Hey guys! I just wanted to address a frequent complaint regarding ads on my videos. As far as I can tell, and if you know otherwise PLEASE LET ME KNOW, I have no control over the ads shown once the video has been made ineligible for monetization due to a copyright claim (which ALL of my "Story of's" have). This means I cannot change or remove the ads in any way and I receive none of the revenue for the video. I'm okay not getting the revenue, but it seems TH-cam or the copyright holder is going out of control with the ads and placing them every few minutes or so in my videos. If there is away around this, I have yet to find it. Anyway, I just wanted to clear that up. As always, thanks for watching!
Hey Layton✌🏻 It’s a shame that some of your vids were made nearly unwatchable through the ads. Especially Jaws2😭 a masterclass work of review. I hope Psycho ll will be left alone. Placing ads before and after a video ist totally fine, I do that too. But I have the luck that the copyright owners don’t place ads in my shortfilms. They only get half the money of it. @@MichiMinusOne So you do have a budget? It's not that expensive man. My sympanthoy if you feel that 11.99 per month is too much. I would pay double that for the experience I have with youtube. The no ads and youtube playing music and videos on my phone with my phone locked make it well worth it IMO.
The fact that Scheider wanted nothing to do with this and yet you see not a trace of his displeasure in his performance shows you what a true professional he is and why he is one of my favorite characters actors of all time.
I've always felt the same way. A testimony to the professionalism that he had as an actor. He didn't want to do it, but it was his job and his duty to his job was to put on the best performance that he could. I was very impressed with what he did here. I think he was able to take the anger that he had towards the studio, and project it into his character thus making his performance all the better

AND raised his salary to do it, so Again, he wasn’t that mad, considering A. He got paid more B. He was the one who screwed up by disagreeing with the director of deer hunter and turning it down
@@theitfactorjameswheezer2852 - what I'm getting at is that if it would have been a simple matter of, "hey, do you want to do the sequel?" I'm pretty sure that Roy would have turned them down. I do know that Roy really enjoyed working with Murray Hamilton. The two were friends.
So I think in a way we're both right.
I think I'm right in the fact that he begrudgingly accepted the role because of circumstances, but I think that you're right that once he got into the role that he probably made the most of it. I do know that he enjoyed working with Murray, as he said as much. I also know that he enjoyed working with Lorraine Gary.

I think one aspect of Jaws 2 that gets often overlooked is the intensity of Roy Scheider's performance, which I feel really captures that true sense of PTSD. The foreboding atmosphere of scenes when he is examining the dead killer whale, when he discovers the burnt body, how he augments his bullets with cyanide, his unwavering terror/determination to never "go through that hell again!" And I love that it's the polar opposite of Quint in the first film, who was pretty much half-crazed and on that restrained sense of Ahab-esque mania... he was mostly just a colorful asshole, but when he'd explode, you didn't want to be near it. With Brody, it has that everyman kind of feel to it, and partially because after only a couple of years, it's still a fresh trauma for him, and he does have a few quiet moments of introspection where you just know from his face that he's aware of how crazy he must look and might even be becoming... when Sean helps him pick up the spent casings and looks at his Man of the Year award, that's the face of a man who is asking himself, "Have I actually gone too far?" Of course, this only adds to the frustration of nobody listening to him... even his son Michael, who actually encountered the shark in the first film and was nearly attacked had he not passed out from shock; that Hendricks and his wife are the only ones who seem to understand what he's going through is both compelling and ridiculously irritating, but that's a fault of the writing. In terms of the character, despite Scheider's protestations and dislike for the experience, he certainly did give a really nuanced performance.
Or maybe I'm just a big Roy Scheider fan, which I freely admit, but I do feel that his performance in this movie deserves more respect than it receives... and I know it is considered one of the movie's strong points, but anyway. :)

I read that he really didn't want to be in the sequel, but he'd contracted for it and was obligated. Still turned in a fine performance, though.

Funk O'Matic 3 proved that before 4. 4 had clips of the first film so they could have Roy Scheider in the film in some way, yet it just made me wish I was watching 1.

