    "That's dumb as shit" is stated as a fact in a direct response to a players move, which can easily be looked at as you calling them dumb on a personal level. Whether that is your intention or not. Especially if they are already insecure about messing up.
    Maybe focus your passion on good plays? Be pumped about cool things happening instead of being negative on bad plays.
    Truth be told, this kind of thing put me off of tournaments. I want to participate in one, but if I had to deal with someone saying my play is dumb as shit I would be pretty annoyed. Like its one thing to be competitive and want everyone to play well but its ultimately a multiplier social format GAME. When all I'm trying to do is have fun and push my limits, I'd personally respond pretty poorly to someone swearing at me.

    "It's not toxic that I care a lot." No, what's toxic is your response to those emotions that you're feeling. Might I recommend therapy? It can really help you with your responses to emotional situations, and as someone who has struggled with anger in the past, mindfulness is a powerful tool to remove yourself from the immediate situation and come back with a fresh take. Also, realizing that some situations can be out of your control, and really focusing on what you personally can do to control yourself through that uncontrollable situation is the best way to overcome the struggles that you are facing.

    Look I'm going to be honest I'm 26 minutes in and I just can't watch the rest.
    The only example that's been given is one where you said "That's dumb as shit". This seems more cut and dry than you're making it.
    You've gone beyond competitiveness into rudeness and you just have to apologize and promise to do better.
    This video was like 10% actually recognizing that you need to consider other people's feelings and 90% explaining away your behavior and acting like it was a judgment handed down to the entire CEDH community and not just you.
    Yes this does have ramifications for other people.
    But right now you just need to apologize, not speculate wildly about how this affects everyone as if you're the victim. Especially from the community's view who was not there and doesn't know anything except for what they've heard. You need to make it really simple for people if you want them to come back to your channel and your coaching and keep your livelihood.
    There's no reason why this should have been a 45 minute long discussion. A 10 or 15 minute apology video would have sufficed.
    This is just too much faffing about and explaining away your behavior for me. I'm not sure that I'm going to be coming back.
    I feel like the only way to rebound from this at this point is to make a very clear statement on social media about how you understand that these behaviors are not acceptable. And then leave it at that.

    • @SHMITEY1

      @@SHMITEY1 he put out a short statement that didn't say much and mostly said that he needed to think about his behavior and a longer statement will come later. If this is the longer statement that I'm not too impressed.
      All we needed to hear was a firm apology to the people that he hurt and not an extra 35 minutes of faffing around, acting like the victim, and generalizing this as if it's a condemnation on politics as a whole , rather than just a verdict based on his bad behavior.
      I was really looking forward to the longer statement because I figured it would just be an apology with nothing added to it to try to soften it or disperse the blame. I never figured it would be a 45-minute long podcast of diffusing and dispersing with a few sincere moments sprinkled in.

    • @ColorsAreACrutch
      @ColorsAreACrutch  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      This was not meant to be a longer statement. This was a friend reaching out and offering to just have a short healthy conversation and update and clarify some things. Was not meant to be a statement. My initial statement included an apology to the community. I do not think every single thing I release needs to include an apology. I am sorry for anything I have done to anyone in this community that has made them feel anything negative. It has never been my intention to make anyone feel bad.

    • @ironjawedangels2812
      @ironjawedangels2812 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@ColorsAreACrutch I'm glad your friend was able to be there for you during a hard time.
      But this is the first thing that most people have heard from you about this aside from your short Twitter statement, detailing that we will hear more soon. It just doesn't look good to release it as a podcast episode. This easily could have just been a private conversation with your friend.
      Most of this episode did just feel like rationalizing away your actions and getting consoled by a friend. While there were moments that felt very genuine, all of the rest of it that felt like you were excusing your actions really made the whole thing feel less sincere.
      I feel like it's way better PR to just do a short public apology video or a longer statement on twitter and then just be done with it publicly.
      I just don't think that this comes off very well personally.

      Then you're inviting the other player to learn something instead of telling them they don't know what they are doing .

    I was standing next to the table at cowtown where the controversial redemption pod took place. I wanted to mention that there was another player at the table that was constantly interrupting, yelling, and bringing a huge amount of attention to himself and the table and it wasn't Max. Max was engaging all players but not in a way that was combative or inappropriate. And then, when the guy that Max coaches punted the game and began welling up, Max took him to the side and consoled him to make sure he was ok and shield him from public embarrassment.
    I haven't played with Max a ton but he seems to be getting very little credit for the empathy he showed there. Either way, something obviously needs to change for him generally but I thought it was important to report what I witnessed in that game.

