- Nigeria's movie industry is one of the world's biggest but so far there hasn't been a global breakout film to crossover into the mainstream. "Lionheart" starring Genevieve Nnaji (as well as her directorial debut) may be that movie
What kind of stupid question is "where did you get the money" and where did you get the expertise?" I swear white folk can be so ignorant.

They are not too proud, it's a good question because nollywood would never fund movies, and he asked Because most people won't know how they movie was funded, so now people know that they can also self fund a great movie..

That question jolted me also. For such a high calibre journalist to ask that question in 2018 is surprising as well as insulting.
C'mon guys, must we always attach sentiments with our dealings with whites? That question is typical when success stories are told and it was asked because both the interviewer and the interviewee know its still an issue in the industry. Genevieve did a good justice to the question by starting with the word "unfortunately", so we now know they effort they put to overcome the challenge.
Richard Quest talks well alot about Africa in the business world and he is one of the few top CNN journalists that visits African countries. He was in Nigeria last year and mentioned alot about how powerful, wealthy and successful Nigeria is as a country.... So he already knew the answer. It was just a typical question most journalists will ask. We really need to change our mindset on some of these issues.

Did he see her film, "Road to Yesterday"? It was awesome! The storyline, quality of the film, the acting...superb. Genevieve is my favorite Nollywood actress. Became a huge fan when I saw the movie, "Emerald." Stay African. Don't try to make films that imitate western culture. That's what draws me to African films and keeps me coming back for more.

Oga. It is the first "Netflix original" film from Nigeria. It's not the same thing as just being on Netflix. There are lots of Nigerian movies on Netflix but non is a Netflix original except for this one. If u r a Netflix subscriber, you would know.

When Hollywood first started their quality wasn't a tenth compare to Nollywood's content. What is the obesssesion with Africa? They are always looking for opportunities to degrade them regardless of what they do and achieve. They should be praised for their current achievements which was possible without the help of foreigners. What about the poor qualities? Give me a break, no one cares about the quality, we care about the rich content they are continuously implementing in their movies. It is a colossal waste to invest money in quality as done by Hollywood. Hollywood was the only monopoly, but no more. (On a side note, TH-cam does not honor the Piracy Act when it involves Africa, fear not, it will backfire.)

Cheap movies ? For me the cost of a movie does not tell me anything about its quality . Nollywood does not spend money on special effects : exploding cars and buildings , mutant people and aircraft . Many people are offended by the funding question because they don't understand how funding works in Hollywood. It's a big deal for them and it is almost impossible to self fund a movie in the US. Hence, Quest's curiosity on where they got the funds.
Well the world does not revolve around America and they shouldn't assume funding works everywhere else the way it works in America. They should have done some research before the interview. But that's typical stupid American attitude coming through. Good films can be made on a budget in Nollywood just as bad films are. And Americans make many low intelligence, low budget to DVD flops just like Nollywood and Bollywood it's just that they cover it up as non mainstream and love to patronise others who don't

I also saw is as an innocent question. It's not easy and there are plenty of interviews on youtube of anchors asking movie makers how they raised funds. In fact, it's more common than not. Especially small budget films. They always ask.
