Dela (i Know Why The Dog Howls At Moon)
Lyric
One day I looked up and there you were
Like a simple question looking for an
answer
Now I am a whale listening to some inner call
Swimming blindly to
throw myself upon your shore
What if I don’t find you when I have
landed
Would you leave me here to die
On your shore stranded
I think I
know why the dog howls at the moon
I think I know why the dog howls at the
moon
I sing Dela, Dela ???
Dela when I’m with you
Dela Someday Lord
mamma
Someday Lord I burn for you
I’ve been waiting for you all my
life
Hoping for a miracle
I’ve been day and night
Day and
night
I’ve been waiting for you all my life
Waiting for
redemption
I’ve been waiting day and night
I burn for you
A
blind bird sings inside the cage that is my heart
The image of your face
comes to me when I’m alone in the dark
If I could give a shape to this
ache that I have for you
If I could find the voice that says the words that
capture you
I think I know
I think I know
I think I know
I think I
know
I think I know why the dog howls at the moon
I think I know why
the dog howls at the moon
I sing Dela, Dela ???
Dela when I’m with
you
Dela Someday Lord mamma
Someday Lord I burn for you
I’ve
been waiting for you all my life
Hoping for a miracle
I’ve been waiting
day and night
Day and night
I’ve been waiting for you all my
life
Waiting for redemption
I’ve been waiting day and night
I burn
for you
Someday Lord
Someday Lord mamma
Someday Lord I burn for
you
I’ve been waiting for you all my life
Hoping for a
miracle
I’ve been waiting day and night
Day and night
I’ve been
waiting for all you my life
Waiting for redemption
I’ve been waiting
day and night
I burn for you
Burn for you
I burn for
you
(repeat till end
I was OBSESSED with this movie as a kid. Years and years later, this would be the most memorable song played at my wedding, as my wife surprised me when she had the DJ play this song, I immediately grabbed her and we danced to this song. I’m not a dancing kind of person, and I only danced twice at my wedding. And this wasn’t the song of our first dance, but everytime we’re at a family gathering that isn’t celebrating something else, somebody ALWAYS plays this song for me and my wife to dance to.
Omg that's so beautiful!! I love that for you guys❤
I love this comment too much. Movie was a huge part of my childhood, felt spunky and wanted to hear the song this morning, and this just made me love the song that extra bit more. Definitely downloaded, ready to play at some weddings coming up! All the best to you!! 🥂
great choice. I've been thinking about it for my wedding but not sure if I should include the ape like dancing that George does around the fire.. so far, I'm thinking... Yes
Some day this will be the song that plays in my wedding as well
So cute story 🥰
This was the perfect type of character for Brendan Fraser. It was his goofy innocent persona, silly ways of formulating sentences and joy of helping others that made us all appreciate him so dearly.
It's a shame he went downhill, he had amazing talent back then, Hollywood done him dirty
@@beelzeboss9631 As they always do... He came out with a movie recently, but he's being criticized for not being woke enough.😮💨🙄😒
Encino Man
If you haven't seen it, you should. It stars Sean Astin, Pauly Shore and of course our beloved Brendan Fraser!!!!
@@QuirkyCercleno he’s literally not everyone loves him lol, this idea of woke was invented by right wing assholes looking for another scapegoat
@@unicornmadness6286 Thats a fun film for sure
Let's take the time to recognize and appreciate the man behind this beautiful song, Mr Johnny Clegg...a real South African hero that united South Africa with his music through our darkest times. His light will never die out, it will shine forever...rest in peace Sir💔
Beautifully written...
@A Munro read it again.
YessssMa’am . R.I.H King 👑
I haven’t seen this movie since I was a kid and had no idea this song was in it. Yes, RIP Johnny Clegg, such a loss for us all.
Introduced me to Savuka and Juluka, live in the UK now but a friend used to get in trouble with her father going out to watch them.
Cheers to you Brendan Fraser for winning Best Actor 2023!!
I can't believe it, but the man did his comeback, George of the Jungle style.
I remember watching this movie on VHS every day on repeat when I was a kid.. Nostalgia overload indeed. Such a feel good movie and the soundtrack (including this song) definitely helps with that :)
dude I still have that vhs!
+sarah mckay me too!
+Franky Sanchez your cool dude
+sarah mckay this is also true
+Franky Sanchez lol your funny.
Rest in peace Johnny Clegg. This song was a big part of my childhood.
Me too
George of the jungle
Was straight away with his songs and still
Hard to find nowadays a real artist like him
Same here...
Omg he died??!!! I didn’t know that!! 😞😔
Am I the only one that when I watch this scene and hear the song it makes me happy and depressed at the same time?
Nostalgia overload.
Nope... Its such a sweet film..^-^..want it that way..
ProjectAce You are not alone. It keeps reminding me of how pure this was, innocent and sweet. And that it's very hard to find a person like George, or if you are a pure, loving person hard to find your Ursula..
Evax Nanda It was very pure. I agree with you on how innocent and sweet this whole movie was including the love between them, as they both had their imperfections but they were not depicted like movies nowadays with nonsense drama and super gloomy stuff. Sometimes I avoid watching the movie because it depresses me how hard it really is to find that George or Ursula. I feel worse to remember the ones I've just ended up hurt.
ProjectAce not alone... though it also made me wanna see the movie again :D
Who else is in quarantine listening to this master piece 🙌🔥
I am! This song takes me back to childhood

