For Those Who Feel Behind

  • This is a video for creators who find themselves thinking 'was this year a complete failure? Am I a complete failure? Have I just wasted the last week, month, or year?!'
The danger we face as creators is defining our success by how much work we put out, or how many clients we have, or what awards we have won. It is a danger because we often link our identity, with our work, and if we aren't creating, then who are we?
This 'end of year review' for creators is my attempt to battle some of those own demons and find value in the other forms of success as a filmmaker.

Beautiful message Aram. Just by visiting family/friends or discovering any new place even if nearby, we gain energy. Changing your perspective and think of us as an ally instead of a hero... never thought of it but yes this is so true mate, thanks for spreading the positivity and have a great 2023!! :)

Thanks Ale! Can't wait to watch the video you've just put out! Have an awesome 2023 as well and maybe hopefully we can end up in the same country and same room at the same time!

I apologise that you probably had the 11 months of me complaining rather than the 1 month of enlightenment haha.

Honestly, this video was kind of a wake-up-call for me. I was currently feeling somewhat down, because I felt like I wasn't learning (fast) enough and I haven't created all that much. This feeling of stagnation is very frustrating for me (and most probably many others in creative fields). But looking back at this past year, even though I haven't realised a dream project, or finally made something that I felt was good enough (for more than 5 minutes); I (hopefully) helped a lot of people making their visions come true, and was a good ally.
I actually learned things about many different fields, I learned that I really enjoy conceptualising AND camerawork, I learned that I love lighting, ... It really is quite hard to chase ones dream(s), but no one else is going to do it for you. So thank you Aram for this video; All the best for your future endeavours!

That was lovely to read, I've no doubt you've not only been a good ally but probably learned way more about lighting and conceptualising than you even realise. Lighting is a funny one where it seems simple and like you've always done on it the way you do now, but actually it's all those micro-lessons you learn over months and years that are easy to forget, but add up to something great.
Have a lovely Christmas and keep doing what you're doing :) here's to a good 2023!

The amount of freelance work I've done has taken a dip whilst studying my MA. I was feeling a little bit of imposter syndrome when it came to being an independent creator/videographer. This video was a good reminder that my studies and the films I'm making as a part of that course, are indeed playing a part in my progression. Great video Aram. - Jay

Cheers Jay! Definitely important to not lose sight of the progression being made, even if its not as obvious in terms of jobs/income

You just created a VERY good video. Meanwhile I just created a pretty good cup of coffee. Congratulations on the 100K run and while being injured. My gosh well done! Great video and I appreciate the wise words. Thank you 💕

I'd take a pretty good cup of coffee over the subpar cup of tea I've just made any day. 😂 I used to work in a cafe and could never master the froth design and shapes, to me, THAT is art.
