When I was in Highschool I found on the floor in the main hallway a Parker Jotter in stainless steel and black. I still have that pen and still enjoy using it so much so that I purchased the full stainless steel version. It's a great pen that is High quality but not so expensive that you would worry about losing it.

Depending on the material used, it is definitely a great (budget) pen. Balpen, rollerball, fountain pen, and pencils, all amazing value!
Sometimes I even prefer my cheap Kaweko Perkeo over my Kaweko Supra Brass which is 8 times more expensive.

My favourite is the Parker jotter every since I found one in a pen case at a second hand store for 5$ which is an okay price but what I didn't know is that it's made out of 925 Silver and the clip is 18carat gold and its not plated its all way through and it was made in the 50th and worth between 380-600$ on the collectors market, the next two pens I will by is the last one you showed ever since Adam Savage featured it on his YT channel and the second is the newly released CRKT Collet Pen Thx to you❤

The Fisher Space Pen #M4B black matte is my all-time favorite, for me, it was the only ballpen I used for years. That was up until I got the Fisher Space Pen Clutch, which was a bit easier to use at work.
The Machine Era Pen (original in brass), is my favorite rollerball pen. I bought multiple a few years ago when they were still very affordable at less than $25 each. Perfect size, nice hefty weight, a classic look, and multiple refill options.

  • @MINDL3SS
    @MINDL3SS 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Wow! Great info here. I just recently got the zebra 701 and the Expandz. The expandz is hands down my favorite compact pen. I love that I dont have to uncap something I just pull it out expand it and its ready to go. I have a smaller generic all metal compact twist pen I got a loooong time ago that is good but the expandz is so much better imo. Full size pen, yeah bolt actions are nice and fidgety and all, buuuuuut, the 701 feels so good and I like the heft of it and the knurling is amazing. You really hit my 2 favorites there. I think our preferences on pens is perfectly aligned.
I didnt know RitR had a bolt action. I might have to check that out though.

Hi, Dominic. Great video. A pen you turned me on to, the Olight mini bolt action, usually around 12 or 13, but you can get it for 6 or 7 during the company's many sales. Love Rite in the Rain stuff. Also a fan of Everyman's Grafton and Mini Grafton, but they are more premium.

  • @edgaraquino2324

Good video! You might want to check out another Bic which is 4-in-1 but includes a mechanical pencil & eraser....it is black, silver & white....I find that the powder blue & white inks last longer than a black & silver one that has also been around for a bit...

  • @sda4jesus1
    @sda4jesus1 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

LOVE your videos. You've been on fire lately, brother!
I actually prefer the blue/white body for the Bic 4 in 1. I generally don't like black as a color, and because a fair number of products come standard in black, I opt for other colors when available (excepting--of course--some truly outlandish colors).
I edc the Bic 4 in 1. Its fatal flaw is the clip, which has no grip whatsoever. I remedied this by paracord looped through a belt loop, and the Bic's lanyard hole, and rests in my front pocket. Without a lanyard stratagem, I lose these pens constantly when depending on the clip.

I would recommend Bigidesign’s pen collection. I have their small Fountain (pen) EDC, and their Dual Click is something I appreciate since it takes a wide range of refills oil or gel. I’ve even shortened the refills to have it in a 4”+ length. I got the titanium stonewashed finished and practically will age nicely.

Before I became a diehard pocket organizer user and got a Fisher bullet that I really love, I had a little Fisher stowaway pen that I loved but lost.
I've thought about getting another but love the bullet so much that I don't think I'd actually use it.
I started with a chrome bullet, then got the brass and eventually put the textured chrome grip into the brass body.
I really wish they'd offer this option, they have a chrome and bass version but it seems to be a smooth grip from what I've seen.
If I didn't use a pocket organizer I probably wouldn't carry a bullet, because I lost the clip off of my chrome bullet before I started carrying a pocket organizer.

