My dad customed my ATAT back in the day by inserting a calculator led display into the cockpit. It was utterly amazing seeing these garbled led characters lighting up the cockpit.
Wabi-sabi. “In traditional Japanese aesthetics, wabi-sabi (侘寂) is a world view centered on the acceptance of transience and imperfection. The aesthetic is sometimes described as one of appreciating beauty that is "imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete" in nature. It is prevalent in many forms of Japanese art.”
Hey Dave A great outcome, it will look amazing among your displays. I really enjoy your customs. I hope you and MrsTP have a wonderful weekend. Take care😊
Looks fantastic! Just a thought, if you could cut out two small pieces of silver metal tape used in HVAC sealing, and put them on the underside of the cockpit doors, it would give that reflective red glow that was in the movie.
Love your star wars videos , still got all my vintage toys in parents loft , used and abused, but boy did I have fun playing when I was a kid , magical time . Action man n Lego more personal faves , looking forward to next video.
It looks great Dave. Who cares what other people think, if you enjoy it that's all that matters. There are other channels the Star Wars purists can watch if they don't like it.
I love the your custom ideas for this Star Wars ship especially the lights. There’s nothing like bringing broken tie fight parts into a nice custom. I love it Dave keep up the great work and videos 👍🏼
Hey Dave, long-time subscriber and first-time posting, just a quick tip, when drilling out screws and such, start with a small size bit like the size you use on your hand drill and then work your drill bit size up until you take the head of the fastener off, or you are able to get an easy out in the fastener. Love your content, man, I've learned a lot from your videos thank you!
The battle damage overlays really reminds me of the battle damage sticker under the hood panel on the Humvee toy from Trendmasters' Godzilla '98 toy line
Looks great! Nice job! Earlier this year i bought a heavily worn, but inexpensive, white TIE Fighter, with the goal of making it displayable. I have been thinking about swapping out the red LED for a green one. Based on how nice this one looks with a green LED, I just might do it. Thanks for making this video!
Really loved this one Dave. Probably the most satisfying “hot soapy water” wash ever? Worth its own short video I reckon! Such a satisfying result from what you started with. I recently fixed an Interceptor with similar wing issues as this (broken clips/clip supports etc) and used very similar styrene pieces, so I was chuffed to see you doing this as well. Interested to now how your clip support bracket handled the pressure of pushing the spring in? Mine definitely required some reinforcement and took about 3 goes to get right. Great video and great result. The red glow looks SO cool!
For that little hole in the back where the old switch was you should put a push button switch that controls the green LED. Dave, a little tip for removing rusted screws like that is to take take a Dremel/Rotory tool and a thin grinding/cutting wheel and cut a slit in the head of the screw so that a flat head screwdriver can fit into it and you can unscrew it from there. 👍👍
If there's anything I like more than your custom stickers, it's those interior LEDs you add, especially to Star Wars vehicles! 👌 I got a bit stressed out just looking at the initial repairs it needed, but as always, your 'can-do' attitude is to be admired! Great job!
Outstanding stuff! Thank you! If it's any help, one thing I did with my POTF2 TIE craft when they came out was to fill in the open windows on the top hatches, to keep dust out. All you really need is the round part part of a clear 2L soda bottle to cut a couple panels out of, and something adhesive to stick the panels into the hatches with. Ridiculously easy fix, and you'll never have to dust the inside of your TIEs again!
Dude, gotta tell you, I found a bag full of Lego parts for $3. There were plenty of bits that you use for repairing figures and such. I just fixed my Roscoe P Coltrane 3.75 inch figure with a broken arm with your method. Thanks a bunch
Next time try cutting a slot in and using a straight screwdriver to unscrew it. With a small grind wheel and a Dremel it will cut without melting the plastic. I do this all the time with stripped screws in plastic.
It looks brilliant 👏 Especially love the mod of the original from red to green. Cockpit lights are a huge improvement. Red light glow on darth is so cool! great idea.
Dave this video is absolutely amazing. It's got it all, repairs, wiring, photoshopped sticker design. Etc. Definitely one of my new favorite videos. I'll be watching this one several times I'm sure. Thanks for what you do as always Dave.
I really enjoyed this video. I absolutely loved the green laser light the best The red interior light really brought it together. :) Thanks for the video
Absolutely fun resto-mod I am also fan of adding more lighting. A great build, mean while in another universe: " Look he's making his own merch-un-dice Yogurt, will this effect our bottom line? Yogurt: the bottom looks fine from where I'm standing.
Watching you tear out the motor nearly killed me. They sound awful but the nostalgia they awaken is priceless. That being said, I was inspired by your customizations to painstakingly recreated the motor and lighting rig and built it into my POTF Tie Fighter and absolutely love the results. Sounds as awful as the originals!
