Glad I watched this video and purchased the Predator Phoenix shovel. After receiving the shovel, I was able to dig perfect plugs on my first try. Plugs can be effortlessly removed and flipped back using one hand. When finished, the plugs fit back perfectly with no evidence of the ground being disturbed. Thanks for sharing this information.

I love seeing a good tool with character. A tool with that much character has proven its worth in taking care of its owners needs. The bond between a man and his tools is a very special one and I love how Jeremy highlights this type of stuff in his content. I bought one because of him and it amplified my joy for detecting so much and I really appreciate this type of content.

One of your 1st vids I watched of yours, you were doing a curb strip vid and gave a quick review on the Phoenix, so I bought one. Put my Whites away as a back up and used this for the last 3 years. Mine has cracked as well. Noticed the crack couple weeks ago. Still using it. I am super tough on it too. Only con I have is it is a tad short for me. I am 6'1". I will go for the Hurricane. Same spade, but is 5" taller and T Handled. Nice vid. Greatest plug shovel ever.

3rd reason is the most important to me I understand why it' will be great
the ergonomics of that shovel are just what I need personally I'm a 6 foot + and 270 lbs and bending all the way to the ground to pop a plug well it's time consuming and exhausting I only got so many holes in me and have to be selective on what I dig even though I know I should dig every good repeatable both ways signals
I just just can't do it health wise. And this is something I could use to make the holes I do dig less tiring and that will give me more holes on the day. You said everything right to make me set up and pay attention so I'm seconding you but I will have one no question about it I hate the rootslayer I been using for 3 years for these very reasons like cutting the plug and making 17stabs in a circle just to extract a 7inch plug this is a perfect explanation of work smatter not harder. Thank you for sharing

The Phoenix shovel is like cheating. You will be able to dig more targets out because it takes much less effort with the Phoenix.

  • @jaystrongbow6111

I totally agree, I have the Hurricane (T handle version) of the Pheonix and use it for lawns and places I don't need to go deep like lawns. It does cut great lawn plugs. All my Predator shovels are really tough. I wish they would make the Pheonix/Hurricane a few inches longer, it would be more all around. Phoenix is way too small for plow fields with very deep targets, it stays home on those hunts. Ranger there, but ya, wish they would curve the blade a bit. Great vid man.

I saw one of your earlier video’s on the Predator Pheoenix shovel and had to buy one. I’m new to detecting and took your advice . So glad I did, love it! I went back looking at your videos to see which hand tool you recommend. I didn’t find any specific recommendations but notice you use a Whites hand tool. I thought about the Raptor digging tool. Same concept but in a hand tool. It looks kind a big though, so holding off for now. Thanks for your great videos!

I have a raptor and it is big. The raptor works well in soft soil without thick roots. I tried it in my clay and could only use it for about an hour. The raptor does not have teeth so roots are a no go. I Have been using the Predator 85 hand digger for the last year and has held up very well.

Have tried so many shovels over more than the past decade. The cupped or dished blade is a game changer, like he mentioned. I ditched the phoenix’s for the slightly longer "hurricane" model (has the same blade, but they only offer a T-handle) which I love. If you don't ha
are missing out on so much easier and faster plugs/digs.

Hey Streak, doesn’t George guarantee his tools? I knew him from coming to relic shows, he went relic hunting with a local friend. George is a top notch guy, got a raw deal on the family business he helped/built. He had to start over from scratch. He is an innovator, first 90 degree hand digger, used to make a shovel that would go straight or 90 degrees, built a custom one for Wayne Aldridge, etc. I really appreciate your insight. I dig for relics in the woods, I’ve hit single Minnie balls with my Deus 1, 3.2 software 16-18” deep, measured with pinpointer, not stuck in the side of the hole, etc. since the woods here is typically not too hard, I use a landscape shovel with a 14” blade. Not perfect but I’ve had the same shovel for years. You bring up great points on how that shovel works, very insightful. If I can get some yards to hunt this fall, I’ll get one of those. What’s the weight? George should keep you supplied for life, you have to have more digs on your shovel than anyone else. Call George, tell him to frame your shovel, put it on his wall with the millions of holes plaque, then send you “shovels for life”. I wish I had you stamina and excitement for detecting, you rock!

How heavy is the predator Phoenix shovel with the foot pads attached to it? They look like they add a lot more strength to the shovel when you're pounding on it with your foot, but I'm concerned as to how much weight it's going to be dragging it around a field.

The Phoenix is about 2" too short for me and I am 6'. I think you would be happier with the Hurricane. You can call predator tools and ask for a longer Phoenix. I think a shovel should be 36" long for a 6 foot stature. A shovel that is too long is much much better than a shovel that is too short.

This is my opinion about the long handle shovels they were the worst tool that manufacturers ever brought into the hobby,,, Many states and towns band metal detecting because of people using long handle shovels in parks,,I watch your videos I see how neat you are with your plugs but people don't understand what you're doing all they see is you digging a hole and doing damage and that's why these long handle shovels have been a threat to our hobby,, When I started out I was using a screwdriver just to extract the coins in parks and never had a problem with it even police have come up to me and mention how good I was at leaving everything neat,,, Nowadays I use just a little hand trowel and most places will accept that versus the long handle shovels and you don't look so obvious digging a hole with a smaller tool,

Screwdrivers and coin probes do not work in my dense clay. Do you use your screwdriver in farm fields? Would you use a coin probe for hunting on the beach? I have had many police stop and talk with me. After you dig a few thousand holes with a shovel....you learn how to make cleaner plugs than an hand digger.

I have much more control while digging with the D handle because my grip is not interrupted by the shovel shaft. I do not like T handles because the shaft has to lie between the middle and ring fingers. The Hurricane is a couple inches longer which is better if you are taller than 6 foot. I am 6 foot and the Phoenix is just a little bit short. The Hurricane has the same head as the Phoenix. That dish shaped spade makes the perfect plugs.

I have a T handle and I dont grab it in the middle. You grab the right side if your right handed. And when I'm digging a deeper target I'm using two hands. Try to get two hands wrapped around the center of a D handle. And if your digging when its colder with gloves on its impossible. I dont see the advantage of a D Handle for me.
