Its NOT strange at all! Clearly you haven't hiked this trail! The water is a roiling mass of white. If you fall in the park rangers told us they only SOMETIMES find the body. Many bodies are sucked into the underwater "potholes" or caves under the sides. The guy probably slipped and aspirated in the icy cold water then the body was suxked into one of the many thousands of caves or "potholes" and eventually pieces floated down to the river.
He went to get a drink from the creek. In 2011 the snowpack in the eastern Sierras was much larger than usual. That means that the runoff would still be massive in June when this happened. The rocks around the creek are very very slippery. It would be very easy for an inexperienced person (or any person) to slip and fall in if they were trying to "get a drink" from the creek. The water was most likely rushing and roaring to Yosemite Falls. If you fall in... it would take a miracle to find your way out. Most likely... he's a part of the waterfall now.

Any time a group goes out together they should stay together. PERIOD. There should be no, "You guys go on ahead and I'll catch up with you later." NO. If one person stops they ALL should stop. Same thing when people go out on the town as a group. They should NEVER separate. If one person insists on going back to their hotel or their home early, sorry, but the entire group should go back and then when that one person is safely at home they can go back out if they want to but that is the price you pay for going out as a group. When you go out as a group you should function like a group. If 10 or so people want to go to a movie together, the majority might want to see a movie that one person just has no interest in seeing. Okay, fine. That one person should stay home that night and allow the others to see the movie they want to see. I'm adamant about this because I have heard too many stories of groups who have one member separate from the rest of the group and that one person is never seen again. Whether that one person runs into some evil person or whether he has a tragic accident or experiences some sort of unforeseen medical emergency, the rest of the group should be there for him. JMHO
I've hiked that trail up to the falls and you need to be watchful every step. As you get closer the mist from the falls makes sections of the trail slick. Anyone with knee problems will have problems either climbing up or bracing on the steep descent. Some people start hiking and turn back, I saw a woman wearing sandals with a short heel and fortunately she went back down the trail. Things get crazier when the trail is crowded and you have no idea the experience level of the people around you or how they'll react in an emergency. I never saw a park ranger hiking the trail but it wouldn't be a bad idea, just as a helpful presence.
That "creek" above yosemite falls is very dangerous. He may have underestimated how slippery the rocks are and the strength of the current. Most likely is under the falls somewhere.
Clearly there is no banking or credit card activity after June 17, 2011, which would indicate George either started a new life (highly unlikely due to his profile) or he is deceased. His hiking companions acted strangely, and may possibly know something about George's disappearance, but at this point we will never know. It is very difficult to find remains in the wild.
In the 1980’s a family acquaintance went on a scout outing to the park. As they were setting up their tents they did not see our friend fall into the river. He was never found. His father searched for a year and hired experienced trackers but never found him.
I did this hike back around the same time as this incident. The hike is no joke, extremely steep and tiring. It wasn’t easy finishing the hike, but the views from the top were epic.
Exactly… that has happened many times in Yosemite’s history. I read a fascinating book about all the recorded deaths going back to the late 1800s. Many foolish and stupid decisions despite warning signs at Yosemite Falls, Nevada and Vernal Falls on the Mist Trail, but not Bridalveil Fall as it doesn’t have a trail to the top. I have visited Yosemite at least once a year, sometimes twice, in every season but summer (way too crowded to enjoy), and it is never the same except for one thing. I always have felt the most peaceful there.
I saw people hiking up to Nevada falls and so many of them were unprepared.. Sandals, no water, elderly.. Also I jumped into the lower Yosemite river near the campgrounds and that water is something else.. It shocks you to the point where its hard to even breathe.
The amount of people who go missing each year in national parks all across the United States, never to be found again, is beyond baffling. Up until a few years ago, I had no idea how common it was or how frequently it took place, so I was truly surprised when I learned about it and decided to dig a little deeper and read about such occurrences. For anyone else that isn't fully aware of it, I highly recommend looking into it for yourself.
I think he ended up getting off the trail and got lost. His church group was awful. When he needed a break to get some water, someone in the group should have stayed with him. Then the group didn’t fully cooperate with the police to help find him. This when called for help to let the park know someone in their party was missing…they left…wow.
Bro got raptured. No, but for real. It's super suspicious he got lost among such a huge group. The fact that they didn't want to help with his search makes me think they were responsible.