I love this song so much. I know it's weird but it used to make me cry as a kid when came on during the movie because it made me so happy.
Me too!!! thought it was only me
The care bears 2 forever young still makes me cry
Same
You can’t not smile to it!! And it definitely has that bittersweetness to it which makes you sad and happy all at once!
omg me too!!!!!
I remember growing up with watching this movie a lot. one of the best movies ive ever seen. Its a classic. I'm a guy and these scenes has to be one of the best romantic scenes ever in movies. We need more of this unique, simple heartwarming showcases in movies. Love it.
Yes!!
@@eleanorevery yep, 6 years later and I still feel the same way.
@@AleXelerate8 Just now coming on this thread but I wholeheartedly agree. These type of vibes are sorely missed in movies.
Idk if it’s just because I’ve out outgrown movies or because I’m an adult or if other people feel the same but I feel like movies just don’t hit the same 😩
I think the very same. The beauty of love is from above.
The song becomes more meaningful after Leslie Mann admitted that she fell IN LOVE with Brendan Fraser while filming the movie.
She said the wedding scene was the hardest because of how many takes they did when they were looking at each other and smiling and that’s when she realized it. OMFG MY HEART 😭😭😭
Omfg please tell me this is real
She got married the year this came out. I'm sure she had a crush on him though! Look at him!
@@JBCTBL and Brandon Fraser unfortunately was already married to one of the actresses that played Ursula‘s friend when they were checking him out at the horses ranch in the film. They divorced later and she is currently receiving 900 K in child support payments. Such a greedy lady. I just wish he and Leslie got together because they look perfect for one another.
Hasta yo tengo un crush con él
Where did you read about that now I’m anxious to read about it as well
I watched George of the Jungle when I was 8 and this song stuck in my head! I'm 34 now and I still love this song!
I was 15, born in the 80's raised in the 90's . Good times 🙂 not heard this song in ages, nostalgia 🥰
I'm here because this man won an Oscar, amazing achievement for George
George just lucky I guess.
Brendan Fraser.
Leslie Mann.
Johnny Clegg's voice.
The song.
Its lyrics.
The composition.
The setting.
Fabulous combination.
Thank you.
Brendan Fraser in this film might be the finest looking male specimen of all time, no homo
Callum Docherty As long as you dont look him in the eyes, it's no homo. 😂😂😂
No, he is homo sapien actually.
Goals, hes not huge that its ridiculous but he looks built like a brick shit house.
He looks like a yoga, rock climber guy
Ummmm have you seen Nacho Libre!??
As soon as I heard the news I came straight to this song and cried my eyes out.. some people deserve to live forever. You will be sorely missed. #RIPJohnnyClegg
This is one of my top 5 favorite movie scenes. The song. The carefree dancing and love. I want to go back to the 90s when things were simpler.
My favorite movie scene was actually in George of the Jungle when George has to do the “Biggest swing in jungle history” off a massive cliff to save Ursula.
Time goes by so fast. Remember being a kid thinking life was so amazing. Got older and wish I never grew up
Jesus I love the moment at 3:09 when George stares at Ursula. He's so adorable xD
OMG this movie brings back so many memories. I use to have this movie on VHS. I would watch it over and over again. It was the best movie of all time. And the song goes so well with the movie. Love it
One day.... when I get married.... I want to dance with my husband this song under the moon with him. this is one of my romantic dreams.
Mine too! :D
i wish me that i can my girl this much happy :), and she smiles much much big

