my grandfather moved from hong kong to jamaica (where i was born) & i have always wanted to visit. watching your channel with my mom has given her the opportunity to share many stories about him that i had never heard before. thank you so much for sharing your experience with us! ❤
I’m glad you show HKC. As a 3rd generation Chinese Canadian, I always heard my grandpa praise his native city. I believe each minority and each province in China has their local culture and their identity. HKC is also different. I grewup hearing my parents cantonese pop song and watch HK drama and evening shows. I visit once HKC. I realize that our Canadian Cantonese recipe are sweeter for the sqme pastry and the American version is usually more salty for the same dumpling. The downside of HKC is how dense the city is… it’s almost suffocating. We were use to more green space … i was pretty much depressed the whole week there. But the pros is the people. I love the sens of humor and self derision of the locaux. They are quite open to western culture and they cherish friendship as much than family. In China, family always come first and may be only aspect of of your social life. I believe two factors may explain it: 1) the tiny living space HKC , most people spend most of their day outside their appartement so they need buddies to hangout 2) the colonisation past had bring wealth for the last century and people can afford to have hobbies and entertainment for a long time now The big downside is everything is much more expensive than the rest of China. Here we needs to tips like in North America but you don’t in China…but maybe it has change in China since I visited.
Hong Kong is a beautiful place with many unique sides. You showed where ordinary people get their breakfast, do shopping and walk around in their community. You choose to appreciate as you tour the city. Excellent job!
You are such a gentle sweet lady. Don't try to please everyone, you can't. Just continue to make your beautiful videos who wants to watch will watch. Just block the haters ! Carry on my dear and thank you very much . God bless ! Greetings from USA 🇺🇸
I think you can tell by now having been to Malaysia for a month......that we malaysian chinese including myself(Cantonese/Hokkien peranakan) are very proud of our chinese heritage and burning with pride of china's achievements at the same time love our country Malaysia dearly:)
@@maxdc988 smhhhh, he said China's achievements , e.g. look at the positives of the country( inventions, scientists,e.g...) , each country has its faults. Be proud of our fellow chinese. He did not mention the government. Why have to be like that lah.
Honest question wanting honest answer. In the coming bloody war in east asia that the west/nato appears determined to spread to the East, do malaysian-chinese side with china or america? What about singapore-chinese? Looks like singapore (and philippines) gov't have already sided with US. I love how open and understanding you are everywhere you visit! That’s how passionate travelers are 🥰 We travel to experience new things and to meet new people, right? Thank you. You put enormous effort into your work. Your videos are beautiful. You are beautiful. Your parents did a wonderful job raising such a polite, mannerly and respectful human being. I am hooked on your travels. Again, thank you from Galway City on the West Coast of Ireland.
Hi. I just found your channel today. Im loving your travel vlogs so much. I suffer from high anxiety an depression, but your videos has helped me calm down today. I think you make great videos, and its nice to learn more about different places. Sending love from Norway🇳🇴☺️
Hong Kong was where I first landed upon visiting China in 2007. I loved it! Rode in an openair double-decker bus and marveled at the huge trees. I no longer remember their name. I bought pastry in a shop & when I said "thank you" in Mandarin the clerk was surprised! I was thrilled to see the Chinese medicine shops. Super thrilled to see high scaffolding made of bamboo. The crowded streets, endless shops & good-natured bustling around were really fun!
Love and Big Welcome to Hong Kong, Yan ! While Hong Kong is famous to regular tourists for food and crowds, its numerous and very accessible countryside, very long coastline, beaches and tucked away islands are unbelievably green and quiet. Next time Yan, welcome to spend a little more time to savour this UNSEEN and Best secret side of our beloved Hong Kong !
I have been to Hong Kong, many years ago, the British were still on power. I loved the place, I did prefer it compare to New York, for example, it was expensive, but very organised, clean, and I have enjoyed. I also went to Lantau Island, saw the Tian Tan Buddha, that it was "something", I had a meal in the monastery with the monks. Yan, you are very good in doing videos, and you are also speaking clearly, interesting to hear about your discovery's, very pleasant , nice and lovely person you are.
Nice to see you safely in Hong Kong. It's unfortunate that we Chinese are divided into various nationalities due to the countries we are living in. But we are truly one in heart and nature. I have been called a China man in Malay language it's orang China; even though I was born and bred in Malaysia. But it doesn't hurt us very much. For me I always look forward to seeing the best in everything and everyone. It's a shame that geopolitics have changed the landscape of human solidarity and society into something that we appreciate anymore.
3:16. I feel you with the difference between the two languages. I studied Russian and Bosnian. Same alphabet but it's different. And those issues are everywhere. Like politics. In America everything's political. Messes up everything. But I love the videos. This is how we fix everything. Showing the world what it's like naturally. I would love to visit Asia, but I'm black, and I know the culture. 1 white covers 3 blacks. so I'll just watch the videos. Love the videos.
At 14:30 of your video, you saw a long queue outside a congee shop (the same type where you buy your breakfast rice roll), you wondered what it is. I am not sure of the answer but one possibility is, this shop gives away free congee/food to elders at the time. During the last 20+ years, many food shops in Hong Kong started to give away free food boxes (say, 100 - 150) to elders on certain days in the week. Usually the elders live nearby and some shops require pre-qualification to ensure only the needy are served. One roast meat shop on Kowloon side served a great number of free meals (all paid for by the owner, Brother Ming who only made a modest living) and it got so famous, others will come by, donate money to ensure Brother Ming can carry on the work and for more people. It is like food bank, but all started off with the kindness of individual shop owners. People of Hong Kong are proud of this custom of giving. Such charity work also extend to giving to other places outside Hong Kong, like Africa and China (in the 1980s and 1990s). We are happy to share what we have.
Very nice video. You have a sense of wide-eyed wonder in Hong Kong, just like us. We have visited Hong Kong five times over forty years, and every time we are there we have the same sense of wide-eyed wonder that we had the first time. It is a marvelous, beautiful, busy place filled with millions of kind and wonderful people.

Thank you for this visit to HK. I really enjoyed the 'beating the petty man' segment. If only more people could deal with their frustration in a symbolic way. In many places it seems we have a culture of rage, where people are primed to confront each other with violent words or actions.