He slipped and fell in the water for goodness sake, no one killed him! I used to hang out with a bunch of Christian friends years ago- they're not the sharpest tools in the shed I assure you... The term unrealistic comes to mind...even perhaps brain dead... The poor man was so unfit and tired and thirsty, the vid says he went to get a drink from the creek.. It's no big murder mystery... 🤷
@@C-Here Agreed but the fact they refused to cooperate with officials and all of them left without even considering helping would make them suspicious to many. Also lousy Christians.
@@Tlyna1952 Yeah I found that strange- not wanting to co-operate, that's why I said they could be viewed as "brain dead"! I found them seriously unrealistic- and even now I have a dear friend who's a real church goer- when there's any type of drama- she's like "oh God will take care of it"... 😅😅🤦
@@C-Here That is so sad but then I had a grandfather who was diagnosed with colon cancer who refused to allow the doctors to do anything. He said God would heal him. These people need to get it thorough their heads that prayer needs help and that helping others is critical to being good.
True hiking companions would have joined the search teams and shown concern for his whereabout...they hold the knowledge and truth on George disappearance.
I have a book about a summer ranger in the back country who dissappeared. He was searched for for several years. Eventually his body turned up in a creek. It looks like he had gotten pinned under a boulder in the river and was under water most of the time so he wasn't spotted. After a particularly dry summer his bones were finally found. He liked to be alone and that in itself is a huge mistake. George also did not hike with a companion. One has to assume that nature is unforgiving.
I agree, I have really noticed that many of these types of videos have awful voice over narration with people trying to sound mysterious and add a bit of tension or suspense like they think they’re making a horror movie but they just end up sounding irritatingly creepy and incredibly disrespectful to the real victims of the story. I think the tone of the voice over narration in this video sounds much more professional.
I agree, I like this neutral and respecful tone instead of trying to make the story into a creepy story, and use someone's tragic story and a family's pain as a selling point in a disrespectful way.
I hiked upper Yosemite falls this year it was by far the hardest thing I’ve done. That trail is ruthless, I’m in better shape than George and I know he was probably exhausted once he got to the top . Probably didn’t know how to get back down he walked off into no man’s land
Interesting that people in a "church" group who are supposed to have love in their hearts and care for one another didn't care enough about George to implement the buddy system and have at least one person accompany George. Not my kind of church.
The river bank is so slippery if you fall in. There is literally nothing to get a hold of or grip on. You are unfortunately going over the falls. It’s nice to sit on the ground next to the river and soak your feet
Maybe there was an accident that the group had witness and got scared and didn’t bother to report it? They came up with a story to cover themselves because they felt they did something wrong. Idk it sounds like the group was trying to cover something. Maybe they did some weird cult thing and an accident happened. They didn’t want to sour their godly experience so they pretended nothing happened? I wouldn’t had thought they were involved but the group’s reaction seemed a little strange, like they were guilty of something. Why would they leave him, that was strange too. They know what happened, but they will take it to their grave. 😮👿
They made a common mistake, letting someone stray away from the group. You don’t know what is out there. There’s people who hunt people in the wild and are just waiting for the opportunity to be right. I find it strange nobody shared water or didn’t care to a company him? He didn’t look like he was in shape whatever got him knew he was alone…..
@@fanybidan3665 I would think that his group helped him leave and start new. However it is strange if that's the case and had to call for a search for him.
His camera is missing but, they found his bag on the trail. My thought: He went to get a picture and didn’t watch his feet. Unfortunately, he’s probably on a ledge or crevasse. Perhaps wedged in between some rocks. Just a theory that popped into my head. What do you guys think?
I automatically distrust religious groups, but in this case I think he fell in trying to get a drink and because he wasn’t with real friends, no one noticed him missing.
I know this is a real stretch, but I’m gonna float it anyways perhaps he drank the water on the way up? I know I know it’s ridiculous and 1 million to one, but I just had to mention it.