Something to think about! Those puppets always almost kill someone? Because it 500+ pounds of material.. just saying if we need to fix it we need to fix it CGI is a lazy excuse..
At last,somebody saying just what we are all thinking,f*co going into a blue or green room and fighting nothing,plus using the open sea instead of a giant bathtub is a plus,watch the perfect storm the other day and it was obvious that it was filmed in a tank,laughable.

To this day my ears are still recovering from watching this in 1978 and listening to Jackie scream non stop.
That's something that always pops into my mind when I think about this movie too, LOL! How much that girl screamed, I can even see the expression on her face right now.

First time seeing any jaws movie was Jaws AND Jaws 2 as a double feature in the theater. That was quite a day!

I always liked Jaws 2! It has the same look and feel of the first one like they were shot at the same time.
i enjoyed it too, I did miss Dreyfuss greatly though!
I always found it jarringly different in tone. Jaws has a gloomy East Coast feel, Jaws 2 was mostly filmed in Florida. It felt like a TV movie compared to the first one. It looked far cheaper, though its a sequel better than it should be.

@@petawest6505 I felt the same. As someone who is from Florida, I can always spot the difference in scenery which bugs me. The water is way too blue for the Atlantic coast. Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket, where the first film was shot, which represents Amity island in the film are islands lying to the south of the Cape, in the Atlantic have dark, every waters. It's murky looking and you can't see anything around you since the water isn't crystal clear. Navarre beach on the other hand, where they filmed the beach scenes for this film is on the gulf coast of Florida, near Pensacola. The gulf coast is more blue and tropical looking than the Atlantic side. Unless the waters have been churned by a hurricane or other storm, the waters are clear and you can see things around you. which takes away from the empty eery feeling, and sense of dread that the first movie had. Honestly, they could've shot on the Atlantic coast around Daytona beach and it would've looked much better and more authentic. Plus they have lighthouses there, so there would've been no need to build one.
I love Jaws 2 but what I never understood was when the lady who was examining the dead killer whale on the beach told chief Brody “ what makes you think there’s one in these waters.” Why didn’t he just say “ BECAUSE THERE WAS ONE 4 YEARS AGO AND IT KILLED SOME PEOPLE HERE” Did anyone else ever notice that mistake?

Jaws 2 was the most “Spielbergish” non-Spielberg film I’ve ever seen. If I didn’t know Jeannot Szwarc directed it, I would’ve sworn it was a Spielberg film. It REALLY had his flavor all the way through, especially with John Williams once again doing the score. One of my favorite sequels ever!

It's got real Speilbergian visual flair. In places, the water shots are as good as the original. I think the story delivery is weak, shark-as-slasher tropes fed into a forced remake of American Graffiti where the kids use sunfish instead of hot rods.
The yellow barrels outside Cheif’s house, now being used as planters are a lovely touch.

I don't know. It's always struck me as illogical fan-service. Those barrels would represent some very traumatic stuff for Brody. Yeah they helped him and Hooper back to shore but the PTSD from seeing Quint eaten and himself nearly being killed at that same time would be huge. I just find it a tough sell that he'd want to keep them outside his house as a constant reminder and souvenir of those awful things.

@@mrfarkyhars9192 That's a fair enough interpretation. But I think one of Brody's main appeals as a character is his vulnerability. In the first film, he's a guy who's scared of the water and someone who will choose to drink away any hurt he's feeling (e.g. after the kid is killed). It's established that things stress him out quite easily and he clearly feels pain and anguish - that's why he's the main character and works as the everyman of the story. A person like Hooper or Quint having those barrels outside their home after the event would be fine in theory but I just feel it's something the filmmakers put in as a wink to the audience (like The Orca at the start of the movie) without any real thought as to the actual logic of it... or, to put it another way, a piece of lazy fan-service and an early example of the kind of thing that plagues modern-day sequels and spin-offs.

the mechanical shark in the first jaws movies still looks more realistic than the cgi crap sharks used now .
I would argue that if the shark in the original was replaced by a sock puppet, that movie would still be a terrifying masterpiece.

I agree to a point, the shark in the Shallows looked pretty real in most of the film. But just my perspective in my honest opinion.

