The fact that Addam and Rex address Azurda as 'Nuncle' and 'Gramps' while it's not a direct evidence is in my opinion a little hint Takahashi included to avoid giving a direct answer. Also Rex meaning 'King' in Latin could enforce his royal lineage. Regardless of Addam being half blood, the king of Torna designated him as his successor.
In my opinion, Rex could be of Tantal Origin, but the father probably been Mor Ardain, since Tantals and Tornas has their skin color a little more tanished than Rex and speak in britsh english too, since Rex and Zeke accent are british. Plus its amost the same for Addam too, since he is only known to be half Torna, but didn't specify who the other half is. SO again by skin color, i suppouse Adam is also half Mor Ardain too (in this case probably the mother). That's also a subtle hint about it if you think about. And Letherians are basically only from Fonset who is a village founded by Addam, SO ... it's probably not a coincidence of all places Rex and his parents could go, end up to be the place founded by Addam and probably the place Azurda was waiting for him as well.

After Torna the Golden Country, I've always thought that Zeke redeemed what his far distant ancestor couldn't. He mended family ties whether he knew it or not. Addam tried, but obviously Zettar was too envious, so it was out of his control. They would never got along. Fast forward to the future and we see the descendants of two estranged Tornan Royalty working together on the battlefield, both working for self improvement and the bigger picture for Alrest, and having mutual admiration for each other.

Plus, even with Zeke shenanigans, he provides a big brother figure for Rex, in response to Vandham's father figure during the Urayan portion of the game. Zeke the only problem he has was getting cockblocked by the enviroment before he could said anything, BEFORE get serious during the last part of Letheria. From there, Zeke went a little less silly and more down to earth, probably because he saw both side of the spectrum between Tantal and Indol. Even if he was a little manipulated by Amalthus machinations as everyone else.
one more point that make Rex's addams descended is Azurda (gramps). why Azurda stop protecting Spirit Crucible Elpys to be Rex's titan ship for Salvaging?
He need to protect Rex and only Rex at all costed. Azurda had to have know somehow that Rex is addams descended. why did he train Rex and only Rex in blade arts skills in Fonsett Village (play time!). Azurda had a core crystal ready to give Rex when the time was right. Azurda Know Rex could open Spirit Crucible Elpys even when he was not born in Fonsett Village. what Azurda does in the game are huge clues to Rex's blood line.

Also there's no need to guard spirit elps due to how dangerous it was, even malos in his State wouldnt bothered going there in his State, as for bandits and explorers they were warned by azurda who wouldn't stop them, there was no need
@@Joshua.670 Azurda's job was to protect the village, not so much the spirit crucible. The village where rex was raised and made him the person he would eventually become. Mythra or Pyra likely told Addam which is why he built the spirit crucible in Leftheria. To await swords future owner and driver of the aegis.
@@LBCAndrew The Spirit Crucible is way more ancient than Adam, the heart to heart down there explains that it was likely built prior to the Leftherian Titan sinking below the cloud sea.
Another reason Zeke is close personality-wise to Adam is there arts have the same effects. They both have Lanuch, blowdown and front atk up arts
Also doesnt Addam start with a lightning element as well and two of their arts do look kinda similar although but Zeke's is obvi extremely exaggerated. Although the last part may be a stretch

If you talk to one of the NPCs at the villa they talk about how there are planning to escape to Leftherian if things goes south.
Also with the sidequest dealing with monsters from Leftherian are invading Torna this implies that the titans are close to each other.
In xc2 they literally say that Addam moved to leftheria and protected the hiding place of the other Sword.

Also, nice touch with Fonsett. The kids all have blue eyes, Tornan trait. The only kid/teen with golden eyes, a Leftherian feature, is Rex.

I like to headcanon Addam's wife, and possibly himself, settled down in Leftheria after the Aegis war.
This would mean that another reason Azurda stuck around there for as long as he did was not only to protect Spirit Crucible Elpys, but also to keep track of Addam's bloodline, whether in hope of another of Addam's blood rising to bond with the Aegis, or in a posthumous favour to his friend, making sure his descendants are relatively safe and happy.
It's more than heavily implied, Addam left the survivors in Spessia with the intent of coming back for them and taking them to Leftheria after he sealed the Aegis, probably thinking they'd be safer in the refugee camps than with him in the ship; of course when he came back there was nothing left but the plan was always to take them to Leftheria while Zettar's faction headed to Tantal, hence he is the confirmed founder of Fosett and the creator of Spirit Crucible Elpys.
After their deaths he probably grew dissillusioned with the world and simply settled with his wife in a secluded part of the titan.