Yayyyy! I’m 29 this just made my soul happy rewatching this 😂😂❤️
George of the Jungle made me want to become a stuntman!
fun fact, Brendan was also 29 when he filmed this role
Brother/ sister - I am also 29 … watching this)
Just memories)
This is mine and my wife's wedding song ❤️ 😍 God bless all of you
This is gonna be my wedding song one day
Miss Pang mines too!
RIP Johnny 😟 I'm thankful that this song & movie. Gave you more "mainstream recognition"
Proudly South African 😍 what an icon Johnny Clegg is
This brings back gond emotional old time memories. Never gets old. I remember rewinding this part several times whenever I watched George of the jungle on a Phillips VCR. Indeed, old is gold.
How many women remember the horse scene and him running around with that white open shirt oh my God! It threw me into puberty!
“What is it with chicks and horses?”
His wife was one of the women
Awwww right that is so true even as an old man he still looks good XD
🤗
It was a really sexy scene, and I'm man, but I have to recognize it.
Every musician has many, many influences... for me, there were Collective Soul, the Peter Gabriel, the Phil Collins... bu there is always that one song that hits your heart, mind and spirit that makes you the musician that you are. For me, it's Dela! There's no explanation, but only one can understand that feeling! And for that, I thank Johnny Clegg and hope to see him live one day!!!!

RIP Johnny Clegg South African Legend
Hello
This has stayed in my head for over a decade 😩
Riachi same I feel sad about it
Riachi I think the song are beautiful😍😋😋
Haha, try two. I used to watch this on VHS constantly as a little kid.
Dylan Woodson same
"Madame. I knew Jane Goodall, and YOU are NO Jane Goodall."
i remember that line even after nearly 2 decades so good.
"Georges secrets, there's the shortest book ever written"

@@antonironstag5085 🤣🤣
Had no idea Johnny Clegg and Savuka had songs that were used in movies. You learn something new everyday XD
The Savuka version of Scatterlings of Africa was used in ‘Rain Man’. And surely you know that Johnny Clegg wrote ‘Great Heart’ for Jock of the Bushveld; and both that song and the movie are good old SA classics. ❤️❤️😍
This is the soundtrack to one of my favourite childhood memories; going to see this in the cinema with my Mum. I can still remember the smile on her face after leaving the movie. I wish I could just once more play this song and dance and jump around with her like when I was a kid. I miss you Mum.

