific to those models.
I've had my SelectTech dumbbells for over 10yrs now. Hopefully I won't have to replace the parts, but glad to know where to go if I need help.
Hiay GD, awesome...may you never find yourself in need of a repair! Some folks go 10-15+ years without a single incident. Others experience issues after as few as a couple weeks. Crazy inconsistency. I should mention for the sake of others reading the comments that abuse is not the only reason why adjustable dumbbells fail. I know of many instances, including my own experience with both my 552s and 1090s, where even well-maintained adjustable dumbbells unexpectedly fail. I would have preferred that the manufacturers spec'd better components and charged a higher price from the outset. Going cheap on fitness equipment that has the potential to cause serious injury isn't a wise idea.
I will put down deposit for my 1090s! Keep it up ma man.
Thanks Arthur...I appreciate the show of support and I apologize for the wicked late reply. Are you on my email notification list? I provide weekly updates to the email subscribers. Here on YT I am only able to sit down and reply to questions a couple times per month. If you're already signed up you know that. If you aren't send an email to SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com for complete info. And thanks again for patiently awaiting a reply!
[Update: 2 June 2020] Good afternoon all,
Prototyping the Series 2 and the 1090 has taken longer than expected this past week. I had hoped to complete both CAD updates by yesterday, but I missed that deadline. Today I had a conversation with the local shop to see if they can expedite machining my prototypes later this week so that I stay on schedule. Fortunately, it seems it will not be a problem...so what I lost on design time I hope to make up with prototyping and testing. If we're lucky and there are no further changes, they'll be off to the manufacturers for cost estimates and pre-production planning by early next week. I'll continue to work hard to make that happen.
As for the 552 Series 1, I've been so busy with getting the S2 and 1090 CAD completed that I didn't have time to set up pre-ordering as quickly as I had hoped. I was shooting aggressively for June 1st and missed the mark. I'll get to that later this week once the other two CADs are off to be machined into prototypes. None of this holds up 552 Series 1 manufacturing, just the pre-ordering date is affected.
Toward the end of this week the 552 Series 1 will go into the production queue in China, and then early next week in the U.S. as well. Hopefully they can both give us some timeframes for when we'll actually see the first batches...meaning in my hands and not just on the way to me. Once they're here I'll ship them out in batches to those of you who own 552 Series 1...based on your pre-order number.
Toward the end of the week I'll update you with the latest. I try my best not to let more than a few days go by without an update....none of us like to be left in the dark. Thank you all, and I hope you all have a great week!
Cheers,
Average Joe

hey hey Kevin. Awesome, I think I may very well hit the minimum I'll need to kick off a production run at the local shop in early June...they're willing to help but there's an investment on their part to make the jigs, etc for larger scale production. Stay tuned man....I'll hook you up as quickly as I can without compromising the quality.
Average Joe awesome. Great to hear how much interest you have received. Have you actually spoken to anybody from Bowflex? Interesting to their take...
Joe,
Congratulations!! Nice work. How do I order for my series 1 552?
Hiya Virgil....I believe you have emailed me already. Just replying here to thank you for your support.
How do I get these? I just ordered a pair of 552s.
Is this still available ? I just ordered a pair and love this idea
Hi Matthew, yes it sure is. In fact, I just took delivery of a few pallets of the 3rd Gen version of my discs. More info about my 3rd Gen Disc Fix Kit can be found here: th-cam.com/video/lnxgMVV8edE/w-d-xo.html and here: www.averagejoeinnovations.com
@@AverageJoeInnovationsLLC sweet. What are the prices ?
Hey Joe how do I get a set of the spacers for the 552 bowflex dumbbells. And what would the cost be. Wow I’m very impressed on the fix that you did on those spacers.👍🏽
Heya Jesse, hopefully you already received my email reply. And thanks for your kind words man, I appreciate them!
For anyone stumbling upon this while making a purchase decision, as an extra data point I'd like to add that I received my set of 1090i a few days ago and they have all metal discs. I don't know if the "i" is relevant or if they've finally fixed this design flaw in recent production runs, but I thought it was worth mentioning. The full name, as written in the manual is: Bowflex SelectTech BD1090i.
