Marcus Mosiah Garvey, the master organiser, was born into Jamaica's colonial system and decided to fight for change. After reading Booker T Washington's autobiography, he was devoted to teaching the black community the importance of being self-reliant through education. He had high aspirations for building a worldwide organisation to empower people of African descent. His goals would inspire later leaders like Kwame Nkrumah, Steve Biko, and Malcolm X. Garveyism symbolised the transformation of how black people worldwide looked at themselves and their place in the world.
Garveyism taught that Black people would only be recognised when they were economically and spiritually strong, preached an independent Black economy within the structure of white capitalism, and inducted a black spiritual leader, a flag and a black national anthem. The UNIA established the Negro Factories Corporation, the Black Star shipping Line (1919) and a chain of businesses, including grocery shops, restaurants, a printing press, laundries and a hotel.
As today is Black Pound Day, it feels more than fitting for this video.

The Black Star Line, was established to set up trade between the Negro, and Africa. People that were working for Garvey, had no experience with high finance, some were stealing, some were working for the government. Please read, Black Power and the Garvey Movement, by Theodore G. Vincent. There are many other books, but this is one of the BEST. If possible, get the Philosphy and Opinions, of Marcus Garvey, written by Amy Garvey.

My Grandfather Dr. Alfred. C . Patterson was a Garveyite and worked tirelessly with Mr. Garvey while in Harlem. My Mother and Grandmother, Aunt and Uncle would always tell us of the time when they were away and returned home and my Grandfather had everything packed and was ready to leave on the Black Star Liner. Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X, were my heros. I was never a follower of MLK. I have researched and studied Marcus Garvey since the sixties. I first learned of him when I was in the Black Panthers, (Illinois Chapter). His saying was, Africa for the Africians, at home and abroad." When it came to education, he use to say, "Read, read, read, until you have conquored the secrets of the universe." I loved Marcus. My God Mother, Lucinda Johnson, was a member of the Black Star Nurses. (Lousiana Chapter.)

These characters mentioned in the Bible really did exist historically.
But let's put the Bible aside.
Take Jesus as an example. His mother was not a virgin. As was God not his father. He did not turn water into wine. Neither did he perform miracles or walk on water.
But he is an historical character.
The Roman records make mention of him.
Moses did not part the Red Sea. He did however lead the Jews out of Egypt.