The zebra f301 compact is hard to beat, I got a 2 pack for $6 and they are nearly perfect. It somehow writes as good as my gel pens, it feels great, no accidental discharge concern, great materials for the price, super small, what’s not to like?

The F-701 is great and I have a few of them but I've switched to a G-750 as my EDC pen. Blacked out all metal and uses the JK refills without having to cut them like I do on the 701.

Dom, just rewatched this. Ordered the Zebra 301 and the 701 for about $17 including shipping. The guys at Bastion and Refyne won't like to hear that but went the budget route. Think both of these will be great EDC pens. I ordered an Everyman Grafton mini about 8 months ago and carry it a lot, but at 45 dollars I've had had that dreaded feeling, Oh no where is my pen? a couple of times. I can only imagine what I would feel if I spent 100. Thanks for all the great info. My knife, flashlight, pens, notebook are my essential gear. I have found I just don't use a prybar or a driver so they end up sitting at home.

I used to work as an interface designer - lots of meetings and a fair amount of sketching. So my daily writing was with a pencil rather than a pen. I used a Rotring 800 sometimes, but my main pencil was a Pentel Graphgear 1000. I love the look, and mine has lasted for years and years. They come in all sorts of lead sizes - I favor the 0.3, but for heavier writing tasks, the 0.5 is nice. In the past 5 years or so, I switched to a Kuru Toga - it rotates the lead when you lift up, so you always have a sharp point on your pencil.Though, since I like 0.3mm, it's a bit overkill at that point.

    • @chupy8901
      @chupy8901 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

O,5 Kuru Toga roulette is amazing with it's knurling section.
Also Kuru Toga Pipe slide has retractable lead sleeve, there are more premium advance/Advance upgrade versions. So it's better to EDC with retracted sleeve.
All of those with rotating engine ofc.

No doubt the B3 Aviator is the bees knees! Ive been carrying one for over 15 years. Never broken one, but did lose my first one sadly. Ive managed to carry my current one for at least 8 years now. It has a sort of brass and black camo pattern now due to the black finish rubbing off in some places from all the use. It gets used everyday in the trades as im a builder and it serves as the jobsite writing implement as well as the business side writing utensil. So many cool things about the pen. One quirky thing I love about it is how it sounds and feels when you twist it into action. I carry a Victorinox One Handed Trekker as my edc knife and the way the B3 Aviator sounds and feels when you actuate it is so reminiscent of the way an SAK operates. Ive thought for years now that Victorinox needs to adopt the B3 Aviator as its official multipen and come out with a Swiss Army version of the pen. That would be so cool imo since its basically the Swiss Army knife of pens imo.

    Lets see...
I got a mountain of POKKAs myself (metal, rite in rain, yellow, black, green/brown, orange...I swear they multiply in my drawers!).
Got that super mini card pen in my wallets. Several spacepens, obviously. (card pens are a gift from GF, but they are handy)
That Black Bic 4-in-1 is my daily driver! I have an absolute PILE of them! (I remember seeing you use it on stream last night and called it out hah) A wrap of clear tape fixes the join-break...and yeah, they break there often haha.
I also run a Uniball Powertank. Normal pen with pressurized ink that writes on ANY typical-EDC waterproof papers and notepads (my wacky ORANGE arctic survival FieldNotes, my various RiR, etc)
Work EDC the blue-ink Uniball SIGNO for signing checks and the like (security ink and in blue so a black signature is provably a photocopy).
    Gimmicky
I got an olight open in woodland textured bronze/brass/copper...something...it is gimmicky and I like it but rarely use it.
The TOMBOW Air Press is a neat one I have a couple of and keep them by the computers for some reason...SUPERsatisfying fidgety clicker, and it has a mechanism that pressurizes and seals whatever standard ink you have in it when you click and unseals when you click again, so it is a pressurized writer with normal ink, but if it 'explodes' it doesnt drain because it is only pressurized when using it. I guess the pressure from one click will last for several pages of writing before you would have to do it again...and who writes upside-down THAT MUCH???
Lastly, I have a couple rOtrings for drafting.
I am gonna have to check out that skillcraft for sure!

