There's one bad thing about NZ though: its hard to get from one point to another when you have to stop every 5 seconds or so to take a picture because EVERYTHING IS JUST SO BEAUTIFUL ❤

There is another bad thing about the sth island. You end up with a sore neck looking up at the mountains. We have fixed that up north by arranging most of our mountains on the central plateau. It's much easier on the neck.

I recently discovered your channel as I wanted to give living in Shinjuku a shot. Experienced a lot of cool places all over Japan and built good memories, but now I'm nearing my end (and I can quite confidently say that Japan is not my cup of tea, tldr; felt too socially isolated). Seeing this showcase of my backyard at this stage almost made me tear up, Jesus. Can't wait to get back... makes me reflect where I've lived in my life - and Queenstown is hands down my favourite, even though you'd think it's touristy - which it is on the surface, but the communities behind the veils run thick. Especially fun if you're into trying out really new things, such as alpine climbing all forms of rock climbing, mountain biking etc...

Great video! My advice to anyone visiting NZ's South Island is to not try to do it all at once, because you end up with scenery overload. "Oh, there's another mountain, another lake, etc". The North Island has a tad more diversity to its landscape (except for alps) and culture, but it's not as accessible or tourist-friendly as the South Island.

Thanx for the lovely video. Yes, New Zealand is awesome. Here are 3 interesting stories from my week-long NZ trip years ago:
    1) I was driving to Queenstown in the afternoon from the north during harvest season (March), and stopped at a roadside produce stand. I saw something called "Black Boy" peaches, which looked like any other yellow peaches on the outside. I asked why these had this name and the store attendant said they were purple inside like a plum. I bought a couple and took off. While I was driving, I decided to eat one and it was about the most delicious thing I've ever tasted! It was so good I had to eat the other one right away. After getting back to the States, I looked to see if they were available anywhere here but I didnt see them anywhere. I sure wish they would import them here. It was almost worth going all the way there just to taste this fruit!
    2) I drove to Milford Sound w/o making a reservation first because it looked like there were 4 hotels there and I thought there should be no problem getting a room since it is so remote. While approaching, it started pouring down raining. I stopped at the first hotel I saw and asked for a room. They said they had none available because all the hikers on the trails came there to get out of the rain. I asked about other hotels and they said there was only 1 other one but told me it would probably be the same. I went over there and saw noone at the desk and I still didnt find any personnel after walking thru the entire hotel. I went back to the first hotel and I asked if there was anything they could do. They said they could put a cot in the ironing room and charge me a reduced rate. I didnt want to sleep all night in the car in the cold rain so I accepted (IIRC it was still about $50 US). It still makes me chuckle today when I think about the night I slept on a cot in the ironing room in a hotel in Milford Sound!
    3) Also on the way to Milford Sound, I encountered several bridges that were only one lane wide and had railroad tracks down the middle. Yes, NZ had bridges where trains and cars shared the same lane! These bridges were not too long but still maybe a quarter mile or so. It looked like these bridges were still being used by trains because these were the only tracks thru this part of the country, the tracks ran right beside the road thru a river valley for quite a few miles and I'm not sure but I may have even passed by a train on these tracks. I wondered whether cars ever went across these bridges before they heard or saw that a train was coming. It seemed like this could potentially happen. It amazed me how undeveloped NZ was for a "first-world" country, particularly the South Island. In the countryside, which is probably about 98% of the country, it looked more like a 3rd-world country. I was there in 1999 and I wonder if these bridges are still there.

In my strange brain, I always think of NZ South Island as being this strange mixture of the open grass/heather/treeless sheep covered mountains of Wales mixed with the bigger, taller, more extreme, but tree covered mountains of Japan.
Watching the video, I have simultaneous feelings of:
    - Want to take the train from Tokyo and go hiking in Okutama
    - Want to go "home" to Wales and hike in the Brecon Beacons/Snowdonia
    - Want to head to NZ for my first time and see Milford Sound

I went in the water at that same location earlier this year. 😆It was so darn cold, but just like you, felt amazing after. Now I have fallen in love with sauna and cold for all the benefits it provides. Not sure if you hiked the Rees Dart Track, but when I was there, I hiked several of the great walks and a few others and that was my favorite. Maybe an idea for your eventual return trip.

Now THIS, has been added to my travel plans next year. Hahah. Hopefully. What month did you go here? The weather seems pleasant. 😢❤🥹

A really great video and a great country.
We were there ourselves in November and December 2023 and were immediately enchanted. New Zealand has the strictest drone laws. All flights over DOC land must be registered in advance. I.e. really with coordinates. And then, of course, they have to be approved. Everything else is private land. Here, too, the owner must be asked in advance whether you are allowed to fly over his land. Flights over roads are generally prohibited. And of course the general laws in areas of airports etc. So a lot of effort in preparation if you want to fly a drone.

well, this was surreal to watch 🤣🤣🤣 as if i didn't already wanna go to NZ! this woulda sealed the deal omg. that Mt Cook is pretty peak mountain aesthetics 🤩 Milford Sound is gorgeous; the cello music was quite the complement. and that parrot! what a wonderful birb (although that duck, too. c'mere, duck) and omg 18:48 🙈 #bandannasquad4lyfe

When i visited NZ last year, a Kea landed on my shoulder like it was nothing. It ignored me and was like "Excuse me. Coming through" It's real objective was to get into my camera bag. lol. before i knew what it was doing, it climbed down my back and pulled some threads out of my bag near the zipper trying to get in. They have sharp beaks and are indeed VERY cheeky. Definitely one of my favorite animals now. I bought a magnet that has a Kea carrying off a traffic cone lol

Such a beautiful video. I’ve always wanted to go to New Zealand but part of me wondered if I would appreciate it as much coming from Western Canada, but I think the differences in wildlife and the fact that it seems relatively easy to get around is promising. Also, that camper van is beautiful, would love to try that out. just one note though, the link in your description has an error, so it doesn’t actually redirect to their website. I was able to figure it out, but just wanted to mention it.

Alberta and British Columbia are also stunning. I think the main difference is that you have to travel far to see all of western Canada's beautiful scenery, whereas in Otago, it is all within a small area. You are bombarded with scenery at every turn.

It's ridiculous how great the weather is. Was this filmed recently in the middle of winter? I went during spring time and the road to Te Anau was closed, my flights were canceled, and my glacial hike was also canceled 😂 At least the weather was decent at Lake Pukaki, Wanaka, and Abel Tasman.
    New Zealand is absolutely beautiful.
