- Here's something I've wanted to share here for so long-my childhood collection of Mattel Buzz Lightyear of Star Command toys from 2000/2001! I got XR, Booster and Zurg back when these were first released (I was around 10 years old) and then I got Buzz on eBay more recently. Sadly I never got Warp Darkmatter or Buzz on his Space Cycle from wave 1 (or anything from wave 2), but there's still plenty of good stuff to share here! So many memories. Enjoy! BLOSC is such a good movie/series and it sucks that it didn’t get enough attention. This Mattel line alone shows Disney really didn’t care about the series since they never even released one of the four main cast members as a figure. Plus the Mcdonalds Mira figure was exclusive to the super rare Australian-exclusive set, and I don’t even think she’s in the same scale as the Mattel figures. AND the show has never gotten an official release apart from a rare sampler VHS that had a single episode on it and the short clips in the video game. It’s still definitely worth a watch though, and I’d highly recommend the DVD to those interested in the series since it’s in much higher quality and a wider aspect ratio.
Love your thoughts, thanks for sharing all this! Nice to meet a fellow BLOSC fan here who totally gets how underrated it was/is. And I didn't even mention in my review how it's such a shame it's not on Disney+ -and I'm not sure it ever will be sadly!

😂I had it on vhs. Then on DVD 10 years ago. Several years ago, I was dumb enough to get rid of it. Yesterday, I found the DVD for $6 at Half Price Books. I love this movie!!! WHY? Why isn’t this movie or show on Disney+? Great video, I might buy these.
Even if they did put it on there, they'd edit it quite a bit I imagine. Some of the jokes wouldn't be allowed today. Which makes them even funnier.

Mattel also made a Bobblin' Alien Plush that vibrates, Thinkway Toys also made a bunch of figures too that talked. A Buzz and Zurg that can interact, a Model Kit Aqua Suit Buzz, a Model Kit XR, a Model Kit Zurg, a Remote Control XR and a Buzz Lightyear Spaceship, and two Dancing LGMs: Normal Suit and Buzz Suit

They really did Mira Nova dirty. I remember reading that it was sadly a normal thing for female characters to get shafted in the merchandising even if they are main characters. I do have the American McDonald's toy of her (the one where she's in a ball). But it leaves a lot to be desired. I remember having the NOS-4-A2 figure as a kid, before I had even seen the show (I'd only seen the movie at the time). So I would use that figure to represent both Cackletta and Count Bleck (as I was a huge Mario fan who lacked very many toys of it so I'd use toys of other things to roleplay). At that point I didn't even know he was from Buzz Lightyear or Toy Story. I wish I still had it, since now that I've seen the show I really like NOS-4-A2 as a character. But alas, it was in my dad and stepmom's house and they were the type to go "toys are for kids only, you keep NOTHING"
Currently, the only one from this set I have is Booster, and he lacks any accessories. I have a McDonald's XR and the aforementioned Mira Nova as well as Commander Nebula, who is also inside a ball. I actually brought Booster with me to watch Lightyear in theaters, as kind of a last ditch hope that it would have any connection to the show. It did not. I still resent it for basically retconning and replacing Star Command.
Buzz Lightyear of Star Command Series and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command The Adventure Begins, with the voice of Tim Allen.⭐That is the best childhood series I've ever watch. When I was a little kid I've keep on watching it on Disney series. I have a figure of Nos-4-a2 the Energy Vampire one of my favorite Buzz Lightyear Villain. These Mettal Figure never gets old.

If I remember correctly, the Bazooka IS in the movie but it’s wielded by Commander Nebula once he’s been corrupted by the Zurgatronic Megaray.
Hi there! Thanks for the comment-yah that one in the movie IS similar as it is a big similar shoulder mounted gun/"bazooka", but the one Commander Nebula uses is blue instead of red and doesn't look exactly like the toy version. Good insight though!

It annoys me to no end that Lightyear wasn't a remaster of Star Command instead. It's as if it was made by people who hated him
Such an under rated corner of the Toy Story franchise. Much better than the recent Lightyear movie too.

Fun fact, the series was completed before the movie was made, technically The Adventure begins is a prequel to the series. Also the series and movie were both completed before the release of Toy Story 2. It was all originally voiced by Patrick Warburton, Tim Allen didn't come in until later to voice dub over Patrick for the Adventure Begins.
NOS 4 A2 (said "nose-4-A-2") is a spin on Nosferatu the original vampire before Dracula became the famous vampire.
I love Buzz Lightyear of Star Command! Still watch the movie and all the episodes pretty regularly with my kids. I have also got quite the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command collection.

Thanks for your thoughts! Yah I did know all that about the series, but since this wasn't a history of the actual series and more about the toys, I couldn't get into everything. And yah I did read about how NOS 4 A 2 is a reference to the classic original Vampire, but again I couldn't go into everything here trying to make it concise as possible (thanks for the pronunciation though), but I appreciate you dropping those facts here in the comments for others to discover! Still holding out hope it will one day hit Disney+, but I doubt it. Glad I at least have a DVD copy of the film to watch with my son! He LOVES it.