Personally, I think the jerky and sort of "mechanical" movements of the animatronic shark in Jaws made wonders for the overall presentation of the film. While perhaps the shark in The Shallows may look more realistic in an anatomical light, but that kind of makes me unable to hold my suspension of disbelief that much for the movie since I know a great white shark like the one in The Shallows wouldn't even care at eating that one gal. However, in Jaws the shark has several anatomical differences from the real animal that makes you that it ain't no normal shark, not much of a shark as it is a monster, a monster that looks out for human prey with its gigantic size and overall "real" presence in the movie since I can see it is there and is not a CGI creature. However, The Shallows is a good movie, just not half as good as Jaws and Jaws 2 by any means in my opinion
There wasn’t a strong current for most of the scenes as it was filmed in a bay right in front of my house where there was no current at all ever. I sat on our dock and watched the helicopter scene, lots of the sailing, and the final barge was parked right in front of our house. My mom got mad because the film barge had people yelling through a bullhorn and they would use bad language! Had friends that were extras. Was so fun watching them.

The thing I never understood about part 2 was how the town treated Brody like the town loon after his experience in the first movie. It's like they all forgot about what went down. Like the lady with the Orca when she said "what makes you think there's a shark like that in these waters?" I wanted Brody to say "Bitch, I just killed a Giant Great White that was killing people left and right not too long ago"!
That is why unless a movie NEEDS a sequel you don’t make one

The events of the first movie mention repeatedly how rare the situation was, almost unprecedented. So a second shark? Logically doubtful. Also, remember that in the first movie, the only people who saw what happened with the shark are Brody, Quint, and Hooper. Quint's gone, Hooper was hiding during the final fight, maybe didn't see the shark actually die. So that leaves only Brody's word that he killed the shark, and Hooper confirming they hunted it down at all. Maybe the council was pressing Brody to admit he didn't kill the shark, and now it was back to kill again to prove he was a liar. Maybe the town kept the situation as quiet as possible after news assumed the shark was caught, so that lady with the Orca had never heard of the situation.
I love Jaws 2. Obviously nowhere near the original, but really a fun film!

I hate that they deleted the scene where mayor Vaughn votes against firing Brody
Because if you look at the scene where Brody confronts to Town Council with the picture of the shark the mayor is unusually soft-spoken and hesitant
His behavior makes a lot more sense with that deleted scene he did learn to trust Brody and he was trying to help Brody he might have saved his job if Brody didn't show up
It completes Vaughn's story arc from windbag to actual friend
Their is also a rare scene .. of the shark attacking the whale . I saw it the 80's on a regular tv broadcast .

@Daniel McMillon I believe the Orca 1 , which was on the Universal back lot , broke in half when it sank on the lot . Would be interesting to know where the people got the pieces from to restore ?
@Daniel McMillon Yes the Orca sadly broke into pieces on the back lot , and think was trashed . The Orca 2 they used for sinking at the end of the movie , was left to the town where they filmed . And also has rotted away . That would be cool if they are making a replica

Eddy's scene was horrible
I have to give Roy Scheider credit. It is a well known fact that he hated working on this movie and really got into it with the director. But when you watch the film, you can see that he was still giving it his all. So props to him for still being a pro in front of the camera.
Roy had his choice between Michael DeNiro's role in The Deer Hunter, Roy didn't like The Deer Hunter movie script (after agreeing to star the main role & then quit a day before filming) so he went with doing this garbage sequel and the rest is history as to which movie was the better choice for his lacking & fading movie career. He gave it his all in the original Jaws, The 7Ups & Sorcerer. His other movies not so much imo.

The music and her shouting at Eddie to swim is operatic genius. Jaws 2 was the first Jaws movie I saw. We had it on VHS and my family and I connected to it because the cast was young. I saw the first film many years later but it's only today do I realise that it's a film made for middle-aged men.
As a youth I loved Jaws 2 as much as the original- it was as big and exciting.
Better than the original
The theme during the 'End Credits' is one of John Williams' best compositions imo.
As far fetched as this is, it's still one of the best sequels, which plays it absolutely straight throughout. As a kid I loved it, and as an adult who works within the physical sfx movie industry I am in awe of the technicians who built all the sharks in these films.
I remember seeing Jaws 2 on T.V way more than the original as a kid. Love it.
The prequel with a young Quint would have been cool.
U.S.S. Indianapolis incident. I could see the teaser using Quint's Indy speech as a monologue, showing the Bomb, sharks attacking. Talk about one uncomfortable trailer!

