Great Video... Its just how I learned it in class but 100x quicker.. took structure 3 years ago.. currently taking sedstrat and totally forgot how to measure S/D.. Thank you for this perfect tutorial. My memory is refreshed!
B J Of course it’s going to take you longer in class to learn it. It’s all about how much money the school can rape idiots out of. I went to a technical college and earn more than most idiots that majored in any BOS degree. Keep wasting your time in college. You’ll have a ton of debt to repay on a McDonald’s pay scale. Too many people in college thinking they will get rich. Welders make way more than college grads these days. And they don’t owe any college loans.
The other person who replied was pretty rude. I'm not sure if you're still wondering since you asked over a year ago, but this compass is mainly for geologists. It is very helpful in mapping geologic structures. Obviously that is vague, but you get the idea.
It is EXCELLENT for navigation . It is also a geological compass and that is WHY people want to know rock angles . Mining and geology . can gather a lot of information from striation strike and dip.

I'm an AS-Level Geology student (first year of a two year course) in England and this video was really helpful for my work, thank you!!
Hi Alice
I am manufacture brass brunton compass
Good demo. In addition to strike and dip, I can find accurate time, latitude and longitude with my Brunton.
Excellent!! Well explained. Glad to watch this simple video for strike and dip for my students to handle simple fieldwork.
Thanks you sweet ppl, I’d become geologist just to have colleagues like you!!
very comprehensive video, well done!
Chuck is a geological legend
Excellent instructive video
best brunton's compass tutorial
simple to understand, thank you

i have the brunton compass, and i want to know about orientation thanks
its great. can u help me how to calculate slope degree? please help
Why is measuring rocks in 3d useful?
What is this used for? I am interested in knowing how to determine lat/lon with the compass as well as time? Can you show us that as well?
so we can point the sighting arm upward?? i thought it must be pointing downward.. sorry i am a first year geology student so dont really know
what is the different this two position will do?
did any body have subtitle of this video?
Thanks
it's helpful
Bruh i love this man-go tribe
The Olmec people may have been the first to have invented the compass very little is know for what or why.
First, WHY would someone want to know the angle of a rock?
Secondly, Would you say that this Compass is good for general sea and land navigation?
It is EXCELLENT for navigation . It is also a geological compass and that is WHY people want to know rock angles . Mining and geology . can gather a lot of information from striation strike and dip.
Good tutorial. Not the best but good enough. Enough to get your ass lost in the woods! 😂
It is NOTHING to do with orienteering is it? Stupid comment.
