Immolation is just too good for this world, one of the few bands that just doesn't have a bad album. Close to a World Below is one of their best, too.

Bolt Thrower's final album did nothing for me but I enjoy the rest of their stuffs. Immolation is just a model of consistency, they've stayed true to Death Metal longer than the career of most extreme metal bands.
@@LepiSladja BT are straightforward DM and nothing more. I love em but no band sounds like Immolation or has their spectacular discography. No Immolation album sounds like the previous one and they practically reinvented themselves and DM in general with CTAWB. Not in the same league if you ask me. I'm a fanatic when it comes to Death Metal and have listened to a ton of Death Metal. Immolation is simply a god-like band. BT cannot touch them at all.

I second that my favorite drummer. Saw band the twice at CBGB for the first time when they promoted and played songs from Close To A World Below album i had no clue who they were back in the early '00's, bought the album and sure enough the entire album was really good one of my favorite songs close to a world below. I also saw them again in Queens, NY and took a picture with the lead singer Ross Dolan, in front of the venue he and his band were going to play at.
Alex Hernadez, is a great drummer watching him play the drums in person at a concert makes the live experience better next to listening to the album at home. The band should have kept Hernandez, he was great.
In concert Hernadez, had a cow bell like instrument on the drum set as he was hitting it along with the symbols while drumming it was the first time i saw and knew he was going to be my favorite drummer and still is, next to drummer Jean Dolabella, of Sepultura 'Alex' album my favorite track 'Sadistic Values' the drums are amazing on there as well and Raymond Herrera, of Fear Factory 'Obsolete' album my favorite tracks Hi-Tech Hate and Freedom or Fire. My top three favorite bands of all time.

FREEDOM OR FIRE is by far my favorite Fear Factory song! Obsolete has been one of my favorite albums for 20 years, since high school, and is so nostalgic every time i listen to it i am transported into the Sierra Nevada mountains to become 17 again.

A couple footnotes about Immolation. I've never considered them a satanic band, and as far as what they've actually professed in interviews over the years, I don't get the impression they consider themselves satanic either. From things they have said, I assume they are agnostic leaning towards atheism.
They are anti-religion, but there's always been an underlying thread that they reject the hypocrisy and oppression of religion more than rejection of the teaching or spiritual message. In the context of their lyrics, there's almost always the artistic conceit that we are living in a world where the Christian mythology is factual, but the message has been corrupted by man, or the Deity themself isn't telling the truth. It's like a logic exorcise - if A is true, then B cannot be true.
So, working off the assumption that the basic Christian mythology is factual, then it is either 1. divine propaganda, or 2. has been corrupted by man to pursue power, or 3. that God failed.

"I've never heard a song about how great humans are" - Every love song ever is about how great a human is, and the fact that we all can relate to love songs means we all agree, to some extent, that some human is great. If we all agree that some human is great, and we're all talking about different people when we say that - doesn't that mean most of us are great to someone? Love songs are expressing that in a weird unintentional way.

What I really love is how you give your reactions based upon your Religious beliefs but at the same time NOT trying to force your personal beliefs on others, and I personally greatly appreciate and respect that.
What I mean is this: you two give your reactions/opinions of the lyrics of a song with your own personal Religious beliefs as a filter, yet at the same time you both respect the fact that not everyone shares your personal beliefs and are simply reacting to great songs.

this might be my favorite death metal song ever. Though it's really 2/3 death 1/3 black.
Also, I never realized that Immolation is probably a christian band. They are insanely critical of the church and of humanity, but that criticism doesn't really make sense outside a christian point of view. it's obviously from the point of view from a non-believer, but as you point out they are clearly writing from within the context of christianity, and even as non-believers make brutal and beautiful art in telling the gospel as you say.
I interpret it a bit differently. I think they take the point of view of a believer in most of their music, but ultimately conclude that the message is morally corrupt and based on propaganda of something ultimately untrue and should be rejected on that basis. Like the supernatural aspects of heaven and hell maybe are factual, but their actual purpose and motivations aren't what we have always been told, and the teachings enslave or weaken us, and can't protect us from the ultimate horrors. Maybe we are just pawns in a game where to win, we are purposely misled.
@@heresyisprogress Absolutely, they definitely aren't some pope-fearing catholics. That said I don't think they say the message is itself corrupt, just that it used by corrupt actors. And I think they and you are probably right
It doesn't make sense (or doesn't seem to) outside of a Christian perspective, because that's the perspective Ross Dolan and other members of Immolation have. But the root message of it all is pretty consistent. It's against organized religion and the idea that there will be a higher power to fix the mess that we as humans have created.

Considering how Black Metal, Punk, Nu Metal or even Female fronted bands have all had a "week", can't help but think this should have been in a Death Metal Week, so they could learn about the genre, and we could have some Bolt fucking Thrower, among many others.
