    Those termites can really play havoc on any wood structure and when things dont work right like a nail gun it can really upset you. Its understandable how you fill Wes. My wife and I remolded our first home 30 years ago and still look back and say, The lord blessed us through that project because we made it through it. LOL It will all come together in a very short time and you will look back and say, Thank you Lord. Have a great week and God bless.

    How sensible to stop when you are tired. When you get tired you make mistakes. How much better it is when you rest then come back the next day. Remodel? This is a rebuild!

    Just finished my shop.. that we are living in until we get our forever home built...and you are absolutely correct about help at box stores. I was very lucky when I found two older experienced gentlemen one in electrical and one in plumbing. I learned their work schedule and would wait until they were working to get what I needed...lol. It was wonderful to tell them what I needed or was trying to do and they knew exactly what I needed and exactly where it was located in the store and would get it for me and even show me how to do it, well as much as they could in the store.

    Hello Wes. Great job on the window. The good thing about taking all of the wood (studs, siding) is that you can make it all yourself. I looked and found rebuild kits for nail guns. I could not see what you had in the beginning, but I did see the new one you bought. Having a spare might be a good thing. Have good days!

    The remodel looks great so far. I had a house in Illinois that was built in 1864 and there wasn't a square board or wall anywhere in the house. Every board had to be custom cut to fit whenever I did any replacement work.There was dry rot where water damaged the wood over the years. The beam in the basement holding the house from sagging was a 20 foot long old railroad track, it was probably stronger than any modern day I-beam. I know what you're going through during your remodel and you just have to work around the work from the past. looking good... As your cute little son says, 👍👍 Two thumbs up!!

      @falllineridge  2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Wes this brings back memories of my first home. Just like you started tearing into it and deeper I went more I found sawdust where boards use to be. like most old houses it was built right into the ground I think I wheel borrowed two dump trucks worth of dirt out front door to make room for new foundation. Luckily walls was still good but what a job it was. But got the old part repaired and added two new rooms onto the front of the house and a wrap around porch. Turned out pretty nice even though it was my first attempt of doing carpentry. But I was young at 19 just been married little over a year and my first son had just been born.

    Very nice project! Had never heard of mulling windows before. Guess I need to get out more! Anyway, that bit alone was a great reason to watch. Like every project I've ever attempted this one will keep asking for just a little bit more. Good on you to do SOME but not TOO MANY additional elements. Wives are real jewels to put up with this stuff with such good humor.

    • @philhunt9297
      @philhunt9297 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      "never heard of mulling windows" me too
      Guess I'd have just put another 4" x 2" stud between the two windows - that trim on each side (that was hacked off) would just be finished off with a slither of timber matching the remaining outside boards.............but we are all human and therefore have different thought processes etc
      Love the clip of the little'un acting....deserves an Oscar

    Those termites cause alot of damage in Queensland. Australia as well. Queensland being sub tropical has alot of rain and cyclones around this time of the year. Here where we live in Tasmania we don't get termites as such but instead we get borers which can be just as destructive, especially in green timber! Great job on the window and even more so seeing as how its your 1st attempt. All the best from Tasmania, Australia......................pls stay safe

    Hi Wes, greetings from Argentina. I´m the guy who suggested you a few months ago to listen to 40 fingers since it seems you are a guitar music fan.
    After I ended watching this video, it occurred to me: why not seal the window with some polyurethane foam? I have personally used it many times and it works fine even in places it is not recomended to use and it did pretty well. After it´s dry, you can shape it with a cutter, sand it and paint it as you like. Be VERY carefull with your eyes; and don´t make it stick to your clothes and or skin. It´s hard to take it off. Good luck!
    Cheers from NE Patagonia, Argentina, (a dream place).

      I remember. I checked out 40 fingers and they were totally impressive. Thanks for that suggestion. I do plan to use foam insulation around the windows. I've used it before in other places and it's great!

    This might seem strange, but flat plastic model paint works really well for color matching dissimilar plastics/vinyl projects. Crazy but it works on caulking too, but make sure each stage is fully dry to avoid any possible reaction as the paint is oil based.
