PADDLING THE TUMUT RIVER IN INFLATABLE BOATS

We bought $40 inflatable boats from Anaconda and spent a hot sunny Saturday on the Tumut River. It turned out one of the funniest days we'd had in a long time.
We camped at the caravan park in town and then drove two cars up to the river entry point near the dam wall, just up past the foot bridge. Once unloaded the boys drove the cars back to the caravan park and then caught a Taxi back to the launch point. We had eskys full of snacks, beer, sun cream and water. The river was flowing quite hard so we didn't really need to paddle other than moving ourselves left and right to avoid hazards. Winga cooked up a massive feed for lunch before we continued the rest of the trip back to the caravan park. The whole day took about 6hours. Highly recomend it, just make sure you have a good quality kayak style paddle, no matter waht vessel you choose.

I'm totally going to do that! From what I've seen the outflow from Blowering keeps the river running pretty hard most of the time, yet still a nice leisurely run. Might give the toy boats a miss though.

Yeah for sure. It is a cruisey run. Water is very cold. If you had a proper kayak, you'd get through it way quicker. You should definitely do it.

Was unreal. Funny day! It was definitely higher than normal, hence the 6hr journey with minimal paddling and a lunch stop.