I think it could take a Fisher space pen refill but don't quote me on it

I've used fountain pens almost entirely since school so have completely gotten used to their far more comfortable feel, they are smoother, wetter and have a thicker grip than ballpoints and gel pens. However, sometimes I have to write on particularly bad quality paper or have to make a note fast, in which case I have found that Tactile Turn pens with Pilot G2 inserts have the best experience with grip texture, balance and smoothness, not to mention how good their mechanisms feel! Unfortunately they are far out of the price range of this list. I wish they were more affordable but I also appreciate how expensive it it to manufacture in the US especially with such a high level of precision on CNC machined titanium. If I had to pick one from this video to use I'm fairly certain that I would go with the Parker Jotter.

My personal top 3 - the ones I own - are on the lower end pricewise so nothing special but practical and no big loss if something happens to them:
    - Tombow Airpress - made in Japan, pressurised ballpoint, nice chunky design
    - Milwaukee Inkzall marker - cheap as chips and an alternative to a Sharpee
    - Online mini twist pen - a tiny ballpoint at around 3 inches long, just a scaled down standard ballpoint with pocket clip, this one fits in the 5th pocket of my jeans. Still not too uncomfortable to write with but I wouldn't want to write a letter with it, it's fine as a general EDC (contingency) pen
Finally if I am not carrying any of those 3 I would have either my Swisschamp or Climber Plus, for a pen I can use in a pinch.

Check out the forever pen, I got the forever pro, it is a bit longer, for a better grip, I think the original is about the same size as a phillips head bit. For small pens there is also Alapka Nano Inc that you can use as a zip puller and Keyport Pen Insert for a pen that is integrated with your key carry.
I think for me personally though, I am going to get some Minimo Pen, since I got a credit card sized rite in the rain that fits in my flowfold minimalist wallet. I get a lot of medical appointments so having pen and paper near my ID and medical info is very handy. I actually hesitated on watching this video, because I thought I had my perfect pen, but this one works better. I also got the victorinox nailcare swisscard, which has a pen, but it doesn't fit in the wallet, well, it might but I don't want to try to force it in.

    Yey, pen skittles!
However regarding b3 I have opposite experience. Didnt you had any problem with pocket clip? I used to have SKILCRAFT B3, and in my case its shine not so brite. First of all pocket clip broke within couple of month, then I start to carry it in the bag so I start to forgot it moving from one place to enother. So I get back to two items together Parker pen & Mechanical pencil. Now even if I forgot one writing implement I still have second. So I decided for myself that in any case Pen and Pencil (whatever they are) should be separate things.

3 points: First, I love Pokka pens and I want one with your logo. Would you add them to your merch? Also, on their metallic jackets, they should change the key ring to the part that is longer, so you can have the pen hanging from your keys and take out the the pen to write easily, without having the keys attached to it. Second, I love the Bic 4 colors and use it daily. Yes, I “hate” the blue one, so I changed that part with a red one (red is my favorite color), but I’ve been looking at the black one and it is nice. I just wish they’d change the pocket clip to a functional one, because the actual one is horrible and absolutely useless to keep the pen in the pocket. Third: I love Sharpies and have them in every color, but the truth is that, is you don’t keep them with their caps, their lifespan will shorten quickly. A wonderful alternative is the Bic Mark It permanent marker, it also comes in thin and wider tips. You can leave it open and come back later and it still works; also it bleeds less on paper than Sharpie. For some reason they’re harder to find, at least where I live, and Amazon don’t ship them here (I can only buy them if a friend at the US receives them and ship them to me 🤷🏻. Anyway, I think you can give them a try. Oh, and one last note: the mini pen from OLIGHT is surprisingly awesome, very compact, and very nice to write with it. It recently come in brass, too, so there’s that.

