@@gtracingnewton LA is the best and the worst at the same time is my opinion . It is the most racially troubled of the West but compared to any Midwest City with exception to Minneapolis , It is head and shoulders better . San Diego and Sacramento on the West Coast are the best . San Francisco before the tech revolution was by far the best in America . I would say as a result subsequently SF went from great to good but the East Bay is better . The worst in the North are Cleveland Cincinatti Pittsburg . Not just race relations but economically and city life for Blacks and everybody else for that matter it is pitiful . Seattle Portland Denver are the best in the USA for race relations .

As someone who lives in Michigan the Flint issue is misleading, the local officials have the final say so in where they get water from. 90% of the local officials in Flint are black. The Flint water crisis was because you had people cutting corners to help themselves had almost nothing to do with race. I could see it being racially motivated if the cities politicians were white but there not. Not saying Flint hasn't had its racial issues but the water crisis was not a good example of this. I was not a fan of gov. Rick Snyder and voted for Big Gretch but he is also not really at fault since drinking water in America is to be maintained by local officials.

It was so different in the South because due to its sordid history, I expected the southern states to be very racist. I found out that the white people in the Southern States were much nicer than I expected. Even a white woman in a store let me use the store phone (before cell phones were out) and walked off and did not give it a second thought. I made my phone call to AAA, got my road side service and I thanked her and that was it! Any racism I saw was within the military and it was third hand, none of them said anything crazy to me directly. I spoke my mind because I don’t play that racism comments or none of that! I didn’t care about rank when it came to that. But I have witnessed it when it came to UCMJ action being a Paralegal in the military. Other than that, I didn’t see or hear anything off kiltered down south.

Hence to this day the oldest big cities in the USA are the most segregated. The newer big cities are the opposite. They are the most integrated.

I can already give away what number one would be and that's Los Angeles.

Many of the tech bros are types that come from very limited exposure to any minority outside of Asian Females . Detroit had racial problems very badly in the 60’s and earlier. I could even say part of the seventies. All of it came to a head when we had the ‘67 riots and the Algiers Motel incident. In my old neighborhood, it was mostly Jewish back in the ‘50s until black families started moving in. From the automotive industry, many from the Greatest, The Silent Generations and older Baby Boomers had jobs in the Auto factories making GOOD money! The whites and Jewish moved out to the suburbs while Detroit’s demographics started getting more melanated. Everyone was driving nice cars and living in mini mansions including my family. We still had some problems still but not really bad ones since the riots. Then came that Bussing issue which started all over again. When we got our first Black Mayor Coleman A. Young, there was some animosity between Wayne County and Oakland County’s L. Brooks Paterson. I left Detroit for the military and haven’t returned until 2012. The whites and blacks pretty much get along now in the city from where I can see. Now Oakland and Macomb Counties, there may be a few who can act a fool but I’ve haven’t had any issues thus far. Detroit really isn’t as bad as some of these other cities in the North.
