The followers of influencers is what is brands are tapping into. Young women is the hardest group to market to so smartly, these brands hook up with influencers for that reason. Esquire magazine’s EIC doesn’t seem to understand that. Conventional marketing doesn’t work for the young market, and that is who beauty and fashion companies desire most as customers.
Desi Perkins has 3 milIion subscribers on TH-cam alone. It’s kind of fascinating.

So we're raising a generation of insecure kids who if they follow these ppl, feel pressure because they can't afford the clothes. Real journalists are needed. I like the guy in the yellow scarf. He had points.

I understand where the guy was coming from, the one who was talking about Influencers not matching Magazine as far as story telling. But the world is changing and evolving, especially in marketing and media. I think over time the weak links will be weeded out and people will get back to authentic story telling..Painting the picture...But if he sticks with That type of thinking and doesn't change with the times, him and Esquire will get left behind. Print is already dying so don't be so quick to knock influencers

This is just an evolution of what TV commercials and radio ads had for the good part of a century. Since social media access is generally free to everyone who pays for internet access and has a phone/computer/whatever (So most of the modern world), its easier to grab the views and the money from more people than from paid services with less people (i.e. TV, radio, newspaper, books, etc.). Just marketing evolving. It's always been a hollow profession devoid of actual worldly contribution. I bet AR (augmented reality) devices will take this a notch further with social media advertising just popping up around your daily life.

Desi! I don't follow fashion influencers but there are a lot of beauty influencers that I like and Desi is one of the best (extremely talented and genuine)

It became more democratic to join the beauty business. It is people who decide who they want to follow not that much that you know somebody powerful. This is the shift of power to the people.

Of ALL the influencers to interview, you chose Desi? Really? You should have chosen Jaclyn Hill or Tati or Manny MUA or Shayla or someone else who has been doing this a lot longer.
Don't discredit Desi. Maybe she's been more successful & that's why she was chosen.
This video would have been more complete if they interviewed @fohr. They are THE influencer marketing ad shop.
