Divinity Original Sin 2 was my first CRPG, and I absolutely adore Borislav Slavov's composition for it! Hands down a must play for all fantasy rpg fans!
Divinity Original Sin 1 was my first CRPG, and thus I've had the opportunity to see Larian improve with each of their titles as an inependent studio. They've come so far, and I can't wait to see what they get up to after BG3.
I sure hope you'll take a listen to the main theme on this channel. It's glorious in both the somber mood, the cold, mystical etherealness, and the vocals... man, the vocalisation.
In the memory of Kirill Pokrovsky. DoS 2 OST is simply gorgeous. I loved this game a lot. I'm glad it was made this well, I'm glad I was able to play and finish it.
The part at 1:27 really sells the whole setting out across the ocean on the Lady Vengeance! The whole song gives me Lord of the Rings Shire, but nautical vibes😆🌊🌊🌊
Excellent game and Soundtrack. Borislav delivers as always! Also, don't worry Marco a bunch of my friends could never get out of Act 1 so you are not alone. Oh and cool tidbit one of the songs from DOS2 is playable by the Bard in BG3!
There are actually three songs that are available to the bards to play in BG3 if you have Deluxe Edition: "The Queen's High Seas", "Of Divinity and Sin", and, of course, "Sing for Me" Maybe there's more, but I definitely remember those
@@mr_jyggalag oh Nice! I haven't played Bard yet, my friend just plays "Of Divinity and Sin" in battle all the time and that is the DOS2 main theme (don't think it is named in ost to my knowledge). So I knew there was at least one.
While I do love Slavov's work on this game and bg3 I do miss Prokovsky's music from the first game. It was very whimsical. Sadly he passed away though at the same time Slavov's work is great for this game in particular as Original Sin's sequel is more serious, darker and action focused Rally cements the idea that you are on an adventure.
I would argue that the emotion created by the first melody is more of a quiet longing than just peacefulness. Combined with the more exciting 2nd and 3rd melodies, it creates for me a kind of Wanderlust, a longing for distant places and exciting travel adventures, which seems to be fulfilled by the most epic part of the song before almost resolving and then hinting at danger at the end.
One of my favorite RPGs that helped me to look at CRPGs in a new way. The verticality, the ability to interact with the environment and yes, the high level of immersion in which the OST played a really big part. It was a joy.
I adore this song. I think its my favorite in D:OS2. I just put it on repeat and chill as I do housework. There's a number of really good songs in the OST that have vocals, specifically the Main Theme and Sing for Me (Lohse's Version).
I love the emotional nuance and ambiguity that is in so many of Borislav's best tracks. There's reflection, melancholy, wonder, calm, hope, and resolve all through this piece, and it all blends smoothly, without ever feeling disjointed. Conveying a whole state of mind in a way, rather than just one simple idea.
Rivellon is also placed very aptly in the game, it's in the narrative phase when you FINALLY escape prison island and the big wide world opens up for you, but you're not really free because war is coming, so it's this mix of grandiosity and weariness and hope and incertainty. Edit, I believe this plays not when you escape on the ship, but later, when you reach land.
Such a beautiful composition that evokes a spectrum of feelings inside me from a subtle melancholy, adventure, tension, excitement and conviction and finally a melancholic peace.
While BG3 surpasses D:OS2 in many things (which is understandable!) and while I love its soundtrack, I still feel like the music in D:OS2 is better and overall feels like Slavov's magnum opus. There are so many great tracks and the interchangeable arrangements for different instruments are such a lovely thing to have in a game. But maybe it's just nostalgia glasses, I loved this game.
I can't help but agree; the music in BG3 is so fantastic, but I still find myself missing some of the, I dunno, catchier themes such as this one while wandering around (I'm finishing up Act 3 in BG3 still!). To be fair, even though both games have your teams on that thin line between safety and danger at all time, especially on first playthroughs when you don't know where to go or what to do in what order, the free-roam countryside by Driftwood fits this style of music so so well, whereas the cinematic moments of BG3 have some of the best pieces so far, such as Nightsong. Going to be listening to both OSTs for a very long time.
This song is so great and really brings back memories. Whenever this would come on, I would often stop what I was doing in-game and just listen - which I was rarely doing with any other track in this game (unless I was hearing it for the first time).
I honestly haven't even beaten the first area of DOS2. I didn't really get CRPGs at the time, and when I came back to the series later I decided to start from the beginning (divine divinity is massively underrated btw). But my memory of just those first couple hours remains one of my most treasured gaming experiences ever- it left an incredible impression, and the main theme makes me teary to this day. There's a real sense of magic to the experience, something that's incredibly hard to capture.
this is one of my favourite pieces of video game music, every time i hear it makes me want to play the game again, and i catch myself humming it for hours after :D I'd love to see you listen to the main theme
The way the strings works, Rivellon kind of vaguely reminds me of the island like vibes in Chrono Cross. The flutes are my favorite part though in the piece. Lohse's song at the end of the game is my favorite piece in the entire OST. It doesn't hit quite as hard until you go through the entire journey with her. Incredible game. Incredible music.