RIP johnny clegg you legend. i know he made many meaningful songs, but this is the one i will remember the most.
RIP Johnny Clegg. This song will forever bring me joy, thank you!
I remember watching this as a child and now at 33 I found this kind of love 🥹💕 …& the simple life.
When you grown and realize you have someone that's stares at you like George stares at Ursella. 😍😍
ComeliaO7 when you realize that person hasn’t appeared in your life yet 😂😂😂🤧🤧🤧
Oh I know that feeling, same way my husband looks at me, gets me blushing and giggling like a school girl😂 Just his facial expression, he has the best sense of humor😂❤️
Look at how Ursella looks at George because the actress said she fall in with him during filming so that look in her eyes is real.
I didn't know this song was made specifically for this movie. Now that ROCK'S!!!!
No, it wasn't made specifically for this movie. It was written by the late, great Johnny Clegg and recorded with Savuka circa 1989 for their 1990 album ' Cruel Crazy Beautiful World'. This movie was only released circa 1997, and the song was used in it.
The songs 'Great Heart' ( c1987) and 'December African Rain' (c 1982) which were both written by Clegg, were made specifically for movies: The former for a South African one ' Jock of the Bushveld' which did come about; the latter for another SA movie which didn't, based on Nadine Gordimer's 'The Conservationist'.
@@susanlarhubarbe9475 Thanks google
1:14 A time when Brendan Fraser had it all. So sad what he is going threw right now. I hope he makes a come back. He’s awesome!
He’s making a great comeback! ❤️
I burn for you has been alway here even before brigerton 😭🥰😍..I was absolutely obsessed with This film 🤭💕
All of Johnny Clegg's songs are legendary but Dela just has the unique vibe to it that is so addictive! RIP Johnny we miss you
❤❤ I miss my childhood
Dela Dela, the real George achieved an Oscar. Congrats, Brendan Fraser. What a comeback.
I am proud to be a South African
Felicidades Brendan te quiero mucho, bien merecido el Oscar
I don't think it is weird at all. It is one of the most beautiful love songs of all times. The fact that it has a happy tune only adds to its appeal. It is extremely difficult to sit still when it is being played. It always makes me want to jump up and dance. Your wedding guests will most surely do the same. Best of luck.
Love this song and this movie so much that I convinced my husband to dance with me to this, it’s our wedding song ❤️

This song was originally released in 1989 but most of us consider it a 90's song thanks to George Of The Music. Just a masterpiece!

I remember watching this movie ALL THE TIME when I was younger! I still LOVE it! And I love this song too! I used to dance around like Ursula does by the fire all the time!
Love this. The song popped into my head randomly so had to find it
The most beautiful form of pain: nostalgia❤
Met this girl a couple weeks ago, by random chance we had met for a day 12 years ago. We didn't remember at first but something seemed familiar. When we found out she sent me this song, and it sent a spear through my heart.
May his soul Rest In Peace, it’s a nice masterpiece from him.
Yes I know why the dog howls at the moon. Beautiful love song!
Lmao I remember watching this movie when I was a kid.. Confused how they know Zulu language.. Just found out now it's a song by the late John Clegg.. What a hero. Rest in peace White Zulu
Bro this song gives me nostalgia. I owned this film on VHS. Omg
My biggest regret is not remembering this song when I got married. I forgot about it while planning my wedding...it would've fit perfectly 😔
Yeah when I get married this will be the song that plays when they announce us as husband and wife.

RIP Johnny. Thanks for be in my childhood. George of the jungle.
part of the movie that made my childhood, wow can't believe it's been this long already 😔
This movie is one of a kind! It’s so funny and ridiculous but so heartwarming and their connection is just real 💓If they made it now it would be all animation and you wouldn’t get this standard of silliness or this kind of song! It was perfectly cast and I’m just so happy it exists, and that I was a kid growing up with this but also to revisit it as a 20-year-old and realise its so much more than I knew back then! It really is a lost gem, there’s no way my kids aren’t growing up with this!!😍 And this song makes me so happy and you can’t not move to it!! Their love and happiness and little dance moves😂💕
The stunts were so good in George of the Jungle.
This song is OG! 💯
Childhood memories priceless I was 8 when I first saw this film maybe younger now I'm 30 lol where has time gone anyway what a film shout out Brendan Fraser 👊👊👊
The word Dela is a Zulu word that means, "total recognition of my heart's home"
