  • Adam unboxes Regal Robot's new prop replica of the Holy Grail Chalice from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade! Part of Regal Robot's Archive Collection, this replica was created using a scan of the original hero prop from the film, hand painted and weathered to give it a distinct terra cotta look with gold leaf finish. A fine piece added to Adam's Indiana Jones prop collection!

I've identified at least 3 grails on screen in the film. This replica appears to be based on the True Hero Grail, the first one we see when Indy "chooses wisely" and drinks from in the grail knight's room. We also see it in the close up when Indy touches it hanging in the crevasse. It has an unlevel mouth, and the original now has a Lucasfilm inventory number on the bottom. It was on display at ILM for several years.
The second grail in the film I call Henry's grail. It has different details and paint, but similar in color with a bit more patina. This is the one Indy carries out to Henry, is later picked up by Elsa, and we also see it laying on the stone shelf in the crevasse.
The third one is a stunt grail probably made of hard rubber. It's first seen creating the foaming effect on Henry, probably vinegar poured onto a baking soda wound or similar. The paint is primarily brown instead of the reddish clay of the other 2, and has lost most of its inner gold leafing. This grail is also seen bouncing around the floor and falling into the crevasse after Elsa drops it.
I have seen another grail at Skywalker Ranch, which doesn't seem to match any of the screen used ones. It may be a test, or a duplicate made for display...

As a replica of the movie prop it’s top tier!!!
On another archaeological turn: ever since I first saw the movie I had to go along with the “this is the cup of a carpenter” jazz knowing full well a common 1st century ceramic cup did not have a stem like that! I work with an archaeological pottery specialist on digs in Israel and I showed him the “carpenter’s cup” and he just laughed! HOWEVER, The Last Crusade being a movie and image is everything the art director of course had to come up with something common but still look grail-ish. And they succeeded!

Frankly, if you take pretty much any hollywood movie containing historical objects and show them to expert in the field, it would only produce laugh.
      Or cringe.
Like, for instance, hollywood "russians" speaking "russian" with such a crude accent, real russians can barely understand it.

I have a photoscan of the exact screen used grail that Indy first picks and drinks from in the knight's chamber. It used to be displayed in one of the hallways at ILM, and I photographed it twice, 2 years apart. It just happened that at some point it was taken out and put back rotated 180° between photos, which gave me a complete scan! I've identified at least 3 grails on screen in the film. I've screen matched all the details of the paint job, and this replica looks very close to that painting style.

Something I never got; why are there gold splotches on the Grail?

I am 34 years old. I idolize Indiana Jones, ever since I first saw it when I was 8. I know the history of Jesus and the Grail from being raised catholic. I always thought it was a stoneware or earthen grail with gilding on the inside. Fitting enough, I thought putting gold gilding on the inside was to help keep it clean and showcase your wealth. Being a carpenter, Jesus didn't have much money but he might have spent it on something simple that he would use every day. I DID NOT REALIZE that the entire thing was gilded, and the clay/earthen texture was actually Christ's blood from when he was stabbed through the heart by one of Pilot's soldiers. They collected his blood in this chalice, and it stained the gold with his blood. Amazing!

"The cup of a carpenter" always bugged me; it was a catered affair. "The cup of an innkeeper's bulk order for the dining rooms", would be more accurate. AND add on that one of the apostles had to have stolen it from the innkeeper so that it didn't end up cleaned and back on the shelf with the rest of the drinking vessels for the upstairs dining room.

Hello Adam❤ thanks for keep doing so valuable content since so long. I've grown watching MBs and I'm so happy that I found Tested because I really missed the show, and your lightning energy of savage wisdom haha thanks for that, and a curious thing, actually, the Saint grail is the son of Jesus, there is an actuall object that he used, wich is a vessell with letters that translated reads " Christ the magician" I'll send a link to a photo of it and a little background maybe,