They are both related. Its first alluded to by Malos commenting on Rex's eyes, then the multiple times Pyra and Mythra compare their likeness, and what sealed the deal was what Rex told Jin during their last fight in Chapter 9. MAJOR SPOILERS: th-cam.com/video/60WhCcfcSBE/w-d-xo.html Jin knew Mythra's true driver was not Addam, and her true driver was someone in the distant future. When Rex made those comments in the link i just mentioned about descendants essentially passing the torch of knowledge to the next generation in order to continue ones legacy beyond death, it stopped jin in his tracks. .I think that was the point where he realized Rex embodied everything that Addam was unable to achieve and that the blades true purpose was staring him right in the face the entire time.

Another thing I would like to point out is that in the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 complete works book that came with the special edition of the game there are like 3 artworks (one of them from the Spirit Crucible Elphys entrance) which features a characther that most likely is Rex (because of the salvager suit and Pyra’s Blade) but with grey hair (or whatever Addam’s hair color is, I’m not an expert at colors) which because of the time of its release implies that at some point of the development Rex’s art design was similar to Addam’s art design later in Torna

Something else to add to this: At the end of Torna, Mythra sees a vision of Rex. I don't remember if it showed anything of Leftheria itself, but the different regions do have different characteristics in the people, so she may've recognized Rex as Leftherian in the vision, told this to Addam, and because of this Addam made it so only Leftherians could access the Aegis. Because he knew her next driver would be Leftherian.
edit: Also, I feel like a consistent theme of Rex's character is the whole "family isn't blood, it's who you make family" thing, so I think having all his success revolve around who he's descended from would kind of undermine that and be a bit shallow. This is far from concrete though, so it's more so just personal thoughts.
If anything, it gives Rex more depth than the shallow character we got in XC2. The whole "family is who you make it" is such a boring trope and that's a huge issue with XC2 is how trope-y the whole thing is. Having Rex be Addam's descendant, where also trope-y, at least gives a little insight into who he is and why he's able to wield the Aegis as well as he does.

@@terrabranwen2492 in XC2? Yes, but Future Redeemed does make Rex a lot more bearable. I like Rex quite a bit in FR, my opinion on 2 hasn't changed at all though
After putting a collective four or five hundred hours into Xenoblade DE and 2, these games have become so important to me for so many reasons. There could be something to it narratively since Monolithsoft likes to parallel a lot of Christian stories, concepts and gnosticism.
You could make the case Addam's bastard status gives him a similarly toxic and jealous relationship with his brothers as Joseph(the first) to his brothers and Rex, his descendant(or great nephew if you want a strict parallel), could loosely represent Christ, being of royal lineage, but a complete nobody. This would make Rex vs Malos extra interesting since Malos is Christ twisted by church to suit their desires.
I like this theory. I mean, the first time I saw Adam's art, it looked like a fusion of Rex and Zeke to me. Personality wise ended just like them too. Also, I doubt they made the scene of the "golden eyes" without a meaning behind it.
As for the similar eyes with Lora. I thought that Lora and Adam could be related. I don't recall if they mentioned something about Lora's father or Adam's mother so I made that connection. Besides, I thought it was cool that Rex could have this connection with Jin and Malos even before his journey started, being the descendant of the women who loved Jin and the man who wanted to defeat Malos. However, like you said, there is less information for this theory to be solid.
And I didn't completed every sidequest so maybe I'm missing the part were their missing parents are mentioned...ups.

Your theory is quite spot on I believe what you said it’s highly possible and the fact that Adams wife has survived is more than likely a possibility and a high at that, and Rex is one of the possible many to have torna royal blood, those crest can only be activated by those of the royal bloodline, both direct and cadet, but Rex being the rightful heir to the torna throne is more than likely a possibility
Personal headcanon is that Lora and Addam are half-siblings on their mother's side.

Why did it take Jin and Malos 500 freaking years to discover the location of the Aegis? Especially given that Jin knew addam and as such could have figured out about the ancient ship easily.