You wouldn't think so but we went with a family group kids included...I was the experienced one but the youngest of the siblings. .the middle sister kept pushing forward up the switch backs trying to keep a visual on our oldest sister . ... Previous ankle injury kept her at a steady pace ... I kept double backing to stay with her and to relay messages n supplies, supplies between the main group and us and it wiped me out so badly.... It took a full day of recovery just to stop the shin splints and calf cramps ... I had no idea how hard it would be to keep a group together especially if there are weird dynamics.... Yosemite is the NUMBER ONE National Park for missing persons. With very mysterious circumstances. Google David Paulides. He is the only one doing the research on, I believe over 1600 disappearances, in National Parks. He has also developed a database and found multiple data points that correlate with each case… such as; person always alone, literally seen and then GONE in the next second, persons boots or shoes found discovered miles from missing location and sometimes years later with minimal degradation of personal items, scent dogs never find anything and more… Park personnel and higher ups won’t talk and won’t keep a record and push it all under the rug but they know something very mysterious or paranormal is happening, they don’t want the public to know. So so much to find out when you listen to him!!! Very fascinating rabbit hole to go down!
Yes, I have read some of his books and watched some of his videos. You can find him on TH-cam, 411 Missing David Paulides. There is a large cluster of missing people around the Yosemite area over the years. The missing has a few similarities, 1. They always go missing alone. Away from a group. 2. Occurs near body water and borders 3. Missing without a trace and trained dogs team can never locate a scent trail. It's like they went missing right out of thin air.4. Incremental weather(this did not occur in this particular case).

He was heavily involved with a church/organized religion. So sounds like he was already in a cult. 8:40 But seriously, why were they acting so sketchy? If you look back at other missing persons cases, usually when someone close to the victim refuses to help search it’s bc they know there’s no need. Bc they were involved.
The "D&B" on his shirt being in reference to death and burial is such a huge reach. I very highly doubt it had anything to do with that or that he even perceived it that way.
Exactly... Ppl love to project all sorts of silly conspiracies into things- when there's nothing there! Ironically they miss the real conspiracies right before their eyes.. 😂
The theories behind his disappearance,.. slip and fall, suicide, went off the grid, abduction, wild animal, joined cult, aliens, are the same theories mentioned for almost EVERY hiker who goes missing.
Aliens or big foot must have gotten him... Joking aside... IF the people from his group didn't stick around and do their best to help, they are super pathetic... I'd love to know a list of names in case I were to ever come across one of them hurting on a trail / trek... "Wait right here... I'll call Search & Rescue when I get home...
It's hot, he's out of shape, he get's dizzy, drops his bag and falls backwards over the railing while nobody's watching. They search high and low but I'll bet he's somewhere in the middle, wedged into a crack where they couldn't see clearly, especially with him wearing black and grey just like the granite, it makes perfect sense to me.
A great mystery for sure. From what I see as obvious, he was getting water from a creek up there and the gushing waters below show lots of places a body could get caught in or taken away from if he fell. The other obvious sign was his church group staying mum and leaving right after as if he didn't exist. Could be he told them ahead of time not to look for him if lost, or they may have had some grudges against him (he didn't tithe?) so that they thought who cares. Anyway there are so many dangers in that area and so many possibilities that we shall speculate until the cows come home.
He told he was going to drink at the creek and nobody stopped him. they even realized someone was missing only hours later. 🤦♀️ If it's your first time hiking in the outdoors and you are not fit it's safer to go with a small group of more experienced hikers rather than in a big group of random people from your local church.
"Surviving a hike without a group or a professional is nearly impossible." Say what!?! We are talking about a hike that is one of the most popular in the park. You cannot walk go for an entire minute without seeing someone else heading up or down.
Anytime I go hiking with friends. I tell everyone, if you get lost, stay still, light a big fire and throw on leaves for smoke. May be illegal to start fires, but at least I’ll find you. Always have a plan.
I think that WHOLE GROUP of people that went with him all the way up to the top of the falls watched him fall in all go over. It probably freaked them all out so bad they left the park right away. That's why they didn't want to take part of the investigation cause they already knew what happened.
well it could fallen into a crevise that could not be seen they do go for miles and the dogs would not pick this up or deep into the water and may never be found
He seemed to be unexperienced and not well equipped and the trail looks steep and the water dangerous, I think it was a terrible accident. However, I cannot understand that from his group nobody bothered to look for him or call for help in 6 hours. Even if it was a group were people did not know each other well, there should be one who organized/lead the trip checking that the group was complete.