@Dan the Pixar Fan yeah I thought I'd share this in the comments as a trivia kinda thing to share, I meant no intention to out do, or correct your video 🙂. I am a bigger Buzz Lightyear nerd than I should admit, and it's something I only recently learned. You see all this debate over Tim Allen vs Chris Evans, and just think that Patrick Warburton voiced over a thousand of hours of Buzz Lightyear before Tim ever worked on Toy Story 2.
I wish I would have collected more from this series, but at the time I didn't think the toys would basically disappear, I regret not getting the XR remote control.
And I enjoy all your videos, my son loves the Lightyear ones and tries to get me to buy everything you show lol.

@Dan the Pixar Fan one thing I always wanted was a "The Art of Buzz Lightyear of Star Command" book, to this day I've always wondered how they decided on the appearance of Buzz, and the change in his spacesuit. There are a few concept art drawings out there, but they look like Toy Story Buzz and not the final version we see.
I don't remember how many times I'd watch, rewind, and watch my VHS lol.
I'll have to see if I can get my collection all together, I'm afraid a bunch is in storage now. But I have the 5" figures except NOS4A2, I have the blue space bikes, the full set of McDonald's toys, the interactive Buzz(s) and Zurg, one that also speaks French lol. The "flying" room guard, the talking aqua Buzz, some original promotional materials, books, coloring books, computer game, also on Dreamcast, the game boy color game, the movie on VHS, DVD, and a bootlegged version from Thailand. I have the movie, all 63 episodes, including the Patrick Warburton version of the pilot (the movie divided into episodes), and I forget what else lol.

I got all of them some unboxed from my childhood and have them again in box also Warp and the Buzz mega fig the aqua suit figure those are so nostalgic i have also all the toy story 2 by mattel line.

Hey thanks a TON! Yah I totally recommend any of these. They're great! You can find the Buzz figure pretty easily for around $30 on eBay-that's what I paid. Pretty expensive for what it is I know, but not outrageous I don't think. Best of luck!

Yep and they need this on Disney + like come on right also I might get these figures as I really love buzz Lightyear and I’m going to get the Australian buzz lightyear of star command figures happy meal ones I can’t wait to use them in my collection.
I'm ecstatic that Pixar just announced its 30th movie!!! I just hope that soon, some of them will gain popularity and stop being hated so much

There was a Mattel line of space figures "Planet Heroes" (Fisher-Price): Were they in any way connected to Buzz Lightyear? I pretended this was Buzz's son, Bud Lightyear in Star Command Academy, and that his Professor Blackhole was secretly an evil man planning to rule the universe.

Great review! That's a bit odd how they mixed Buzz cartoonish and toy look with these grey joints which are not even functional.
This figures release of Buzz/Toy Story related figures is my favourite series of figures. There were 2 series of these figures. Warp Darkmatter is my favourite figure and he had a slight variant release. I have a prototype of Warl Darkmatter also. Series 1 of this set is my of the 2 sets.

I feel like Agent-Z & Evil Buzz were inspired by Zurg from Lightyear. Angus Maclane stated that BLOSC was a spin-off cartoon.

I never understood why main characters kept being left out of toy waves in the past. Like with the original Bucky O'Hare figures, we were supposed to get Jenny, and we got pretty much every major character EXCEPT her. Wouldn't be until Boss Fight Studios made their sets decades later that she'd actually get a figure.

The Australian Happy Meal toy of Mira Nova is actually an ok figure to put with this set. If you come across one for a good price pick it up. Tho cos she has a "kicking" action, she doesnt stand up to easy as her kicking leg isnt to tight

I remember I had buzz and the space cycle, but the cycle broke after launching it downstairs and buzz was lost during the move so….yea sadge

I actually have a pitch for the premise of Toy Story 5 and I really want to know your thoughts. It takes place 5 years after Toy Story 4. Bonnie is now 10 years old and has completely abandoned her toys in favor of electronics. Her parents decide to put the toys in a yard sale because Bonnie doesn’t want them anymore. The toys then have to decide their future. Meanwhile, Woody and Bo Peep are still lost toys they notice that all traditional toys are being replaced by technology. It doesn’t help that there is an evil toy robot who wants to eliminate all traditional toys. So that is my pitch for the premise of Toy Story 5. I would want to know your thoughts and I’d also want to know if you would want to see what the entire plot would be like.

I know I’m a week late but how do you feel about Pixar now making a Toy Story 5? I’m kind of mixed on it because I’m not sure which direction the film would go in but I still think it could be good. We’ll have to see though.
I’m very mixed too. I’ll have to wait and see if I feel it’s worth it in the end. I’m one that still believes 3 is the true ending haha