At this point I do wish I had taken the explicit time to give another apology as that is legitimately how I feel. Here I was just answering the questions I was asked. • @Aesthetics87
    @Aesthetics87 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    It's a little upsetting to see him try and rationalize through some of his behavior as "appropriate for some but not for others" and kind of describe a lot of it as behavior or emotion that's "misunderstood" by others. It's almost as if you're implying that you're more competitive than other people and that's the explanation for how you behave towards others in tournaments which is nonsense. Everyone is competitive. You have to draw a line with what you're willing to do in order to win -- and how you express yourself when you're upset because you can't win. This is partially the fault of a broken foundation of rules for CEDH right now which encourages people to step over the line like you did.
    If I've been in verbally abusive relationships throughout my childhood, I can't go to MTG events and verbally abuse players because that's what I'm familiar with and how I've learned to communicate. If you have people coming up to you after a game legitimately concerned and assuming you are mad at them over details of the game, there is 100% chance this is a you problem and you should probably drill down on that instead of focusing on trying to offer dialogue that can come off as an effort to save face. When your podcast co-host is coming out and stating that you essentially are overstepping and that this needed to happen, there's 100% chance that this is a you problem.
    When you say you need to "devote energy to masking emotion", what you need to do is control yourself -- and the fact that you're putting effort into making this more complicated than it really is makes it seem like you aren't familiar with the accountability you need to take.
    Considering how pro-politics you are, something you should consider is that you are actually making the concept of politics in CEDH look bad because you can't get away from yourself and demonstrate self control in these games and that's why you were given a timeout. You have a vibe of narcissism to you that most people seem to be aware of and you're going to have to learn how to be mindful of that and keep that at bay if you don't want to run into further issues. I apologize if this came off as critical of you and I completely believe you're capable of being better but this video was a bad example of accountability on your part.

    The problem with this game being 99% introverts means if you are that 1% that openly speaks your mind/opinion with confidence, and have had a slightly rougher upbringing, then you are often looked at as aggressive. Which it is often not. I have lost count of the amount of times I have suggested someone not waste X on Y, only to have them staring at me like a deer in headlights. And I am SO far from being upset it's not funny.
    Swearing is the big thing, the second you throw a Fk into a heated conversation it becomes something else. Them's fighting words, brother. And this is where the 99% introverts comes back onto it i think, as they will choose flight over fight at every opportunity.
    Insert a philosophical quote here, i cant think of one 🍻

      You can be an extrovert and still treat others respectfully. If this wasn’t an isolated incident, how can you blame the more sensitive players in the situation? But 100% agree that swearing only escalates the situation.

      Trust me fucks are thrown all the time but it’s all about the tone, moment and delivery. I never played against Wounded, but I curse all the time and several people also curse at the table there’s a different between “I’m out of this fucking game” and “what you’re doing is fucking stupid” you know?

    • @brendans1983
      @brendans1983 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agree with both of you, delivery is everything. I am not taking sides. I don't know enough about the situation to go that far.
      I swear like a trooper too. Just my appearance can come across as intimidating to some people. Which is all I was trying to do; explain that a +6ft tall, confidant, fit, tanned man with a beard saying the word Fk in the exact same way, tone and situation as a shorter, less confident, pale, unfit guy with baby face can, and will be, received completely differently. It's the human condition. And it's just unfortunate if you are the former in a room full of the latter, because you need to recognise that.

    I spent all of my 20's chasing my dream of playing professional paintball and I learned an immense amount about myself trying to flourish in such a cut throat environment. I am very passionate about competition but I have found there is an enormous difference between the nature of players in these two worlds and it has been a difficult adjustment for me as a guy who is used to chirping at opponents and playing mind games. In either competitive forum there is no excuse for being out right abusive to other players but in my mind there is a clear line between being a strong competitor and being abusive. Looking at Max's example of the Cyc rift Chimera situation, to me that reads as someone making a mistake and getting called on it and then getting their feelings hurt. Even if the choice of words isn't ideal it does not and will never read to me as a direct and personal attack on someone. I guess my point is I don't see his conduct as ban worthy and now because of the Internet dog piling this guy it's hurting his livelihood. It feels wrong in this situation. Also disclaimer I have played against Max twice in events, he won both games and he was active in player discussion and there was a brief moment he and another player argued over countering another player's spell. Never once did I see his actions as ban worthy. I think Max should take some time to be introspective and figure out his path forward. I hope to see him making more content and top4ing events again in the very near future.

    While I genuinely appreciate and applaud wounded’s response and self awareness for the need to grow. This feels like a miss or a “signpost banning” from topdeck. I hope nothing but excellent things for Wounded moving forward. He’s an all star on behalf of the community and shouldn’t let this hiccup impact his passion and love of the game. Keep your chin up Max!

    After watching many videos with Wounded and having been coached by him, i honestly feel like this is an overreaction to a situation. Yes, the powers to be at any tournament or event should step in and investigate these situations and handle them to the best of their abilities. I agree that people should take others' feelings into account and attempt to adjust accordingly. However, that goes both ways. To say that, Max is 100% the issue is crazy. He takes ownership of the issue, and that shows maturity. At the same time, we need to understand that people have different personalities and attitudes. We can't expect everyone to conform to a single mindset. That is what makes commander a great format, seeing how everyone is different and can still come together! We need diversity in people and play styles. I've had games with aggressive, laid back, straight-up liars lol and everyone in-between. Just enjoy your time and learn from every game and player. I want people to be invested the games we play, and that means having everyone at the table and being them selves. Max has my support! This is a learning opportunity for everyone, not just Max. I really hope you dont let this beat you down man. Keep up the great work and fantastic vids.