You bet! I mean Quint's monologue was a movie in itself, a prequel would have been a whole lot better than Jaws 2 through The Revenge.
Personally I find the idea of an economically struggling "ghost town" version of Amity based on the events of the first film fascinating

I really wish they would have kept the underwater portion of the helicopter scene where the shark pulls the copter under and they actually show the shark eating the pilot under the water.

Yeah the way I see it is the same with Jurassic park and it’s sequel the lost world not as a good as the first film but definitely still a good watch
True story: Director Hancock was clearly given the shaft by everyone once they decided his vision was not fit for their changing tastes. He was highly recommended by Spielberg (who even contributed to the shark fin rising in the night harbor scene) but Hancock was bullied by Loraine Gary’s husband Sid Seinberg (quite frankly, a world class jerk who got so easily offended when things didn’t go his way) and producer David brown.
In short, The two moguls were having constant feuds throughout the production over story changes/ideas, basically making Hancock their whipping boy by ordering him to adhere to both of their differing changes simultaneously (essentially caught between company politics and childish bickering).
Hancock knew Seinberg was mean spirited and so naturally Hancock sided with Zanuck and brown whom he felt were way more professional, only to be unprofessionally canned by the same producing duo in the most unprofessional way imaginable. On top of this, decades later (in the 2001 dvd making of feature) both Zanuck and brown refused to take any responsibility for their inappropriate actions, simply stating ‘Hancock was not equipped to handle this type of picture.’ and brushed over the remaining details.
I for one lost respect for Zanuck/brown after hearing this. I think the Hancock version of ‘Jaws II’ would have been brilliant and way more original/unpredictable than what we ended up with.

Actually, writer Howard Sackler suggested John D. Hancock to direct "JAWS 2" based on his story (NOT the Indianapolis prequel idea), but both he and his wife Dorothy Tristan (R.I.P.) didn't like the original story and rewrote it, before they were both replaced
by Jeannot Szwarc and "JAWS" co-writer Carl Gottlieb.
Damn, just watched this for the first time. WAY better than it had any right to be. Saw a little too much of the shark, but all in all a great movie. Side note: I was buddies with the guy who played Eddie, he used to call himself 'Jaws 2 Eddie." Sadly, he passed away a few years ago.

Roy's performance and the way the film develops Brody is the reason why Jaws 2 is good, aside from a few decent moments. Awesome video.
Agreed mate. Apparently he took some persuading, but agreed in the end. Just as well, or it would have been as crap as three and four... ;-)

He pulled out of Deer Hunter before the cameras started rolling due to creative differences and to forgive him for his drop-out, Universal offered him an attractive financial salary and would consider his 3 film contract fulfilled if he did Jaws 2. Which he did cause Roy wanted out of his deal. I believe he has regretted his decision to pull out of Deer Hunter as the years went by, never the less he pledged to make Brody as believable as possible.

I found Tina screaming "SHHAAAARK" horrifying when I first saw the movie. Nothing wrong with it.
Agreed, that was an odd choice editing choice by Layton. Seemed like genuine trauma to me.
It's brilliant. The pivotal turning point in the movie that definitively validates Brody's suspicions.

This was a very informative and well-made overview of the film and production. Looking forward to watching more of them. Also, I own the Jaws 2 paperback - it is quite a bit different from the movie. The shark births its pups while being electrocuted, if i am remembering it right.

