While the original contract for En Vogue was clearly NOT the best, without it, you may not have ever made the PUNCH you did with Terry, Dawn and Cindy. Never apologize for the choices you’ve made to make a name for yourself. Losing the “Quad-Squad” package was tough for you and for your fans. From my first viewing of “Hold On” at The Apollo to you opening up “My Loving, You’re Never Gonna’ Get It,” I’ve been a Maxine fan. You and Dawn had the most unique voices in the group, and you still do. Magic happened when Foster-McElroy put the four of you together…….and we all have great memories of the first three albums and the Christmas album. Thank you for everything you’ve given us, and still have left to give. Hope you come to Houston this year. I am not worthy of your coolness, but will love being a member of your audience. You four got screwed by your contract, but you still have a fortune of good fortune to come. Congrats to you!
I think that's the most fundamental question aspiring artists should know (production deal vs being signed to the label). They should also ask about what a 360 deal is. Artists should try to take a basis business 101 class is it relates to entertainment or some sort of contract class for entertainment.
First CONGRATS to Maxine on her exciting music career moves, keep at it.. ALL the Best 👏🏽💌 Far as contracts, a business-music industry education most singing artists starting out didn’t have a clue.. so easily taken advantage of, until the obvious..they signed a one sided contract and literally working for fee. One of the more positive stories is 90’s “The Boys” 4 brothers, their parents (father) educated themselves first by taking a college music industry course to learn the business prior to making the investment of signing any contract (Motown)… their active involvement, and no doubt help to effectively manage singing careers of their young teen & pre-teen children… more importantly they knew when to get out of it too.. their kids seeming to go on to live normal productive lives.. it’s what’s possible when parental involvement (Brandy, Ursher, Destiny Child, Beyoncé…) not all messed up… with a fair share of industry longevity… many of those late 80’s 90’s production 360 deals, like En Vogue signed on the spot, into group situation (trio, quartet, quintet) are some of the worst Rip-off scams (New Edition) from many, many Unsung stories while under iron-clad contracts🥲 ..financially no rewards being in a groups back then, most profit went in middle man bank account.. thus splitting very little 3,4,5… ways.. this happened to super-stardom groups, got paid and ripped-off at the same time, such as with Backstreet Boys story involving their manager who legally had to pay up.. eventually went to jail, this manager was out of control, just doing to much…😅 Again, all the best to Maxine Jones🍀🌻

Wish this had been longer! Really valued hearing Max’s perspective at this point in her life and career. There are valuable lessons in there for anyone, and also helps clarify things for EV fans (since Dawn talks a *lot* from her perspective, and Terry & Cindy say very little). I have a pipe dream that Max will continue to thrive and develop her own creative spaces and projects as an entrepreneur and artist. And that, from time to time when it’s mutually beneficial, she’ll join Cindy, Terry & Rhona for special En Vogue performances. I’ll always believe that these girls love each other, and jam beautifully together - despite all they’ve been through. I hope for healing, for joy, for prosperity, and - literally and figuratively - for harmony. Y’all were born to sing, after all. Blessings!
Maxine, I have so much respect for you, as well as Kita and Tina, for never giving up on your dreams. I guess you would make a name for yourself one way or the other. You were a phenomal artist with your brading. I would just marvel at your work because you were such a creative Artist. I was in a group with you on an Black Filmakers Hall of Fame ceramony in Oakland and I don't know if you remember but Cindy was Ms Black California at the time. I think maybe had the original 4 truly viewed each other as sisters and were loyal to each other like family, they’d still be together and things would’ve been very different for them. I think the way they were put together was divine in the sense of their talent but I think had they all formed enough ties to each other and developed a strong bond outside of their business, it may have made a difference for them. Shouldn’t have mattered who was catty or bratty, that’s your sister and we come as 4 nobody can kick out anyone. That’s how the power is reclaimed. Having them sign a non negotiable deal was a set up for making them feel powerless and disrupts deep loyalty from brewing amongst them as it should have.
Yeah Terry was late due to her flight being delayed or cancelled. Each girl apparently sung Waitin on You, each recorded a version and the producers kept switching the girls in and out to see which 3 they wanted, but they couldn't decide and didn't want to let any of them go, so picked all 4. Dawn's version went on Born To Sing, not sure if she resung it or it's the original vocals.

Sandra should not have given that sigh when Maxine said she would do it again. As a person that’s been in the industry she should know you have to give something to get something and when there are millions of people wanting to get “on” this is common and worth it for many. What artist hope is they get so big they can renegotiate which happens all the time. That was not a good look in the interview from Sandra’s perspective. The rest was very good for the public.
Every time I hear a story about a singer's or group's experience in the music industry, IT'S NEVER A GOOD STORY!!!!! Fortunately for that industry, artists usually just LOVE what they do regardless of how much money is made, and THAT is the only reason why many even sign on with these demonic record labels in the first place. I'm willing to be that most artists would rather own their own stuff, do their own marketing, etc., but all of that costs money and that's when these labels come into play because if they want the world to see/hear them, they need the big machine's push (the Illuminati). But at the end of the day, the label wins and the artists are always left with a bad taste in their mouths and an horrific story. It's just sad... I'm glad there's now streaming and those raggedy, trashy, evil, demonic-azz record labels don't make the money they used too off of record sales. May they all rot in hell!!!!

@@lawrencescott1048 as the saying goes, if you haven't got nothing nice to say, then don't. Besides she's in her late 50's early 60's here, so give the lady a break.
@stevesas632 You are over dramatizing, I merely made a statement that's all, I am not persecuting her, some people age better than others, Cindy for example is a year older than her and looks much younger.
@lawrencescott1048 Cindy has also had several plastic surgery procedures, Maxine has left her face alone, there is nothing wrong with the way she looks at all.
