    My son has one, and likes to filter collected rain water through his bottle. He let the water sit in the bottle for over two weeks and I opened the bottle to clean it, discovering brown spots all over the filter, and the filter was deteriorated and broken into pieces. Didn’t expect to ever see that. Don’t allow your straws to sit in water. When your done using it, rinse it if possible and let it dry.

      Yes a good word of advice. I believe it's put out there somewhere by lifestraw (maybe the manual) but they say to blow the water out of the filter using the mouth end of the filter.

    Just bought one for $24 to use on hikes where i might encounter mountain streams. The whole leaking upside down is a bummer but its better than hauling a lot of water or waiting to purify it. Ill just have to remember to keep it upright. Good no nonsense review tho.

    I don't think the dripping from a bottle with the straw open is a flaw. If you think about it, water flows when you suck on the straw because of the negative pressure you put on it. But the weight of a full bottle of water is going to force water through the filter in the same way, if air can flow in though the valve.

    Great bottle to have on hand for emergencies. I think it’s worth it to buy a couple just have. Especially in hurricane prone areas. Nice review 👍🏻🤟🏻

    Hey mate, do you put the carbon filter in it and if you do, how often do you need to change it? I read that the carbon filter only filters up to 40L which is not much.

    ok so in what real situation would you ever move it so hard and upside down? and even if, i think a few drops of unfiltered water on the mouthpiece isnt a big risk considering how much contact we have when swimming in water we never would drink.

    Yeah good review. I kinda hate the taste of the water from my bottle. Kinda tastes like plastic I don’t know. I think some activated carbon would make a huge difference

  • @kimberleytreider2328

    I read on a review site that the mouth piece has plastic on it really tightly applied you can barely see it and you have to remove it so you can suck up the water easier. Interested to know if anyone has noticed this.

    Great honest review with the leaking which no one else seems to mentioned. Are you aware of an alternative that doesn't leak yet?

    • @ForrestReviews
      @ForrestReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Haven't found one, but I haven't really been looking. The problem is it would be hard to design a bottle that doesn't have a vent because of the pressure created when sucking.

    If it didn’t have the gasket hole, when you suck you would be creating a vacuum and not able to get any water through the filter. 🤷🏻‍♀️

    So if I bring this with me for a trip to central america its totally safe to drink the tapwater filtered through this waterbottle?
    Thank you for a good review!

    • @ForrestReviews
      @ForrestReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It will filter out bacteria, but I believe some rare viruses are small enough to go through the filter. It's very safe though and people use it in central America, like I did and have no issues

    Can I just say two GLARING holes in your review are (1) re: the leaking issue - that is mostly solved by using the carabiner. If there is water in the bottle, weight + gravity will keep it upright as it hangs = no spilling. (2) Idk why you assumed ANYONE is leaning over a puddle to use the life straw. 10/10 people are just putting dirty water in a cup & then putting the straw in, which begs the question, tf do you need the bottle for, if you’re only going to be keeping water in it at the time of filling as you seem to suggest works best, unless, of course, you “have a cup holder”.... like.... what....

    • @ForrestReviews
      @ForrestReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I like how you said GLARING and then proceeded to say that the issue is mostly solved. Gravity and the carabineer work when your bag is on your back, but what about when you set it down, especially when backpacking this is an issue because it's going in the trunk of cars, in buses etc, your bag will need to always be upright, super big pain in the ass coming from personal experience of when I used this bottle on a hitchhiking trip. If you look up the marketing media that lifestraw has out for the bottleless version, there is lots of pictures of people leaning over streams or directly using it in body's of water, so either they're being deceving about it's utility or you assume too much about the consumers perception of their product. it would be ideal to have a cup to use it sure, but they are meant to be able to be used in survival/minimal situations and as their own unit. Having a cup on you is not always possible.
      I stand by this review and think that you are largely wrong on both points especially the first.

    • @ForrestReviews
      @ForrestReviews  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Life straws or more for backpacking and hiking, not designed for city water that is already potable. If you are somewhere that has fluoride added to the water then you can get something like a zero water filter, or install a RO system.