I always really, really liked Jaws II. As a matter of fact, when I was a kid I thought it was Spielberg who directed it as well! I remember that my father had it on VHS straight after the first Jaws, and we used to watch them both in a long session.
It's obvious that the woman in the boat meant to throw the fuel at the shark, but accidentally stumbled and drenched herself in it instead. When she fired the flare gun at the shark it caught her on fire as well.
When Brody hit the electrical cable with the oar he made sure that he was facing the shark. If it'd somehow learnt the technique of outflanking someone he would've just moved to face the shark again.
Although the next two Jaws movies were total crap, I still think there's definite room for a really great Jaws movie, one that's based on the USS Indianapolis. With today's technology and a good script they could make it very atmospheric and gritty.
Oh, and I just LOVE the music that's played at the end as Brody is rowing the dinghy and the camera pans upwards to the setting sun...
Jaws 2 survived because it had Brody and the actor that played him was taking no s*** and was never going to allow them to produce any kind of c***,, He never wanted any part of the 2nd movie either it was only when they paid him vast amounts of cash he took it up, plus it was partly a favour for walking out another project. Jaws 3 and 4 the actors were cheap signings and would have been on board with anything.... jaws 4 ffs.
Yeah I remember watching this on VHS, recorded from tv. Dad always missed starting recording the beginning of films, so all movies I grew up with was missing a minute or so in the beginning, haha! At that age I enjoyed this more than the original because I didn't understand atmosphere, slow build up & nuances yet. Scared me so much! Also Doug was hot!

Plus, this was 1978, and she was undoubtedly encased head-to-toe in polyester.

As an 8 year old kid this was my favourite movie; I watched it time and time again. I thought it was much more exciting and gory than Jaws. My dad has a massive VHS library and along with films like The Lost Boys, Predator, Robocop and The Running Man my lust for cinema was set in cement...
yea for kids and teenagers, Jaws 2 was always the favorite.
More gory? Haha what are you talking about? There’s zero gore in Jaws 2. The original had severed legs and much more gore. So much so I have no idea how they got away with a pg 13 rating

The only blood shown was Eddies after Tina looked down over the side of the boat after Eddie smashed into it.
I have always thought about the therapy that poor kid would have to go through after watching Marge get eaten. Thankfully, he was himself eaten in the classic that is Jaws 4 ending his mental suffering.

I think Talking The Talk was pretty much saying because 3 & 4 sucked so bad they're refusing to acknowledge their existence... not that they actually didn't exist.
I love 'Jaws 2'. I think that John Williams' score for this film surpasses his work on the original. It's much more orchestral and, obviously retaining the shark motif, has more scope.
I also believe that it is because Williams returned, that helps this sequel tower above the other two pieces of shit.
Oh, and incidentally, Eddie's death from this film, for me, is the most horrific and terrifying death in ALL of the Jaws films.
I agree with your comment on the score, but Marge's death scene is iconic.
I love that line. None of man's fantasies of evil can compare to the reality of Jaws.

It would have been hilarious if that cable junction set managed to break off in the night and drift away without anyone noticing. Imagine being on a ship in the middle of the Pacific surrounded by nothing but water for thousands of miles and you come across a tiny rocky island with a power supply station on it.

@@jonnyshanon2103 there was a movie about the USS indianapolis recently with Nick Cage but it sucked. Very bad production. I remember in the 90s it was mentioned that they wanted to do a prequel/USS Indianapolis with Russel Crowe as a young Quint directed by Spielberg and Dreyfus and Scheider would have played parts in it. Would have been something.

Loved this. I cant imagine the amount of time it takes you to put a video like this together. I remember being 8 in the summer of 1978 and going to see this with my family. I was only 8 so easily impressed but remember how disappointed my parents were and calling the movie dumb especially for the ending. The thing that made Jaws work was the psychological fear of not even seeing the shark. Part 2 much of that is gone and we see too much of this fake looking shark.

The part where Brody gets a piece of wood from the surf and the burnt-up remains of the blonde lady tumbled at him was as good a jump scare as the guy's head popping out of the boat bottom from the first movie.

Jaws 2 has grown on me every time I've watched it. I remember hating it the first time I watched it, but I've come to appreciate it as one of the best shark movies out there. The drop off in quality has more to do with the original being a masterpiece than Jaws 2 being a terrible film. It's much better than the other two sequels or the many Jaws ripoffs that have been made over the years.