Weird that his body did not surface if he fell...it was crowded on that trail when it happened...nobody saw nothing. He must have stepped off the trail to relief himself and slipped where nobody could see him. Or a cloaked ufo beamed him on board..
What kind of church members were these that they refused to cooperate with the park rangers and investigators, and they just left the park shortly after George's disappearance ?" Why bother going to church and worshipping God at all if you're going to act this selfish ?
That would be why he struggled on the hike or I got that impression, not enough muscle mass for his body weight doesn't equal a proper ability to be on such hikes and indeed as one gets closer to the top of Half Dome the marshmallow people are no where to be seen as they turn around long before the top. However that has nothing to do with this situation in how the so called church group were that irresponsible to all leave him behind. There should have been at least one if not two that stayed with him as a sub group while the others carried on ahead.
Penca was unprepared. The group was irresponsible. George slipped and fell. Rest in peace, George Penca.

That poor man really didn't have a friend or just a caring church goer with him on that hike. YT has the Video of him being heckled before his disappearance/death . RIP Poor Soul .😔💔
Un-Christian church people.
JMHO
The buddy system works people
I agree 💯
YEAH !!! if 2 wants to BANG the rest should join the fun. 🤭
Absolutely. Together means everyone. Shame on the group.
I absolutely agree! No responsible leader leaves ANYONE behind. Slowest are always in the middle. Basic hiking etiquette.
Nothing better then a hike in the wilderness with Christians friends. You never leave your buddy behind.

This guys fall and died. Hiked those trails many times and you can easily slip and fall.
I think it's his group of people did something to him....no one should leave one behind no matter what 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

My husband who grew up in northern Ontario won’t leave anyone behind even walking in a city or the mall. 😊stay together. 🇨🇦💫
In the 1980’s a family acquaintance went on a scout outing to the park. As they were setting up their tents they did not see our friend fall into the river. He was never found. His father searched for a year and hired experienced trackers but never found him.
How terribly sad and heartbreaking... 💔😢
I did this hike back around the same time as this incident. The hike is no joke, extremely steep and tiring. It wasn’t easy finishing the hike, but the views from the top were epic.
While trying to get some water from the stream, he fell over the falls.
His body was trapped under a rock, and it decomposed. 🤷♀️
I don’t think so there’s low spots where you can get water and even swim just fine depending on the time of year
I saw people hiking up to Nevada falls and so many of them were unprepared.. Sandals, no water, elderly..
Also I jumped into the lower Yosemite river near the campgrounds and that water is something else.. It shocks you to the point where its hard to even breathe.
His fellow hiker’s actions are suspicious
The amount of people who go missing each year in national parks all across the United States, never to be found again, is beyond baffling. Up until a few years ago, I had no idea how common it was or how frequently it took place, so I was truly surprised when I learned about it and decided to dig a little deeper and read about such occurrences. For anyone else that isn't fully aware of it, I highly recommend looking into it for yourself.
A friend of mine is currently missing! Went hiking in Hawaii and was never seen or heard from again
I think he ended up getting off the trail and got lost. His church group was awful. When he needed a break to get some water, someone in the group should have stayed with him. Then the group didn’t fully cooperate with the police to help find him. This when called for help to let the park know someone in their party was missing…they left…wow.
Why people separate on these hikes is absolutely insane. Should never leave the group, ever. Rip George
Yes his friends that won’t take a lie detector test are guilty af
Bro got raptured.
No, but for real. It's super suspicious he got lost among such a huge group. The fact that they didn't want to help with his search makes me think they were responsible.
So you’re suggesting that the whole church group was in on his disappearance. That they did him in? Ridiculous!!!
@@Tlyna1952
Yeah I found that strange- not wanting to co-operate, that's why I said they could be viewed as "brain dead"!
I guess he forgot the adage, God helps those who help themselves. He died of complications related to the cancer. I was just a kid then but remembered it when I was 48 and was given the same diagnosis. i had surgery and am still here many years later.
You have a great voice for you give honor to the people, not just their tragic end
Thanks for the compliment 🙏🏻
I agree, I have really noticed that many of these types of videos have awful voice over narration with people trying to sound mysterious and add a bit of tension or suspense like they think they’re making a horror movie but they just end up sounding irritatingly creepy and incredibly disrespectful to the real victims of the story. I think the tone of the voice over narration in this video sounds much more professional.