Well first thing comes to mind that I would say, Darth Vader the empire strikes back - impressive most impressive, you took junk understandable old worn-out played with star wars and made it cool, I have an idea and a question at the same time, would a small pair of vice grips clamped down on the head of the screw then slightly turning the screw work ? Or were the screws to rusty to try that method ? I heard you talking about them being in rough condition but couldn't really see to well. The lights are obviously awesome but I think the damage stickers you made were the best part a very factory original look, the clear cracked window gives it character makes you imagine maybe it would be cracked from the damage that was inflected from the other ship or maybe if he crashed it a possible sceen in the the movie that was never made. You don't like the screeching sound lol keener tried, be cool if it made laser blast sounds like on the movie but that sounds complex and expensive. If you have something to wipe on Darth Vader to get him to have more of a glossy shine those red lights would probably reflect more vibrant, awesome mate I found this inspiring 👍
Incredible work as always sir. Quick question, is there a reason you didn't use WD40 on the seized screws? Would it hurt the plastic or is it not available in the UK?
Very nice, I have a load of parts I could make one with, maybe they could 3d print those wing connector hooks as they always break and could easily replace the damaged ones.
Are people taking digital recordings of the movie sound effects for tie fighters and adding a small speakers to play when buttons are pushed? My memories of those movies include all those wonderful sound effects and it would be the perfect addition to the custom lighting effects.
I had the Jupiter 2 playset, and a corded remote control robot.. the land rover. The Jupiter spaceship top would come off, and it had all the compartments, the control panels and everything. @@toypolloi But it was made of Styrofoam. My dad threw it away as a punishment for something I did. I wish I still had it. Thanks!
Oh a couple of light passes with a heat gun prior to work will temper and rejuvenate the plastic. Plus you can use a heat gun the fix that battery cover.
I'm working on rebuilding the Tie Interceptor and Darth Vader Tie Fighter with a green light bulb. In addition I also want to custom make the Darth Vader Tie Fighter as battle damage. I need to buy the damage decals from you.
Plus one on the dremel . Lots of masking tape to keep the sparks out of the plastic. With that gender I'm sure you have metal flakes in the side of the toy. The reason that second hold down broke was the drill bit was driving the screw into the toy! Try left handed drill bits for screw removal. Alot of the time like 60%they will just back out!!!!
What often helps me is to soak the body parts with rusty screws in some vinegar. The rust dissolves slightly and you can then unscrew the screws with some pressure.
Loved watching this and looks great. Have to ask, could you have maybe shaved the edge of the battle damaged wings down and had the damage sticker start at the top of the wing? Looks a little strange with the battle damage not affecting the edge of the wing. Not a criticism, I watch your videos as I would be useless trying to do this kind of thing 😂
When removing a screw like that, it might be better to a) use a smaller drill bit than you did to drill it out, or b) use a small Dremel cutting disc to cut a _slot_ into the screw, so you can use a larger flat screwdriver to unscrew it.
I was hoping you'd build out the back of the cockpit with that curved flat section the real model has. Maybe a difficult build that though. Still, a great job all the same!
I know next to nothing about wiring, but is the wiring used here the thinnest type of wire you can get? The reason I ask is I am looking to repair my Dapol Doctor Who TARDIS, and need some thin wire like this as the old stuff broke (the batteries leaked and when I tried to clean it up they broke. I was going to just replace the wires and the little bulb if possible). I have the new battery and just need the wires but didnt know what type of wire I would need.
This is a fun, fairly simple custom. Very nicely done!! So nice in fact, im going to steal your ideas!! Thank you...and due to my ignorance, would you mind sharing which LED bulbs exactly, and which switch?
Same process for deyellowing other plastic but it can often cause the plastic to go frosty so I would recommend testing first. Or just enjoy the wabi sabi of it. Cheers
The force is strong with this one... 🛸
What I really enjoy about your videos is the music selection!!!
lol Makes it looks so easy. Amazing job as always!
And yet again an amazing repair whit Verry cool battle damage. And Nice lichting.👌👌👌
Nice work 🎉
Always awesome 😊
This looks bloody awesome Brother 👍🏻🇦🇺
Thanks 👍
very cool toy would love that as a kid
That cracked glass is a really nice touch. I love it.
well awesome finish looks stunning.
The red interior lights is just, chef's kiss.
What a brilliant idea. It looks good as a unique variant.
Absolutely BRILLIANT M8!!!!
Wow that will look great on the shelf Fabulous 🤩
Needle-nose vise grips are great for removing stuck screws
What a delightful end result! Love the red LED effect in the cockpit.
Thank you! Cheers!
This is great! I like that the battle damage is matte against the glossy panel stickers - it makes it look distinct. Wonderful custom!
Thanks so much! 😊
I love watching your repairs, but the customizations are amazing.
Glad you like them!
Another fun video, I appreciate and highly respect you for providing your hard work and artistic skills for FREE! Thanks for sharing, love your work!
One of your finest projects to date - absolutely amazing - super kudos!
Thank you! Cheers!
Wonderful work! As always, you amaze!
that wing damage looks amazing
Looks GREAT! That sticker is really amazing too!
Wow! You always have the great ideas. I will definitely be trying this! Thank You!
You are so welcome!
Amazing and Toyrrific work, TP looks perfect to me.
Thank you very much!
My dad customed my ATAT back in the day by inserting a calculator led display into the cockpit. It was utterly amazing seeing these garbled led characters lighting up the cockpit.
That sounds great.
Absoluteley stunning Dave
Dremel tools are made for this type of thing
Or a massive angle grinder 😂
Cool Custom, I love it!!!
Very interesting, I would love to have one in my collection.
It would be neat to see the toys set in the collection at the end of the videos. Always enjoy your videos. Thank you for sharing.
"Wabby-Sabby" . . . . I love it! 😂
Wabi-sabi.

