I miss my old church!!
A surprising theme from both Amy and Patrick: "do what God wants, and you can expect things to go well for you." Not "you will be resurrected to eternal life in the world to come" or "you will go straight to heaven when you die" or "actually, you never will die."
This is surprisingly consistent with messages in the OT. For instance, in Deuteronomy 30, it says:
“See, I have placed before you today life and happiness, and death and adversity,
16in that I am commanding you today to love the LORD your God, to walk in His ways and to keep His commandments, His statutes, and His judgments, so that you may live..." 17“But if your heart turns away and you will not obey, but allow yourself to be led astray and you worship other gods and serve them,
18I declare to you today that you will certainly perish."
Remember too, that Job's friends conclude that he must have done something to upset God, or else Job would not be suffering as he was.
1. Is this theme ("do what God says, and you can expect things to go well for you) consistent with accepted christian theology/doctrines?
2. Is this a kind of prosperity gospel?
3. Do the verses Patrick quoted (Matthew 6:33, Matthew 7:7, 2 Timothy 2:25, 1 John 2:15, Colossians 3:1) actually support this theme?