Huh, interesting timing! I've just recently started a co-op playthrough with a friend of mine, about 25 hours in. I do really like a lot of the soundtrack, it's not a surprise BG3's OST turned out so amazing.
I think you would love "The Power" (Orchestral version) and "I Want to Live" (Classical version) from Baldur's Gate 3. Those songs are very similar to this one and so peaceful to listen to.
I would love to see you react to more DOS2. Dancing with Source is haunting and makes you want to check over your shoulder (Oud is my preferred version), Sing For Me is set beautifully in the story (Lohse comes out victorious against the BBEG for her story and starts singing this), Mead, Gold, and Blood is makes you tense up for a fight, knowing you're strong but it's going to be close.
you should at some point make a video on the Devinity 2: main Theme, Sins and gods - Revelation and or Mead, gold and Blood - Ifan's Theme. anyway, always neat to see a video from you!
Hi, Marco! OST from original Divine Divinity is good too. Just listen "Drunk with Dwarven Mirth" or "The Flags Of Freedom Fly High". P.s. In the good memory of Kirill Pokrovsky.
Straight up one of the best pieces of music ever composed!!!! Then again i have fond memories of the Game. Divinity: original sin 1 had a lot of amazing music too, i forgot the composers name, but he did pass away shortly after release i think.
Nobody ever talks about the bonus track to divinity original sin 2, which is a version of divines lament with vocals sung by borislav himself, the lyrics are incredible
Ah DOS2. Love the game but never managed to finish it cause its just so damn long and really punishes you for not knowing your shit later into the game. The music is incredible, especially with its pick an instrument gimmick. Ifan's theme is my favorite. Ifan in general is my favorite. His story is just so well told.
Divinity Original Sin 2 is beautiful. Maybe it's a little more tough to get into, but it's a great experience. There are many good music pieces, and Borislav Slavov, as always, did a great job, and "Sing for me" would live rent-free in my heart and head for all eternity.
Divinity Original Sin 2 has one of the best fantasy soundtracks, people just don't talk about it much for some reason. There is even a song that the composer sang himself. Also I'm sure some BG3 tracks have little callbacks to DOS2 (and maybe DOS1) songs.
For me, the music made the game even better, it was the cherry on top of a big DELICIOUS whatever you like most. I really love the game, a bit sad bg3 lacked in music compared to dos2
Really love this ost. I think you could try the ost of Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous. Epic, sad and even fun for some of these. It's a cRPG like DOS:2 and BG3 if you want to take a moment to listen to it.
Divinity is SUCH a good game. The music is absolutely stunning, so even if you can't play it, I'd recommend listening to it. The fun part is that since you need to select your party in the beginning and you lose your other companions, it requires multiple playthroughs to gain the full experience. Sing for Me is a phenomenal song. I'm also partial to Ifan's theme
Based on your comments on the different sections, it does sound like you were listening to the Light Version as you stated, even though what plays in your video is the regular version of Rivellon
Marco, I would love if you analyzed Watching the Clouds from Divinity: Dragon Commander. I absolutely love it and it's a shame that it's not mentioned more.
It might take a while to get into but it is co-op and I really recommend playing with a friend as its an absoloute blast! Did I understand all of the story? NO! But it is some of the most fun I've ever had gaming! Also the soundtrack is great with a few in world character songs with lyrics that really work.
this game was such a blast to play. and it had one of the best pay offs for a character. Because lohse, the playable bard, has her own song, "sing for me". But if you try to play a song with her in the game, the "visitor" inside of her stops you from playing, apparently not enjoying music. But if you manage to pull through and defeat the "visitor" in act 3 if you so desire, you get the best payoff possible: you get to take your lute and start playing. To finally sing your song. It's such a beautiful scene, and a great payoff as a roleplayer.
@marcomeatball I'd very much like to see a video on Power of Innocence 2017 (Orchestral Version) in memory of the late Kirill Pokrovsky, who did the soundtrack of every Divinity game up until his untimely death between the release of DOS and and the start of full production on DOS2.
Did you know that you can pick the main instrument for all the songs when creating your characters? There's 4 options, and all give the game a slightly different vibe
I have spent so many hours just walking around in the game, doing inventory, buying or crafting stuff, checking things out. All of that with a feeling of such peace and calmness, and that only works because of the music
I've played the shit out of Divinity Original Sin 2, but I have to stress that the game's entire first act is prologue. It's a slog, and hard to get through. The game actually starts in act 2, and is worth every second. Also, if you read this give Lohse's Song a listen, from the same game.
It would also be great to check out the OST for another great CRPG - Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. It is also stellar, especially the mythic paths themes.
Divinity Original Sin 2 was my first CRPG, and I absolutely adore Borislav Slavov's composition for it! Hands down a must play for all fantasy rpg fans!
same here man
I love bg3 as well as dos2. I can't wait for them to put the same story and character polish they did in bg3 into dos3 if they make it