I agree, I like this neutral and respecful tone instead of trying to make the story into a creepy story, and use someone's tragic story and a family's pain as a selling point in a disrespectful way.
Sounds like his friends know something after hearing about the behavior of his friends
What a nice church, what’s the name I want to join.
That is what I was thinking...
😂
I hiked upper Yosemite falls this year it was by far the hardest thing I’ve done. That trail is ruthless, I’m in better shape than George and I know he was probably exhausted once he got to the top . Probably didn’t know how to get back down he walked off into no man’s land
Interesting that people in a "church" group who are supposed to have love in their hearts and care for one another didn't care enough about George to implement the buddy system and have at least one person accompany George. Not my kind of church.
Me first and then MAYBE you could be their motto.
Dang, I thought D&B stood for Dave & Buster's. Don't speculate something negative. That's not kewl.
Yeah that was weird
Hi,
I do want to emphasize that I was not speculating, but so speculation took place on the Internet. As I mentioned earlier😊
A man disappeared, never to be seen again. I'd say speculating something negative is practically mandatory in this case.
The river bank is so slippery if you fall in. There is literally nothing to get a hold of or grip on. You are unfortunately going over the falls. It’s nice to sit on the ground next to the river and soak your feet
So much for church groups that expouse religion left him alone, didn't want to help find him??!!! What kind of church did he attend?! Cult ?!
I hiked that trail today and someone went missing. I hope he was found
His church friends did something to him 😮
That, or they helped him dissappear and start a new life somewhere.
That's what I just said too 😮😮
@@fanybidan3665 I would think that his group helped him leave and start new. However it is strange if that's the case and had to call for a search for him.
I wouldn't be surprised
I hope you don't spend all your time, researching missing person cases so you can find anyone they ever knew who was religious to blame.
Probably got crossed up in one of those weird church love triangles.
Wtf? That f-ng group should had been searched, separately questioned, their phone records should had been checked!!!
D&B stands for Drum and Bass…he was a fellow bass head. R.I.P. George..
Why was he going for a drink if he had water in his backpack 🤔🤔🤔
Said he had water *bottles* in there. There was no indication that they were actually full of water.
I know this is a real stretch, but I’m gonna float it anyways perhaps he drank the water on the way up? I know I know it’s ridiculous and 1 million to one, but I just had to mention it.
3:25 “ surviving a hiking trip without professional help is nearly impossible” so it’s a miracle anyone gets out of there alive?
You wouldn't think so but we went with a family group kids included...I was the experienced one but the youngest of the siblings. .the middle sister kept pushing forward up the switch backs trying to keep a visual on our oldest sister . ... Previous ankle injury kept her at a steady pace ... I kept double backing to stay with her and to relay messages n supplies, supplies between the main group and us and it wiped me out so badly.... It took a full day of recovery just to stop the shin splints and calf cramps ... I had no idea how hard it would be to keep a group together especially if there are weird dynamics.... Sorry started rambling came back to edit and just gave up lol
Beautiful land with mysterys
Kinda messed up that at least one or two people didn't wait for him regardless what he wanted
Yosemite is the NUMBER ONE National Park for missing persons. With very mysterious circumstances.
Google David Paulides. He is the only one doing the research on, I believe over 1600 disappearances, in National Parks. He has also developed a database and found multiple data points that correlate with each case… such as; person always alone, literally seen and then GONE in the next second, persons boots or shoes found discovered miles from missing location and sometimes years later with minimal degradation of personal items, scent dogs never find anything and more…
Park personnel and higher ups won’t talk and won’t keep a record and push it all under the rug but they know something very mysterious or paranormal is happening, they don’t want the public to know.
So so much to find out when you listen to him!!! Very fascinating rabbit hole to go down!
Thanks for you comment🙏🏻
And he won't let anyone else talk about
Maybe the Rangers are creeps
Yes, I have read some of his books and watched some of his videos. You can find him on TH-cam, 411 Missing David Paulides. There is a large cluster of missing people around the Yosemite area over the years. The missing has a few similarities, 1. They always go missing alone. Away from a group. 2. Occurs near body water and borders 3. Missing without a trace and trained dogs team can never locate a scent trail. It's like they went missing right out of thin air.4. Incremental weather(this did not occur in this particular case).
this dude was way out of shape for a hike. someone should of hiked with him
If he's still alive and faked his death someone must've seen him get into a car or something. George cannot have made it out of yosemite on foot.