I find that it is a magnificent picture. Beautiful music, filled with tension untill the bitter end, a great contrast between the joy of a summer holiday and the horror of the shark attacks. On top of that the multiple stories (mayor, Brodie's private troubles, shark) and the wonderful camera-work. Excellent job!

Part 3 I can live with and part 4 was just horrible.but part 2 is not by far the worst sequel I've ever seen.if you look at the time it was made it wasn't that bad.even without all the computer crap they put in movies today most of the sequels are junk.so with out that crap part 2 when you look at it really wasn't that bad.
@@cjsnedegar834 I dunno, I saw it in the theater first run in 1978, and even at the age of 14 I knew it was a rushed, cinematic money grab and generally a TV movie slapped onto the big screen. In artistic terms, the original needed no sequel whatsoever.

@@Jared_Wignall Well, everyone's entitled to his opinion; personally, I found Jaws 2 pale, badly paced with mainly bland characters (with the exception of Roy Schieder), not to mention a ridiculously "underdeveloped" shark. To perhaps put it in a little perspective, I feel the same way about Rocky II.

@@LaytonEversaul Indeed! I was unfamiliar with just how desperate Roy Scheider was in getting out of the film to be honest. I had always heard he was "reluctant", but your doc shed some light on just how "Reluctant" he was. lol
I know it would have been veering off the point of the documentary, but was there any info you would mind sharing regarding the 2 failed proposals for JAWS 2 briefly mentioned in your great retrospective, as well as the one accompanying the official JAWS 2 release? I've always had an interest for the "what might have been". I understand Arthur C Clarke's take really dove into going a more sci fi route, but that's about all I know.
The first is a classic, but I love the second also the jell together and feel right to me , I think it's a fine follow up, getting the important members of original cast back and John Williams more ellabotate score to suit the action of events and way they continually play out is fantastic. From first seeing it as young teen I've always enjoyed it. I can't say the same for the last two films but even a great sequel is enough to be happy about.
Jaws is a good trilogy. The first is a classic, the second is okay, and the third is schlocky fun. Who doesn't like the idea of Jaws in Sea World
The 3D was excellent on Jaws 3, it helped with the bad compositing in some of those effects shots because what you were looking at was floating in front of your face. The handful of 3D films from that era were all pretty well done, Friday 13th 3 being the best of the bunch which sadly Paramount never released in proper 3D on Blu Ray but in theatres back in the day it was a treat. I think the Jaws franchise saw the biggest crash in sequel quality of any franchise, 2 only worked as well as it did because it kept the location (and musical) flavour of the original despite lacking the depth of it. 3 and 4 were only watchable for badness value and I'm Ok with that.

@@gvidovaldmanis6377 Yeh, I saw it in the cinema when it first came out and I really enjoyed it. I actually saw it before I saw Jaws due to my age back then so I had no expectations. My mum asked me what happened in it and I giggled and said "The shark ate a helicopter!"

Enjoyed this documentary. I happened to watch the movie a couple of days ago, so it's great to hear the story behind the movie.
And yet after all the calamity of trying to get a sequel off the ground still produced one of the best sequels to a classic.

@@scottlowell493 They both had a strange fondness for directors who turned out to be sex offenders too. Maybe if Jeannot Szwarc had been a sicko like Woody Allen and Roman Polanski, they'd have liked the movie better.
As much as I love the two for how they innovated Film Critiques. They were not perfect themselves, especially Ebert who while is one of the best at giving in-depth critiques of how the films affect a viewer, he also really never could make up his mind when time would favor a film and would occasionally change his verdicts due to the popularity.
I mean at the end of the day every film critic are the least main reason you should see a film and really should only be taken seriously to read how they interpret the film so as you can see the effects of the films itself in media.

This was an outstanding overview of the many aspects of the making of Jaws 2. It was truly enjoyable. Roy Schieder the main character in this sequel is the reason the movie grossed over 200 million. The fun facts you provided were entertaining. Jaws was riddled with so many issues with the mechanical, papier mâché shark that John Williams score was relied upon to create consistent suspense, a level of anxiety and overall thrill for the audience. He provided an outstanding body of music for the sequel also. Thank you for taking the time to make this retrospective.