Maybe they were preparing in all those years? Like setting up a team and constructing the Monoceros. They also might have been looking for a Leftherian? Idk
depends how long Malos was incapacitated at the end of torna, I'd imagine he took a while to heal. also Jin had depression for a long time so it's hard to tell when they joined up but I imagine it wasn't IMMEDIATELY after Jin became a flesh eater.

in the dlc, just before Mythra beat Malos, she had a vision of rex.

i think one of rex's parents are leftherian who moved with the other wherever and then when they were escaping that place, they went to the only other place they knew well
There are two things that makes me think Rex is descended from Adam and it's moreso circumstantial and themeing based.
For one, Zeke reminds me of Addam a lot more than Rex, BUT he's clearly a lot more exaggerated. This fits him as a "fake" descendant of Addam, allowing Rex to be presented as a more accurate descendant of Addam's will.
The second is that Gramp's is literally the only one in the entire story who could actually keep track of Addam's lineage. Otherwise Rex coming to live on his back is entirely random, which seems like TOO much of a coincidence, considering he knew Addam personally.
a little correction (over a year late but still) uraya and tantal were struggling with famine, mor ardain issue was lack of territory and a dying titan, also a comment in the wiki page about addam actually helps with the "rex not from fonsett" issue, the comment says that maybe addam never saw his wife again either to protect her or because she took the inciative to protect herself from the usurpers, either way by the end of the aegis war they where separated and she posibly was with the group that went to tantal or a smaller titan, without knowledge that addam created a settlement, generations later being chased out of their home for whatever reason (war, famine, dead titan) her decendants learn about fonsett and tried to take refuge there with little rex.
honestly it seems really plausible.
I just finish the game, both main game and DLC and I think maybe Addam didn't spent too much time in Fonsett because we never heard Gramps talk about where he was or which was his house etc. Gramps talked just one thing of Addam that he told Gramps to watch over the Crucible.
What I think is Addam's wife lived but she didn't go to Letheria but elsewhere and then Addam went to Letheria after sinking the ship and found Fonsett village. He was living there for a while and then tried to find his wife. He may found her and lived with her in the other titan or died on the way.
For the population in Fonsett, I think they are quite a mixed races and if Addam was living there for a while he maybe set something up for the seal to mach with the population or maybe do nothing to prevent the other going down there except his descendent (as Mythra foresaw the futur and told Addam via Pyra form, that might also be the case) .
For the Torna guys, they may have some information but not so sure, I think they just gambling their chance but when Malos saw Rex's eyes, that point I think both of them, Jin and Malos were sure that they got the right one and I think that's why Jin kill Rex when he touched the sword.

Well Zeke's family is descended from Zettar who is Addam's uncle. If Rex is related to Addam, he is related to Zeke eeven if they would be very far on the family tree.

It was funny to me how much the tornan king reminded me of fürher Bradley from FMA Brotherhood
Luxin, remember, the crew Malos and Jin assembled were ALL only from Leftheria. It was stated by Bana that they specified the whole elite team needed to be Leftherian. They were obviously banking on at least one of the crew having the right DNA.
I always assumed that rex and addam where related too
TBH, I don't think they're directly related. Not in a linear sense at least. I have this theory that all Leftherians are all descendants of Addam, and no, not counting the orphans that come from other Titans. Since the Tomb of the 3rd sword was on the Leftherian Archipelago it is reasonable to assume that Addam would have settled on it or even started it, where he could "start a new" as they say.
I was interested in the plausibility of this theory, then I watched this video, and you somehow convinced me that the theory is nothing more than headcanon.
Actually bana specified that torna (the terrorists not the kingdom) wanted only salvagers from leftheria meaning that they only chose rex to go with them in the ship because he could fight
Hmm... Euden and Ranzal from Dragalia Lost remind me of Rex and Zeke.
For Euden:
1. We KNOW, for a fact, that Euden comes from Alberian royalty. That bloodline traces all the way back to Alberius (basically DL's version of Addam).
2. From Cleo's adventurer story, we know that Euden reminds her of Alberius. We know this is reliable because she was with Alberius before she was put to sleep for 300 years.
3. Just like Rex, Euden barely thinks about himself. He is more likely to help out others. Euden establishes his own COUNTRY to provide safe haven for refugees.
For Ranzal:
1. His first introduction involves his getting into a fight with Euden's party, just like the Zeke fight in Chapter 5.
2. His personality is very similar to Zeke's in the fact that they both want be the strong hero that protects the common people, which is a misconception of Alberius/Addam respectively.
3. Their past and how it impacts their relationships with their father are similar. Both Zeke and Ranzal hated their fathers because they didn't want to promote isolationist policies of their country/city. This leads to them leaving said country/city. Instead, they chose to pursue other jobs before joining up with the main party (Zeke as an ambassador and Ranzal as a mercenary).
Now it would be great if Euden and Ranzal were somehow distant cousins, too.

