Many years ago I learned some rhythms to a kind of dance similar to this. But I don't know if it is a different style than this one or if it was changed. The person who taught me said it was called " African Slap Dancing" but I am unsure if there is such a thing or if they just called it that rather than calling it Gumboots dancing. And we didn't learn wearing gumboots. And when we made the rhythm with our hands we slapped our thighs rather than bending farther down to slap our lower legs. Would you know if these are two individual styles that are related to each other possibly by coming about in one region and changing as it caught on and travelled to another region? Or if what I learned was changed and possibly appropriated because it wasn't done in the traditional way in Gumboot style? I am very curious to know. Thank you for sharing your dance here!
