Notes on the interview: Ruslan Gabbasov does not speak much English, nor do I speak much Russian. The questions were provided to Ruslan in advance so that he could know what I was going to ask. Ruslan's words were then translated by Jacob Repkin (a.k.a. Arken the Amerikan) and voiced by Michael Hillard of the Red Line Podcast (many thanks to both of you!). Actually bashkirs used to be allies of Nazi Germany and served in SS legion Idel-Ural. So basically those rebels are happening because Bashkirs are nazis and russophobs
Thanks for making videos such as these. Quite informative to show what type of actions the Kremlin takes to silence its opposition. I am impressed and not surprised, quite despicable. Wishing the family all the best and lots of strength in this terrible time.
This is a very low effort video. Well yeah I didn’t know anything about Bashkort, but I only needed 30 minutes of googling to find out that it was a pretty small local irrelevant (and also actually extremist) organisation with dodgy funding. That It had existed for years and the only attention it attracted were fines for misconducts and disrupting social order. That was until they started using those funds for propagation of separatism. So what are the conclusions to be drawn from this video? Did you want to use his example to show, that when you enter a political struggle (and in this case - initiate one), you may end up getting burnt? Or did you want to show us that big states won’t tolerate dissidents broadcasting extremist nationalistic or separatistic views? Also this lazy narrative, like, “the russian establishment is holding 4 million people in this random national republic hostage to extract resources” belongs on yahoo answers or reddit and should stay there
How is this trolling? I genuinely don’t understand the point of this video. I found your video on the 1956 San Marino coup, and liked it a lot, so much that I decided to check your other videos out and got disappointed
Sorry, I didn't see your comment until just now. TH-cam kept trying to remove your first comment for some reason, and - even though I approved it - I didn't see your reply. If I misunderstoond your comment, I apologize. A "low effort" video, at least in terms of the TH-cam world, is usually seen as something that takes very little time and effort and is derivative of other people's work. That seemed like a nonsensical criticism to me, as the video had contributions from four different people and took a week to process. How do you mean "low effort?" Also, you seemed to justify the idea that if someone enters into a political struggle, it's okay for the state to take family members hostage if that political message is unwanted. This is the action of a brittle, authoritarian regime, and I would consider anyone who tries to justify this sort of thuggery as a Kremlin apologies. I used the term "troll" as shorthand. Nowhere in the video is there any reference to 4 million people being made hostage, or a random republic. Again, it seemed like the sort of comment someone would make if they cared more about criticising than understanding the issue (i.e. a troll). Regarding Bashkort, it thwarted the Bashkortostan government's attempt to let the a mining company destroy one of its most culturally important sites. Radiy Khabirov came to the mountain himself to plead with the Bashkort protestors to leave the site and let the diggers begin work. They refused, and eventually, Khabirov gave up. It was after this that Bashkort's persecution began in earnest. Anyone can read about this with less than 30 minutes of Googling.

In Nazi-Germany, this method was called Sippenhaft.
Crikey! It's a bad sign when a government starts enacting policies with names from Nazi Germany!!

Очень интересное интервью! Замечательная работа! Свободу национальным активистам!