I just rewatched the video and I quickly need to note something.
With Addam, Zetter and king of Torna.
Addam would become king of Torna regardless of his bastard bloodline since he is the king son.
Think of it similar to UK royals. If the Queen were to die as well as Prince Charles. The next king would Williams followed by his children.
The only way Harry would be able to become king is through both William and all of children were to either die or to be disinherited by Charles before he died or if they didn’t want the throne similar to Edward VIII( the Queen uncle) giving up the throne to King George V . ( both due him not wanting to be king and due him being very controversial person while King George was loved by the people.)
Otherwise, Harry would never be able become king.
Bring back to XC2. Zettar would never be able to become King of Torna. As Addam is both alive and well. As well as every other child of the king of Torna.
Well, Zetter survived. He left the palace that his brother died in. We even see him in the credits of Torna. Zetter for sure had descendants because Zeke exists

So I’d imagine it would be kinda impossible for those two to lose their memories so long as their core is in tact to receive the data. But idk that’s just my head canon, maybe I’m missing something

@@wannabewallaby3248 That was my line of thinking as well, but the community still seems pretty split on the issue. Our opposition mostly focuses on things like Rex's reaction and the severity of the explosion, but that stuff is kinda trivial and could be interpreted in different ways. I definitely lean more towards them keeping their memories (it makes logical sense and is my personal hope), but Luxin is basically the Xeno guru at this point so I thought it'd be cool for him to put his thoughts on the table.
I mean aegises hold the data of all blades And life. Plus pneumas core wasn’t destroyed so most likely they did.
Would like to see this video too but I feel like theres no real reason they would forget. The Aegis was literally responsible for collecting information of other cores, wouldn't make sense for her not to be able to retain her own. Plus they seem very open to poppi instantly as she runs towards them.

"this door will only open to one of you people" this means that any Letherian could have done it.
This could be a possibility but over 500 years Rex’s appearance would look totally different from Addam because of having children with tornans (blue eyed) and also possibly other races.
Recessive traits are a thing...and cheating spouses
Keep in mind that Rex is essentially specially suited to drive mythra. Over generations, certain traits can appear and disappear in a family. It’s also a video game. It’s highly possible that it’s simply a coincidence that the descendant most like addam looked like addam and also was better at driving mythra than addam.

im currently replaying Xenoblade 2 because of the announcement of XC3 ... so i thought rewatching a few of your videos might give me some clues what i missed and what could be relevant going forth ....
But tbh all of this would sound like a plot hole ... if it would actually matter ... which it dosnt ...
If Addam lived in the Leftheria Archipelago after founding it , Rex wouldnt have been born outside and brought back in ...
If Addam left the Archipelago after founding it , it has at least the possibility that the decendants fled for Leftheria because they hoped they get help there , so that sounds logical that Rex ended up there ...
but that would mean that someone must have forseen it , so that Addam would not live there ...
Sure Zeke and Rex could be related going back to Addams parents Royal family side , i never doubted that , but this dosnt matter either ...
here my reason why i think it dosnt matter : Mythra has forseen Rex in Torna ... now we dont know if she told Addam or not , but from this point you can simply disregard it as destiny ... that it had to be Rex specifically .
but other than that ... i think the door trigger on the ship where they found Pyra , didnt actually have any special recognition mechanic so it would have opened for anyone ... simply because Addam knew the Aegis would return when the world and its people are ready , thats why he let Mythra record a last message to the Tantalese / Decendants ... also .... there was the mist or powder in the ship , which blocks Blade powers ... which i think is why Jin let Rex open both doors in the first place ... before they walked into the Room .
That was already a type of defence mechanism , so there was no need for the door trigger to actually have some bio scan thingy.
If the Ships door trigger would actually only react to Leftherians , Rex dosnt fit the role ... and if it only reacts to Addam decendants the call for a Leftherian Salvager wouldnt quite cut it .. because it wouldnt actually even the odds ...
What could make more sense is that if you lived a long time in Lefthera that your body was imbued by something that is surrounding the archipelago.
Or the trigger might just only work for Humans , which is the other option why ... since none of the Torna guys are humans ...
But then the trigger at the Omega Fetter would still work for Blade Eaters ? ... since it does work for Zeke ... but so it would for Mikhail ....
Now why the Omega Fetter was sealed behind a trigger that had the Addams Crest on it , i have no idea ... because the Tantalese dont actually use that Crest anywhere ... and Addam never actually went to Tantal ....
The "Ah but with those Eyes" line from Malos could also only be the way that Rex looks , some idealism or couragous look in his eyes.
Then the line about Addams eyes being the eyes of a bastard would just mean that Malos pays attention to the people he is fighting with and has good observation skills. So there dosnt have to be any deeper meaning or connection to it.
There is one other option tho .... the option that in the base game it still would be a plot hole before the Torna DLC ... simply because Monolith was short on personel and messed it up , and the Torna DLC made it so it was pointless anyways because of the forseen future. Thats how it feels at least from my pont of view.