Love Pokka pens, they’re inexpensive worry-free pocket droppers. Only downside is they are too big for many of the sleeves designed for Space Pens… speaking of which, those stupid things are constantly coming apart in my pocket. I don’t even know what the problem is, but I’ve got a small collection of Space Pens and they ALL need warranty repair.
Only thing I’d add to this list is the Victorinox Signature w/pen (or other 58mm SAK with pen)… the pen on those tiny little SAK’s is surprisingly durable, plus you get these little tools that are useful for personal grooming and small repairs. For most of what I use a pocket pen for, it’s honestly hard to beat a SAK… only downside is looking a bit like a geek in certain circles.

Ah darn it. That would make it damn near perfect imo. Really though I've used a B3 pretty much everyday for over 10 years in many different conditions writing on lots of different surfaces and have never had a time when it wouldn't write. Being in the construction trade I use my B3 for jobsite and office work and it just keeps writing rain or shine. I'm sure there are some circumstances where a pressurized cartridge could be really beneficial but I've never come across one in my lived experience.

I'm actually stunned that neither of Olight's main two offerings made the list, but ESPECIALLY the O'pen Mini bolt action. Not even an honorable mention? I'm sure you have your reasons, as I know you're very familiar with pretty much the entire Olight catalog. The Mini is my main EDC pen, so much so, that I've purchased every color they've made, including brass. If they did a damascus version, I missed it, but couldn't have afforded it anyway. The free refills that they offered early on, was an extra level of "no brainer". Love the cap-less bolt design, and they write like a champ every time. I get that many people want their pocket pens to adapt to full length (I do have a few Pokkas), but since that's not a concern for me, these are the ultimate pocket pen. I clip them to a shirt pocket when I have one, but the fact that I know it will lay at the bottom of a pants pocket horizontally, is a big plus. Three "colorways" (sorry, I still hate that term...it's as bad as "bespoke") I'm hoping for next are a rainbow Ti, Zombie Green, and whatever the hell they call the Homer pink donut/sprinkles pattern. 🤣

One would expect the Fisher pens to be an unquestionable choice for EDC. I had them, decades ago, and unfortunately, they were horribly unreliable. I tried them again, over the last 3 years. They are every bit as unreliable as I remember. Not only lousy EDC pens, but only useful as talking gimmicks.
The Pokka pens look nice, granted. I have several. The double-dock feature is a great idea. Useless as a writing instrument. The same goes for the Rite in the Rain pens. The common thread is the Fisher refills. Just complete junk.
    Fortunately, there are viable options.
The Zebra pens are OK. I use better inserts. The updated F-701 is a good pen. I also give out the F-301.
The Expanz still is not good for pockets.
For years, I used Bic pens. They were very reliable, fairly durable, and inexpensive. Somehow, their combo pens just are not particularly reliable. Most Bic pens look exactly like cheap pens.
The Parker and Cross pens are...expensive disappointments. Junk.
I have some pens from Skillcraft. They were unreliable. Not necessarily poor quality, but not high quality. I don't have the Aviator B3, though. Not anything in which I'm intested.
I have tried hundreds of pens. I tried every pen people raved about. My conclusion was that most of these people settled for terrible pens. The purpose of a pen is to write under any conditions on any surface. Most pens fail miserably. Most of these pens, in fact. I have to question if you have used them, or if you are just willing to accept a pen that isn't reliable, based on how it looks.

The Skillcraft B3 Aviator is a fantastic multipen! I did do some research on Skillcraft way back when I just luckily came accross the B3 over 15 years ago and can see where your opinion could be valid in some cases regarding some of their products. I did see that Skillcraft also makes some pretty inexpensive pens that look to be throw away quality. But I can assure you the B3 Aviator is a quality multipen. Ive had and used one for 15 years and it is to this day my favorite multipen and Ive tried so many multipens over the years including much pricier options. And ive not been able to find one that will beat it for the cost, quality, and versatility.