He went over the falls prolly I’ve been up there only an idiot would go by the water at the top it’s slippery and flows fast his body is prolly at the bottom under all the huge rocks lol
He didn't make it out on foot- or by car, he fell into the river... Rip George... 💔
How nice of those Christians. They surely would be with you through thick and thin. Oh wait 😮
People are always disappearing from National Parks. 4-1-1
Wow, his church friends sure acted weird.
Very mysterious.
"I'm just gonna go get a drink from the creek". During a heavy snowpack year in the Eastern Sierras. I think it's pretty obvious.
@@DJJoshMcClintock Well then. Don’t just tell me. Tell the world. But first call the family. They deeply deserve to know what you’ve “obviously” figured out.

@@DJJoshMcClintock So now you have a new theory after your first (bold) “drink of water from the creek theory..” Well that’s a nice turn trying to discredit me ,,,, when you already seem to know somehow he was at a creek?? Just exactly how do you know that Guv? Could you be the killer? 🤔
@@TheQueensWish That's exactly what the killer would say. Especially the word "Guv". Only killers use that word.
I am very familiar with the Yosemite area. He was overweight and out of shape. He got high altitude sickness and dehydrated, became dizzy, and fell.
Honestly, a lot of the presumptions made toward George, mentioned in the video, are also a huge reach.
D & B is Dave & Busters which is a restaurant in Dallas. Nothing sinister about it.
Always stay together.
Very strange that nothing, not one single thing, was found. 🧡🙏🏻
These 13 people went missing in Yosemite National Park and haven't been seen again
A wild animal may have dragged him into a cave. 😢
Seems really odd to me that his church friends wouldn't cooperate with law enforcement. The only explanations I come to for that are pretty dark.
hiking is the most useless dangerous activity you can do. And always done by people who have no skills to do anything other than walking
Rule number one don’t drink from the river on the edge of the waterfall.
He told he was going to drink at the creek and nobody stopped him. they even realized someone was missing only hours later. 🤦♀️
If it's your first time hiking in the outdoors and you are not fit it's safer to go with a small group of more experienced hikers rather than in a big group of random people from your local church.
"Surviving a hike without a group or a professional is nearly impossible." Say what!?! We are talking about a hike that is one of the most popular in the park. You cannot walk go for an entire minute without seeing someone else heading up or down.
Behavior of his hiking buddies sounds very suspicious...uncooperative with authorities and left quickly.
Parks and the government cover these up I do suggest never go alone, never split up and carry a tracking device as well as a Firearm
D and b stands for Dave & Busters numbn*t
Anytime I go hiking with friends. I tell everyone, if you get lost, stay still, light a big fire and throw on leaves for smoke.
May be illegal to start fires, but at least I’ll find you.
Always have a plan.
"No trace of him has ever been found."
3 minutes before, "they found his blue bag."
The number one rule, stay on the damn trail 😢
90 percent of these b rolls were from the mist trail not upper Yosemite falls trail 😂 hood narration doe❤️
Why do you constantly show Vernal Falls?
Suicide is what it sounds like to me. Any amateur deciding to venture off on their own seems red flags of suicide!!!
Hello. Does someone know which church he was attending?
If he went in the water he could be miles down stream or trapped under a boulder in the river...sad state of affairs
Even if it was a group were people did not know each other well, there should be one who organized/lead the trip checking that the group was complete.
it is so sus how they would not cooperate.
typical Christians always concerned with saving themselves poor George
These people who suspect the cause to be criminal, suicide or alien abduction should never go out into the deep woods.
The old video doesn't mention that a church member found his backpack.
Portals, he walked into one they can show up anywhere but something opens it
This is weird all in its self because none of his church buddies know anything and he was with one group. Smh this sounds suspicious
Wow it sound like the group had something to do with his disappearance, if they did, I bet they live an agony,
I think the aliens came and got him that is after all the most logical explanation
My thoughts exactly!
Sturdy build?! More like Marshmallow build.
Never leave a person behind no matter what !its basic rules!
If you fall into a strange place, you'd be lucky to be spotted. Tragic.
