  • Hello everyone! I am back with another interview, and this time it is with a behemoth in the guitar community -- none other than Mr. Tommy Emmanuel, CGP!
    I cannot tell you how excited and grateful I was to get to do this. We covered so much material, but still only scratched the surface of the deep well that is Tommy's knowledge regarding life as a professional musician.

    I grew up listening to Tommy and his brother Phil playing small gigs in Australia in the 80s. He was brilliant then , the envy of the local guitarists , and such a humble down to earth guy .
    In the intervening 40+ years he has only gotten better .

    I was blessed to see Tommy perform two nights ago at the Sheldon here in St. Louis. It was the best concert of my life... and I've seen many. Bonus... I met Tommy at a meet & greet before the show-- a birthday gift from my wife. He is kind. Generous. Thoughtful. Shows genuine interest in everyone, their questions, their presence. So impressed. The performance was unlike anything I've ever experienced that touched on every emotion. You will be astonished. You'll laugh (he is hilarious when he wants to be). You'll cry (happy tears). You will be happy--Tommy's goal. As he says, he is in the happy business. It's 48 hours after the show and I'm still feeling the love... and definitely feeling the happy. Thank you, Tommy for the inspiration and the happy. I can't wait to experience your show again!! 😎🎸👍

    Just watched this again and one thing I think is kind of missed ... under-appreciated, maybe...? Is the amount of work and sacrifice that Tommy has clocked to get to where he is. Consider how long he has been a professional touring musician, his amazing back catalogue, his session work back here in Australia... doing 320-odd shows a year to build that following... this is barely touching the surface. He is a phenomenal performer and still absolutely loves what he does. Blows me away. I wish someone would do a doco about his life, that would be awesome. 💜

    Going to see Tommy on June 11th. I bought VIP meet and greet tickets and am hoping I can get him to sign my favorite guitar. Never been more excited in my life! Started playing guitar 5 months ago and my life has been better ever since. Finding Tommy Emmanuel on youtube has been my biggest inspiration and am truly thankful for all he does.

      @CodyJungGuitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s so great! You’re going to have the time of your life! Very few musical events compare to seeing Tommy in concert. He’s amazing. Then, couple that with the meet and greet? You’re going to have a blast. Also, Tommy definitely signs guitars - you should be good to go on that. The only time I’ve seen him hesitate is when it’s a vintage or otherwise super collectible guitar.

    Oh, Tommy. You are probably the most unsung musical export Australia has ever produced.
    You go through the interview espousing toughness, tenacity and a supreme work ethic that got you to where you are now.
    You encourage others to do the same, whether in this field or any other field. You say to learn from the best and to allow their ideas to stimulate your creative juices moving forward. All advice about how to do a better job with a great work ethic that can showcase ones talent with all human beings around the world.
    And then you say this 44:27 - 44:57
    For crying out loud, take credit for your hard earned 60+ years of blood sweat and tears.
    You and you alone (along with the help of the people you mention in this interview) are the one/s who deserve all the prosperity and accolades that have come your/their way. Do not sell yourself short in any way shape or form. It saddened me to hear this part of the interview from a man who takes nothing for granted and stands tall in his chosen field of excellence.
    And then at 45:40 - 46:30 you speak like a true Aussie and take no sh*t. Love it.
    You are still the GOAT though Tommy.😊

    This is probably the best interview ever of Tommy! This is part of what makes Tommy have a following - he’s very much in touch with human nature and being centered and our place in the world. He’s never lost the central piece of what it is to be human, a great musician and all the in between. THIS is why we all love Tommy! He’s the best guitar player I’ve ever seen in person on stage twice, but he’s very in touch with why he’s there, who got him there and in touch with those who want to see him. We all know why. Tommy was voted best all round guitarist a number of times...in some areas on the guitar he is the best in my opinion...particularly finger style ...but he fits in group situations flat picking as good or better than the next guy also in my opinion.

    • @CodyJungGuitar
      @CodyJungGuitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Tommy's flatpicking is incredible! I think, like you said, trying to put him into any one particular category just does not work. He just plays everything so well! Thank you for watching!

    I Love Tommy, one of the best Guitar players out there, in my book it's Tommy Emmanuel, Doyle Dykes, Brent Mason, Albert Lee, Doug Seven, Johnny Hiland, Jimmy Olander, Chet Atkins, Merle Travis, Jerry Reed, Reggie Young, Ricky Skaggs, Vince Gill, James Burton, Steve Wainer and still so many others I can't name right now, and what I just named is not in any particular order.

      Thank you!! Yeah, he is incredibly down to earth. Just the fact that he was even willing to do this interview - he did not need to do this, ya know? At the level that he’s at, he could have easily said no, and not lost anything. However, his willingness to be part of the guitar community really shows just how down to earth he is (not to mention just how passionate he is about guitar!).

      @@CodyJungGuitar I agree with a comment below - I think this is probably Tommy's finest interview, especially for fans who have seen him interviewed many times before. You asked very precise questions and Tommy responded so openly - giving very detailed, personal answers about aspects i've never seen him mention before. I've met Tommy myself, a couple of times - and he's just as you expect him to be - friendly, generous, straight-talking and humorous. The hardest working man in showbusiness - force of nature.

    • @CodyJungGuitar
      @CodyJungGuitar  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you!! That’s always the challenge with interviewing someone like Tommy (people who have been interviewed a lot) - trying to come up with questions that haven’t been asked and answered a bunch of times before. So, getting a compliment like that means a lot, thank you again!
      Also, yes, Tommy is a very hard working, but also kind and generous person. Couldn’t have said it better myself!
