Aron probably sees so many concept icons and knows the abilities by they internal prototype names.
In the game director’s defense, when I worked as a QA on a live service game, most of the abilities in the test builds either had placeholder names and placeholder icons, no names/icons at all or just random names/icons made up on the spot. Most of that stuff didn’t get finished until the release build which by that point you’re so far ahead in the seasons that old stuff is being updated or reworked completely.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Hell even playing the game normal I don't call things by their actual names I call it really dumb niche names me and my friends say

I chased Gavin, but Hanzo's Lunge got me. The last one is quite a tricky thing. Poor Aaron. His brain is so full that he forgets the ability icons.
Honestly icons and names of abilities are just so useless that you don't ever call it by their names and honestly ow2 heroes I have zero clue about the icons 😂
@ondrejlukas326 You must not use the Hud at all. I use the icons all the time. Then again, I am pretty sure I count as a flex main, considering I am usually the one swapping to counter. HuD icons are likely more useful to those of us who swap frequently and rely more heavily on the Hud and F1 screens.

See the thing that I think throws Aaron off is that internally every name is totally different from what we oublically call it. So I bet his instinct is to use the internal names xD like remember they still call phara mercy internally cuz that was her original name

Not sure i think they did mention it but i cant remember. But yeah all the heros have internal names, you can even hear aaron say this as the beginning he says "Oh what do you guys call this" refrencing he knowns the internal but not the external.

Not everyone on the dev team needs to know icons and names of abilities. Some focus on programming, others on art. When it comes to balancing the name isn't important either, only what the ability does.
100% if you asked all of them what abilities each hero has and they do, they'd all be able to answer, even if they didn't know the ability names.
Why would the game director need to know names and ability icons lol. He oversees everyone else making the game, and if / when he does it’s probsbly in play tests multi seasons in advance with placeholder icons and names

Hanzo Lunge and Zaryas passive were tough because you don't look at the cooldown of Hanzos dash and you can't see Zaryas passive in-game....but good quiz though
dang the only ones i missed were hanzo dash (i refuse to ever touch that character), the name of sig's shield, and the zarya passive lol

Well yeah any mechanic a character has that their abilities centre around is usually inbuilt as a passive

The guy who actually has something to do with the Balance is the one who Goated. The one who takes care of the big picture and trying to get funding is the one who didn't. Gavin is in charge of game design. Aaron is in charge of trying to get his team paid.

I know all of the moves in overwatch and I don’t play all of them
You'd ask me to draw the icons of my characters that I have 2000 hours on and I couldn't do it, I can recognize them but don't take noteo f their specifics. The OW icons for abilities are generic, bland and many of them are confusing. The people that think this means anything beyond being a silly game are very, very dumb. If anything this is testing how bad or good an icon is and how some of the names are silly and irrelevant to the reality of what is intuitive to call them.

@pes-_ well yeah, it makes sense y Gavin knows much more than Aaron, but you'd expect the director to have SOME kind of knowledge of the game he's directing, especially with how much he talks to content creators. You'd expect his knowledge of the game to at least be bare bones, but he doesn't even have that
Do you think a developer that's working on a alpha version of the game that's 6 months ahead of the main game would know everything about the game in its current state? He's just a director, not a direct developer and bug fixer. He probably hasn't seen an official icon in years since he's been working on placeholder icons and abilities for so long
@anonyma464 reread my comments... I understand why he doesn't have a massive knowledge of icons, but to have ZERO knowledge of ANY icons, even for characters that came out recently? That's crazy to me
@@coach9313 he knows what abilities heroes have , we see him mention several, it's just not recognizing the icons, that even Jay3 struggled with. Some people are just bad at memorizing pictograms, and it's not like you need to learn them to play the game, most of the time you only look at them to check the cooldown timer

I don’t know how I feel about people who govern the game not even know what the abilites are. I can understand not playing the game cuz their busy monitoring it but at least know some of the iconic hero abilities. If not the name at least the hero abilites of said character.
Don't you think they tweak designs and names countless times over the course of making a hero? Just because us normal players only see the finished version that doesn't mean they automatically forget possibly hundreds of designs for icons and different names they've messed with before settling on the final one. Odds are they shorthand most of the names too just like the rest of the community. Like calling Winston's and Zarya's shields bubbles.