Great job as always 😎👍🏼
Thank you! Cheers!
Very cool 😎
Great job turning a pile of wreckage into a display piece.
Great fix and custom
Thanks 👍
The tie fighter that you made into Darth Vader vehicle is awesome great job Dave
Hey Dave
A great outcome, it will look amazing among your displays.
I really enjoy your customs.
I hope you and MrsTP have a wonderful weekend.
Take care😊
What an awesome restoration anyone would love to add this to their collection.
Awesome!

BRILLIANT!😁
you can heat a screwdriver to remove rusty screws from the plastic the screw gets hot and you can remove it easily
Love your star wars videos , still got all my vintage toys in parents loft , used and abused, but boy did I have fun playing when I was a kid , magical time . Action man n Lego more personal faves , looking forward to next video.

THANK YOU! I've had this sitting on my desk waiting for me to fix up. Right on time!
Perfect!
Great Work Dave! I absolutely love the red glow in the cockpit. It truly does mimic the imagery from the film perfectly. Cheers!
Glad you enjoyed it
Such great modifications, Dave! You make me want to rip into one of my extra Tie Fighters.
Looks great! Nice job!

I absolutely loved the green laser light the best
The red interior light really brought it together. :)

If you paint the struts in the canopy glass, it looks really authentic (as this is crossing the buondary between toy and model anyway)

Fabulous looking job Dave...although I think the original state it was in made it look like a 'Vader crashed onto an asteroid' diorama. Lol!!
I want one.
I really cant get enough of your customs TP. They always turn out to be some of my favorite videos of yours. I hope you make more in the future!
Thank you very much!

Wonder if somehow someday, a restoration of Jupiter 2 from Lost in Space would ever happen. Thanks for the memories!
Thanks. I only collect LIS toys from the 90's movie. Those ship and robot designs are amazing.

Use that grinder or as me and my buddy calls it a universal wrench

Zippo lighter fluid removes stickers really cleanly. I've used it on Millennium Falcons and X-Wings. Give it a try.
It does, you'll see me use it in most of my videos. These stickers had gone way past that stage.
If the stickers are a bit too shiny, why not semi-gloss coat them?
That turned out super awesome, perhaps you could add film realistic sound effects ??
It could be done for sure. Not sure how often I would use them so I'll stick to just the lights
I use a soldering iron to heat up bad sreaws ect and the heat removes them
When removing a screw like that, it might be better to a) use a smaller drill bit than you did to drill it out, or b) use a small Dremel cutting disc to cut a _slot_ into the screw, so you can use a larger flat screwdriver to unscrew it.
From scavenged parts to absolute display piece. I really like the light addition and the change. Such a great ship.

Search for RC light kit on eBay and you should find something that will work.

Pretty cool, but why not just use the battery terminals that are there?
I wanted to use a different battery with more oomph. Cheers
