- Here's a quick look at the weights of these 3 popular shafts in the most popular spine sizes 340,300,250 and most common cut length. For those of you out there trying to decide on what spine and what weight it will give you here's the options. Keep in mind you can increase point weight if you are looking for more FOC on these builds.

Solid info thanks for taking the time to do this
Saving this video for ordering my next arrows from you after hunting seasons over. Thanks for the detailed breakdown.
Top 10! Thanx for the info Dud. We appreciate all the work you guys put into these videos and the knowledge bombs are amazing!
Great info as always....Love the way you give out your info and knowledge to all of us archers....Appreciate what you do.... You are a special person...
That 250 Sonic three fletch cut to that length with 75 gr of brass is what I shoot for hunting. It flys awesome with 125-150 grain fixed blade or 100 grain mechanicals. Solid arrow!
@dennyroszell8744, what's your draw length? I'm stuck on buying arrows. I'm 70lb @30". Contemplating 250s, but almost every chart is sayin 300? @nockonarchery
@@austinogrady8832, I would go with the 250s at your DL and DW. Better to be slightly over spined than under spined. The only trade off is the higher GPI and total weight with the 250s.
Great info! Got my exact arrow on there, 340 Spine, 100gr tip, 50gr brass and 28” cut. Things are tack drivers with my Hoyt VTM 31. I am loving them and I will be buying another batch when they are back in stock! 🤘🏻
Great video series. Have opened my eyes and am looking at things much differently now. Any chance you might be working on a video on larger diameter target arrows for indoors?
Do a video on let-off weights and the pros and cons of what to use please!
The Hexx 250 (mine were late in production and say made in the USA, so maybe and early Sonic) with 75 gr of brass is what I use the most often and have shot from javelina up to a 450 lb black bear that with a Slick Trick Viper Trick cut through the edge of the shoulder blade on the exist and still buried in the ground. Bear only went 8 feet.
Thank you
28” carbon to carbon match grade Axis 300 shaft.
50 grain brass HIT insert.
4 fletch w/ arrow wrap, X nock
100 grain Grim Reaper fatal steel.
504 grains total arrow weight, pulling 70lbs with a 28 1/2” draw length. 👍
The set up I’m running here In Australian is I’m Shooting a Hoyt ventum 30 @ 70lbs and my draw length is 29.5”
Arrow set up
Nexxus Arrow + insert/oz cut broadhead
350 spine/ 8.87 GPI
Arrow length is 26.75”
Broadhead weight / outside is 125/50
4 flèche + wrap
Total arrow weight is 433.27 shoots at about 280 fps foc 15.1% and my kinetic is about 76.49 ft-lbs
I’ve been struggling with which spine sonics to go with. My Mathew’s v3x 33 has the 70# mods with 30 inch draw. My arrows are typically 28.75 carbon to carbon. I usually like to stay around 450 to 470 total arrow weight with a mechanical however would like to play with a fixed head as well and wonder which spine would allow me to play but still tune and group awesome.
Any help Mr. Dud would be awesome!!!
Hey Dud, how accurate do you think Archer’s Advantage is with these different variables? I put a lot of my trust in it before spending money on new arrows
It’s very accurate if you are precise with what you put in. If you guess on something it can make a big difference
Yeah, I wish it would specify how it actually measures arrow length (end of nock, throat of nock, or shaft to shaft). But I figure as long as I keep it all the same when measuring and cutting myself, it controls for that variable@@nockonarchery
@nockonarchery, im stuck deciding what spine I'd need. I wanna shoot 125s with 50gr inserts. Im 70lb @ 30" with 25gr of fletch and luminocks?
What lighted nocks are you using that are only 12 grains? The illuminocks i have are 23 grains roughly. That's a big difference.
Im pretty sure its the difference grain weight between plastic nock vs lighted nock. Lumenocs weigh about 23 gr vs plastic around 12 gr.
@@rocco4450 Maybe, just the way he said, it makes it sound like the luminocks he uses are only 12 grains. Maybe I just misinterpreted it.
Yes, its a difference between the X nock and the lighted knock, like you said. @@rocco4450
Can I use a 340 spine if my bow draw weight is set at 50lbs? I’m new to compound so I’m starting with 50lbs. My draw length is 28”. Shooting a pse fortis 33
The 340 with 75 of brass could be a good option if you’re looking for more overall weight. You could also be in a 400 spine but you will have limitations on how much point weight you could go up to. However this past week I built a 52lb-26” levitate for someone and I did the 400 spine sonic with 50 grain of brass up front and a cut on impact broadhead
@@nockonarchery cool thanks John. And what is a good rule of thumb when cutting arrows? How long should they be with my draw length?
What lighted nock is only 12 grains? All the ones I know about are 23-25 grains.
You have to add the number because I’ve factored in the weight of the standard nock. The difference is 12gr
How is cut determined?
I like to make sure my blades are not behind my have. I cut my length at the front edge of the riser. Best thing is to draw back and have someone mark an arrow there at the spot and then measure from end of nock to the marker
Thank you kindly sir.!! Hope your day is wonderful and never stop teaching.