Hey there Mascot. 1090i isn't a new designation. I believe, though I am not 100% certain, that the name coincided with the changeover to riveted metal tabs on the weight plates. Basically a "Series 2" without ever actually calling it a Series 2 officially.
The discs have been the same since the 1090 was launched. Take a look at this image: bit.ly/3bhb7iW. If your discs look like that, they're not all metal. They're plastic encased metal with a plastic core hub. And, unfortunately, prone to failing just like the 552, despite the addition of the large encased metal washer. Think of it as Bowflex's half-ass attempt to reinforce a disc.
I assume at some point Bowflex will see what I've done and get the hint that maybe it should redesign its discs for future dumbbells. That hasn't happened yet.
Dang, I think you're right. :( I even scratched the black bit with my nail and could've sworn it felt like metal, but now that I check more closely it does seem to be a plastic shell. If this has been an ongoing issue for them, I don't understand why they wouldn't go all metal to be done with it once and for all. Oh well, at least I live in a country where they have to fix it for free if it fails in the first five years.
@@mascot4950 Dude...thousands of us are right there with you. We all wonder the exact same thing. They had 20 years to fix it...still haven't. You'd think safety would be the number one priority when designing exercise equipment. Yet here we are today. Sucks, I know.
Of course now I am dying to know which country you're in. Seriously...the 5 year free parts and labor warranty on purchases...that's awesome. Any room there for one more foreigner? ;-)
On the positive side, I've found a number of people who've claimed to have been using them regularly for over a decade without having any issues. So, fingers crossed..
I'm in Norway, although I believe much of Europe has similar laws. There are two levels to it. All products (with obvious exceptions) must last a minimum of two years or get repaired for free, and if the product should be expected to last significantly longer than two years the new bar is set at five years. I've had items fail mere weeks before the five year deadline and gotten them fixed at no cost, so the law works.
[Update: 10 June 2020] Hi all, this is a quick additional update as a result of the past 24 hours. I saw another hundred-plus email notifications flying into my inbox since yesterday's update. I was definitely not expecting that sort of volume overnight. Some of you have just found my videos and some of you have been sending in your info for the 552 Series 1 preorder.
Thank you all. I felt it necessary to hop online tonight to post this brief update. I will answer your emails between tomorrow and Sunday as time permits. And I'll send out the preorder invoices as well. I've been flat out with the 552 Series 2 and 1090 prototyping/tweaking to keep things on schedule.. But know that I am receiving your email questions and info. It'll just take me some time between other tasks to get around to replying to everyone. My next update will be early next week, and I hope to kick off 552 Series 2 and 1090 preorders next week as well. Stay safe, and stay tuned!
This is an awesome fix . Will it allow u to perform renegade rows? Due too more stability of the discs. Since its not recommended according too bowflex.
Hiya Alvin. Yes and no. The challenge with body weight exercises and some adjustable dumbbell designs is the stress on load-bearing components. In the case of the SelectTech, those components are the discs and weight plates. Replacing the discs certainly eliminates one point of failure. But the weight plate tabs aren't really going to hold up under the repeated strain of body weight exercises.
So whether you're doing renegade rows or devil's presses, you do run the risk of eventually shearing/fracturing tabs on your weight plates. I'm working, albeit as slowly as molasses, on two potential fixes. The first is what I affectionately refer to as dumbbell "feet" that slightly elevate the dumbbell off the floor during bodyweight exercises. The second is all-metal versions of the weight plates. Both have the potential to allow such exercises. But I'm in the "back of the napkin" stage and it'll be months before I have anything worthwhile to show all of you...that is, if I ever have anything worth showing.
Felicidades
Gran trabajo.
Espero que puedas hacer envíos a México. Estoy interesado en comprar un set completo
Muchas gracias
Recibí tu correo electrónico, Ricardo. ¡Muchas gracias por tu apoyo! El pedido anticipado comenzará pronto si lo desea.
Will these fit into the TroyaForce version as well? I bought that version and it was built very similarly to the bowflex model but a little different.
Hiya James, I know we already discussed this by email a few weeks back. Just leaving a response here to answer this questions for others who may have the same question. Yes, TroyaForce is one of many dozens of resellers "white labeling" the SelectTech knockoff. I cannot tell you which specific knockoff manufacturer they're sourcing from...I wouldn't know. But it's clear they're selling 552 Series 2 copies. My kits can work with knockoffs as well. Cheers!