The 4K physical of this movie is honesty amazing. Like watching the film again for the first time.
A fantastic movie...and for me at 10 years old in the theatre..you can imagine my excitement.I especially love the musical score,something that is totally lost in todays movies shot with an iphone...lol.
Plot twist: Brody screaming and firing his gun on the Beach was just Scheider trying to act crazy to get out of the Movie 😂😂
It's still an utterly brilliant film and head and shoulders above most other works in the genre.

I could never stand this movie but the more I watch it; the more I appreciate what they did with the main characters, and what a hard movie this was to make. I'm really appreciating the direction that they decided to take it, when you think about it. Setting the story back in Amity and going with the story of Brody suffering PTSD and wondering if he was falling apart while the shark is quietly making it's impact was really playing to the strengths of the situation of having only those actors returning. The first half of the movie holds up really well nowadays as a story and allows the main characters to show and emote what they are going through rather than having them tell it with tons of dialogue. And the developer on the town counsel "Len" is such a well played realistic villain -even worse than the shark, and another small aspect of the movie that makes it hold up really well. Throwing in a teen slasher movie element was one way of trying to solve the problem. A tough movie to make and lots of script ideas from the writers that I sure would like to have seen in an alternate universe lol. Thanks for posting this!

How did you grow up with Jaws if you were born in 82??? Jaws was released 20 June 1975; Jaws 2, 16 June 1978; Jaws 3-D, 22 July 1983 & Jaws: The Revenge, 17 July 1987. You weren't alive for 2 of the releases & you were 1 year old for one of them & 5 years old for the other. No way you saw these when they were in theaters. I suppose you could've seen them on tv every once in a while but that's not "growing up" with them. I was born in 63 & I remember growing up with Jaws.

Whenever I'm crippled with depression I watch jaws 1 and 2. They cheer me up and are my fave 'feel good' movies. What a weird chap i am. The peter benchley book is pretty dark and gives a much more in depth view of the characters of Amity. Well worth a read but be prepared to always see the film in a different light afterwards.

We'd just got a VCR and Jaws 2 was one of the first movies we recorded from the TV. For months, every day after school I'd get home and watch Jaws 2. Conservatively, I must've seen it at least 150 times. I knew the script by heart. I've even read the novel adaptation. I loves me some Jaws 2 and will often wind folks up by insisting it's better than the original. It's not, of course, but I honestly love it, far more than anyone in it probably did.
Can't help but laugh nowadays at everybody's skepticism about there being a great white shark off Martha's Vineyard...

The soundtrack with the finale at around 5:57 was pure Williams - absolute masterclass.
Very classy review! Although I personally hoped to see more info on the Hancock version, particularly the twist involving QUINT’’S SON (!!!) coming to Amity to collect his father’s reward money from the first film.
The son in question was all set up to be played by the actor who ended up playing Bob Burnsides in the final product (all the info concerning this is found in the 2015 published fan book ‘Jaws 2: the making of the Hollywood sequel’-the actor goes on to confirm this original plan, right down to him growing out his sideburns and whistling the same ‘farewell and adieu to you fair Spanish ladies’ diddy tune made famous by Robert Shaw in the original classic).
This concept was mysteriously dropped when Hancock was let go from the project and in my opinion would’ve made a cool concept for a future sequel.
The Quint Prequel is a neat idea, but also one you'd want to be careful about how it plays out, so his speech is still just as impactful, if not more so
It sounds like they killed a few really good ideas in favor of a weak retread of the original plot, which should surprise no one.

I had no idea what so ever until I read about the film on Wikipedia 12 years ago and I was taking aback when I read that they would get into fights verbal and once and yet you don't see any of tension whatever in Scheider's performance he still acts like Chief Brody and I liked that this one showed more of his family, fantastic actor I was gutted when I heard he passed away in 2008 RIP to a great actor 💙

All i'm going to say is this... if Jaws 2 was released in 1975 as the original, i'm convinced it would have been a huge commercial success. It can't compare to the original purely because the original was so groundbreaking. It's still a great standalone flick.
