Thanks for the (amazingly timely for me) wisdom, Aram. Wonderfully put together and presented! The health and relationships side of things can so easily be overlooked when focussing so much on work, especially after just making the jump full time - going to be very mindful of this :)

It's very easily done, I've definitely been super guilty of it in the past, so don't hate yourself if at times you get the balance wrong, but yeah hugely important to try and keep those times for relationships protected :) Hope the freelancing journey so far is going well!

Amazing lessons Aram, as always super well explained and valuable - love this "podcast" format, literally you can talk about anything, maybe you can do at some point a series of "Award-winning Director reacts to XYZ", it would be interesting to hear your point of view! Or perhaps your 5th Skillshare class "How To Start Your Own Freelance Business" ✌

Cheers compadre. I actually have my own how to go freelance course I'll be launching soon (it's been ready for months just the imposter syndrome creeping in as it always does!!!)

No so this is actually on the Panasonic S1, and my next video I post will be on a different camera haha. My camera journey has been a complex one but if you're looking at cameras here's what I'd say:
Sony FX3 - Beautiful image, great dynamic range, love how small it can be. BUT. I hated the handle/xlr position, I hated how any time you put a lens on it it just drops forward, the battery life isn't great, and overall I found it quite an annoying camera, however I did always like the image out of it, although if you underexpose it will be noisy.
Panasonic S1 - Love the build, the solidness of it, the battery life is great, enjoyed being able to plug it in to a mains as well for interviews, the codecs are great, and the photography side was really good too. The highlight rolloff isn't so good, or at least not as good as the FX3, and the lack of continuous AF unless I bought L mount lenses (which I didn't want to do) became frustrating with the skillshare/youtube stuff. However it was nice having two of these for about the same price as one Sony FX3.
Personally, I just prefer bigger cameras like the Sony FS7 or Canon c200. My favourite small camera, despite the fact it has the worst battery life, smallest sensor, record limits and worst codecs, is actually the fuji XT3. It's just so much more fun and pleasing to use. and a lot cheaper now.

@@aramatkinson hey! thanks for that answer! i have a sony A1 for photography and cant get used to it for video! something in the menu and workflow of the sony system makes me miss my black magic pocket 4k! ...so easy to use and not so sharp image...wel..i KNOW perfectly well that the camera is not the main factor..lights, grading and the dp can do great work with any actual system i think...i saw a ursa mini in one of your videos ...did you ever try the blackmagics? thanks a lot!

@@palmaestudio1381 ah yeah, I really enjoy using blackmagic. I have an Ursa mini pro 4.6k and it's Great. The only thing stopping me getting the pocket cams is I need AF for some of the work I am doing. Their menu systems are just heaven compared to the rest lol.