Hey hey DT...love the nickname man...I come from a family of diesel-lovin' OTR drivers. Head on over to www.averagejoeinnovations.com for all the info. The discs have come a long way since the Spring 2020 video above, and I now have locking pins and stainless steel knurled grips too. Even custom selector dials coming in mid-ish 2022.
So how much is it for the 1090s?
Awesome job! What about shipping to Europe (Spain)? Thanks
Absolutely Dave....I'm not going to leave my European brothers and sisters high and dry. I have roots in Portugal and Spain going back over 500 years. :-). Well....and France, England, etc. I'm a mutt. Hit me up at SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com for more info.
How can I order the new disc
Hey hey Quinton, send an email to SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com for details. Pre-ordering for the first production run ends tomorrow, 6/30, at midnight. Due to the overwhelming demand there will be a second production run after the first. Hopefully by October, after fulfilling both production runs, I'll simply have additional sets in inventory.
Hey Joe I wrote you last week about the broken handle piece. It’s the piece that has Bowflex written on it, mine is red on the Series 2 and you’re is gray. It arrived today but apparently Bowflex designed it with nuts inside the piece where this handle piece screws into. In order to get to that piece, it appears that I need to take the whole handle apart. The series 2 doesn’t have a sticker on the ends. It appears to be a plastic cap of some sort. I can’t seem to pry it off with a screwdriver or a butter knife. It’s taking out pieces of the plastic on the edge so I’m stopping trying for now. Do you have info on how these end caps come off on the Series 2 handles?
Oh man Nicholas. So sorry I am seeing this 2 weeks late. I've been flat out busy keeping the trains running on time...I want to make sure we head into production smoothly. But I am glad I took some time today to answer some YT comments.
Ok, so...those caps are in there hard. That was not your imagination. I have scratched/buggered more than a few prying them out. Had they been properly designed with a notch it'd be a non issue. I use the most flat/skinny blade I can find...preferably plastic of the type used on phone LCD screen repair kits. And you need to press fairly hard to get underneath the cap. Once you do, it'll pry up and off fairly easily.
Yes, you'll need to disassemble the handle to be able to make that replacement go smoothly. By now you've probably already done it. Sorry I wasn't more help sooner.
Thanks Joe. I actually had to end up drilling a hole in the ends caps and prying them out that way. Literally nothing I used could get them out. Each tool was just breaking off pieces of the ends of the caps. I just put them back in with the holes in them. It doesn’t affect function so it doesn’t really bother me. Thanks again.
@@nickygee010 wow, that's crazy. Sorry to read they were in so tightly on yours. I'll be coming out with a line of aluminum end caps that can be removed as well as an entire new selector dial in machined aluminum...stay tuned. Frankly, I don't put the end caps back on any of my sets once they're removed...mostly because they either lose their adhesive or, like the 552S2, they're a pain in the butt to remove.
Hi I'm wanting a pair for my 1090 do you ship to the UK and how much? Really impressed with what you've done keep up the good work.
Hi Jamil, Finally found an hour to breath and reply to some of these older comments. Ship to the UK? Yes, absolutely. Many dozens of UK pre-orders already. Pricing and pre-order info is available by writing to SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com. And thanks for your kind words! I appreciate it!
Hi, does the series 2 has the same problem or they fix it ? Thank you
Every SelectTech model suffers from this issue. 220, 552 S1 and S2, 560 and 1090. Some folks can go years without a single disc failure. Others experience broken discs days, weeks or months after purchase. And I'm not sure why. I took care of mine with no abuse (I have 552 S1 and S2, 560 and 1090) and discs still broke eventually.
@@AverageJoeInnovationsLLC thank you I was planning to order 552 s2 but I haven’t decide yet or the powerblock I guess they all have cons
@@iio8017 All of them have weaknesses and usability challenges. For Powerblock it's the breakable welded attachment points on its lower cost dumbbells, the crackable plastic lip on the end of each handle, and on higher end urethanes the coating peeling off. I tell folks just go with what works for your budget and style, take care of them as best you can, be careful, and address stuff when it comes up.
