He was playing for boca newells old boys in Argentina at a young age but they were unable to pay for his treatment so he moved to Barca with his family at the age of 13 and was playing at the academy alongside fabregas. He was supposed to play for Arsenal but they couldn't agree on taking care of his illness so instead they took fabregas and left Messi. Barca was able to pay for his treatment and he sign his professional deal with the club and have been at the team since he was 15. He won his first world's best (ballon d or ) at the age of 22

I will try to explain the whole history of Messi in FCBarcelona: when Messi was 11 years old was diagnosed with growth hormone dificiency, in that moment he was playing for Newells (the football club of Messi's hometown). The treatment was too expensive so Newells couldn't affored.. He and his dad went to Buenos Aires and explained to River (one of the greatest footballs clubs in Argentina) the situation, the club wanted Messi but didn't want to pay the treatment.
FCBarcelona has always been known for La Masia that is the youth academy of FCBarcleona based in a big catalan house where the young foreign players live and go to school to, not only for football, but also for basketball, handball, hockey, futsal..., so FCB called Leo and his family so they could watch him play... A match was organized and Leo played with boys two years older than him, the technical secretary of the club (Carles Rexach) saw him play and said immediately that they should sign him. A monh passed and nobody said or do anything, so the family thought FCB didn't want little Leo, and when Rexach knew that they where leaving, picked up a bar napkin where he was and wrote Messi's first contract with the club.
16 years later Messi still plays with FCB, is one of the captains and also plays with one of his teammates in that first match that was organized to see him, Gerard Pique (shakira's husband).

His parents decided to get treatment for him which cost several hundred dollars, i think it was about ,$700 a month and it was very expensive. Later on, the Barcelona youth academy heard about Messi and wanted him in their youth academy so they said we will pay for the treatment if Messi plays for us.

as i know he had that hormone problem and couldn't afford it but even at a really young age he was very good and barca made a deal that if he plays with barca and moves to spain from argentina they will pay the Treatments. so if he wouldn't have gotten those treatments he would be 1.40 cm now but because of them he has grown up to 1.69 cm ( which is still very small for a football player).he got injections in his legs as i remember. and since then he is playing for barca and calls it in most of his interviews home. hope it is helpful keep up the good work i love your reactions of him ❤️

Sorry my english is not that good but i'm going to try to explain, messi had a growth hormon problem and the treatment was to expenssive, and he and his father almost go back to argentina to search another solution but a former from "la masia" (kids theam of barcelona) offer a contract to messi's father in a nappkin offering to pay for his treatment.