Azurda specifically promises to get the people of Aletta out safely, and since they had a personal relationship off screen, he PROBABLY knew to prioritize the wife and kid

He said around like chapter 7 or 8 of the main story that the devs wanted to show Jin's backstory or memories however they felt like that would've been too long away from the main cast so they decided to make Torna.

I think the comment about rex's eyes were just that, a comment. Eyes are considered a gateway to the human soul by many. We know Rex is a brave fella, stubborn too. I think that is what Malos was pointing out.

I'm not sure you're giving convincing arguments for this. I'm happy to agree it's possible he does have Addam's genes, but there's no way to know that for sure. Addam did found Fonsett Village, but not everyone that lives there is his descendant - which is the major crux of the issue here.
The real missing link is connecting Rex's parents with Addam and his creation of Fonsett Village, and there's zero evidence that connects these things. You'd have to prove they didn't just drop Rex off at Fonsett because it was nearby or for some alternative reason. The village is known for taking in children - you'd have to demonstrate that Rex's arrival was not just for that reason, even though that's basically the reason heavily implied by the game. It's possible they really were from Fonsett before, went away and then came back - probably the only answer that makes sense for why Rex can touch the Fonsett seal. But can we be sure? Could this just be a writing error? How do we know which ancestor was from Fonsett if not Rex's parents, and were they a descendant from Addam?
As for Zeke opening the seals, we already know they were not descendants from Addam so those seals were constructed by Tantal specifically. Has nothing to do with Rex and the Fonsett or Pyra seals. Not sure why you included in the video.
There is a lattice of emerald crystals that Rex bypasses in the game, and Morag assumes its because he has a connection to the Aegis. Given the crystals WERE emerald, this is a likely possibility. We know it had nothing to do with being a Letharian because nobody else had removed those crystals. You'd have to really demonstrate it couldn't be due to Rex's connection with the Aegis and that the crystals could only be removed by Addam's bloodline. There's no evidence for that - zero. A connection to the Aegis is also a way better security measure than just anyone who descended from Addam. Not in favour of a point of the bloodline at all.
Addam says he's been waiting for someone like Rex, but he's not talking about his bloodline - clearly the ability to protect and take on the fears of the Aegis to be her true driver. That is what Addam was looking for. There is zero evidence to support a bloodline here. In fact, this is consistent with the emerald crystal barrier.
So, I think the correct answer to this question is, "We don't know." And I'd even lean towards no being a bit more likely.
A lot of this "evidence" presented in the video is really bad. And a lot of bad evidence combined together doesn't become good evidence - it actually becomes horrible evidence because that is how multiplying probabilities works.
The reality is that even if we can assume his parents really were Letharian and took Rex back to their home village (despite the village not recognizing them as past residents in the cutscenes), you'd still have to prove that Rex's ancestry came from Addam and not one of the other village residents that lived with Addam. To my knowledge, this is not provable by evidence - the writers didn't provide it.

While I don't think it's necessary impossible that they're related, I still don't really buy it.
Addam told gramps to find a leftherian, not a tornan, not a direct descendant of addam, just a leftherian. And as you pointed out, that doesn't even necessarily mean someone of leftherian blood. Maybe the seals somehow can just tell a person has lived in leftheria, or the Titans either affects them in some way? That's what it seems like to me based on how torna (the terrorists) were just looking for any leftherian, although what you proposed of them planning on going through leftherians until they were successful is definitely possible.
I also really headcanon that rex's parents were from a dying titan because that just fits far too well

I have the same theory as well, since Addam has a wife and an offspring(1). Sorry Mythra, your only considered as a sister to Addam's eyes... Going back to the topic, at the end of the game Mythra had a foresight going 500 years in the future seeing Rex... This also indicates that Addam saw that future too, since drivers and blades share a "bond". In other words, yes their related to a certain extent but that doesn't exclude the fact that Rex(lover) might be a reincarnation of Addam if not better.

Another interesting thing I noticed about Rex's parents potential origin. In Fonsett, when you first open Rex's hiding place where he keeps possessions of his parents that I believe Aunt Corinne gave him. In game, you open the chest and get a Holy symbol accessory that has an origin location of the World Tree. When I first saw this, I then expected to find out that Rex had come from the World Tree with his parents but had no memory of it due to being a baby.
