      Can get it started ,might run 5 minutes or 15 then shut down and won't start back up for at least a half hour. Never runs for more than a half hour. Bowl iz clean, always run good fuel ethanol free.

    Great tip, Jay. Here in East TN the little buggers will plug every hole they can find. Once they plugged the vent on my tractors fuel tank and it collapsed when cold weather came.

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow that sucks! Its one thing to plug an exhaust but another thing to cause a tank to collapse!

    It’s a good idea to run small engines once a month, just to keep them exercised. I have a leaf blower that is especially temperamental. My log splitter needs a gas shut off, so that I can run the fuel out of it before I shut it down for a few days or so. I usually just run the gas out of it. Thanks for the info on the plugged muffler, crazy!

  • @FromSteelToWood
    @FromSteelToWood 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow... a good thing you looked there! I would have never suspected that! That is almost a good thing the nest blocked enough the exhaust it did not run. Otherwise, it could have melted the valves. Those were very nice days in New Hampshire and Massachusetts yesterday and today. I was there for work. Cold though... Was able to "escape" to Canada this afternoon just before the traffic jams on the roads! Have a nice Thanksgiving Jay!

    I have you beat.. I sell Mazda rotary engines and parts..
    About 15 years ago I sold a guy in Kansas a rebuilt block I did and about a year later he calls me and says my enging wont turn over..
    He used the key and it just goes clunk after that nothing.. His is really frustrated so he pulls the engine out and sends it back to me for inspection.
    In transit i am thinking he drop something down the intake as it happens.. Even to the best of us it happens..
    I get his Engine on the tare down stand and start looking for marks and signs of something inside.. Nothing, I,cant even turn it over by hand..
    Rotary Engines are simmlier to motor cycle engines you can turn them over by hand..
    Uppon taking the rear plat off (equivalent to a head) I find one of the chambers was packed full of wheat.. All because of a mouse..
    My customer was soo embarrassed he didn't know what to say.. But we did get a good laugh out of it..

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Dan! Thats a wild story! I had a motorcycle like that one time! It had such a nest in the intake chambers since the air box was off I couldnt believe it. They got past the slides on the carbs and nested in the intake port! its amazing where critters will make a home! I am a mechanic so Im familiar with rotarys and thats interesting for sure! Glad you didnt ruin any starters by cranking on it trying to compress wheat LOL

    Mud wasps have a way of ruining your day!, glad it wasn’t something too expensive. When you replace your spark arrestor, put a slide screen in, this will prevent the issue happening again later on!

    • @HomesteadJay
      @HomesteadJay  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Pat! Yeah thats deff not a bad idea! Thank the lord I walked away cause I was soooo pissed. Once I came back to it I said hey let me check this.... dang buggers!

    • @thesmallwoodlot433
      @thesmallwoodlot433 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@HomesteadJay I know what you mean, I bought a riding lawnmower, brought it home, and they mad a nest within a week! Guess where! The service tech couldn’t find the issue, and wanted to bring it back to his shop, at an additional charge ( warranty work) , then I saw one wasp, we sprayed the muffler, and removed it, he installed a new one, and placed the original in a zip lock bag to take back to the shop for the claim!
      Keep in mind, that this tractor was kept in a garage, and used on a weekly basis, so for your information when a wasp finds a good location for the year, they move in!