What is the cost to fully replace all of them for a set of 552's?
Hi Michael, more information is available at SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com and if you have already sent an email, you should hear from me this week as I work my way through the backlog of emails. Thank you for your patience.
Awesome!
:-). Glad you're pumped too Yavor! Thanks for your support!
How do I order discs for my 1090 dumbbells
Hi Ash, shoot an email to SelectTech.fix@gmail.com for more info. Thanks!
Any idea how to tell the series of the Nautilus branded set? They are colored differently. Any other physical distinction?
Hi Kyle, I may have mentioned this to you in an email already, but for everyone else I'll write it again here. For Nautilus the orange letters indicate Series 1. I believe white letters is Series 2.
Is there a distinction for the 1090’s?When I called boflex, they asked me the color of the numbers on the dial and they were red. When I called them about this problem they told me the only solution was to buy a new handle for $130.
@@primetime1143 As far as I am aware, there isn't a "Series 1 and 2" equivalent for the 1090. It appears that at some point they switched to the riveted metal tab on the weight plates, but that was about it. So 1090 is just 1090..no Series X.
Customer service has been telling customers the same thing for quite some time....buy a new handle (complete with the crappy OEM discs). Same advice was given to me more than a year ago. Technically, they don't want customers disassembling the dumbbells. The original instructions state the following "Do not try to disassemble your Dumbbell handles, or base assembly. The product is not designed to be serviced by the customer. Contact your local distributor for repair information." And your local distributor's reply will be....you guessed it...buy a new handle. This is what originally led me to design the discs for my personal dumbbells....and that led to where we're at today with a production Fix.
How do I order these for the 1090 set
Hey hey Marcus, if you send an email to me at SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com I can get you started with pricing and ordering info and answer any questions you may have. Thanks for inquiring man.
Hey, I have a pair of unbranded dumbbells I just got. They are basically the same as Bowflex without the Bowflex branding. Will these work for those? If so, How can I order?
Hi Gentoo. In my experience it depends on the knockoffs. Some are virtually identical....down to the millimeter. Others have had really strange differences....I tested a couple 1090s with a shaft that was 10mm longer....everything was off by about 5mm per side so nothing lined up like OEM. The quality of some knockoffs seems to be excellent, but they all suffer from the same disc/pin issues. In fact, the locking pins on several knockoffs refused to work smoothly. As a result the dials were often difficult to turn...they'd keep getting jammed on the locking pin.
The only way for you to know if they'll fit is to take a few key measurements. If I can find some time over the next couple weeks I will put together a video for people with unbranded knockoffs. I'll show you how to determine if my Disc Fix Kit will fit. I know a couple of customers over in Singapore measured theirs already and they'll definitely fit. Stay tuned!
@@AverageJoeInnovationsLLC Sounds good and thanks for taking the time to give such great info. I can describe mine, they are 552 and the grat tag on top that says "Bowflex" on mine is red and just says "Dumbbell". the endcap piece also says Dumbbell. The numbers on the dial are white. The tray is pretty much identical even down to the warning sticker on it.
Also, have you announced a price for the full set yet? Or do you wait for an email to discuss those details?
Hey hey Kyle, just to avoid posting duplicate responses here in the comment threads, I've stuffed all those details into an automated reply you'll receive when you email SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com

Hi hi Alex, it's as easy as getting more info from SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com. Sorry about the delay. With all the time I spend on keeping my projects moving forward it's a luxury to find a little time to interact with folks here on YT.
How much are these?
Send an email to SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com for complete ordering/pricing info. Thanks!
Hey guys, I had heard and read that 560s are dropping weights too. It appears the 560 uses the same exact disc method to hold weights. If you happen to know of a 560 owner who has personally experienced this problem, please let'm know they can contact me at SelectTech.Fix@gmail.com. Once I have the 552 S1, S2 and 1090 fixes in production I'll circle back and solve that 560 problem too.
Hi-Can I buy a set of these replacement parts from you for my 552's? I have a broken piece and was set to order a new bowflex dumbell?
hey hey Paul, just noticed tonight that you had written a comment a couple weeks back. Thanks again for your pre-order! I appreciate it. Wanted you to know I did finally see your comment.
