I love the way you remain neutral in your videos I've seen. It is so helpful when you stick with the facts, as you do, rather than tell us your opinion. Keep that up.

Randy King Thanks, Randy! Keith Hughes and I have had discussions about this sort of thing - we both have strong opinions on all things political, but these instructional videos aren't always the best place to insert them.

Tom Richey Agreed. Keep doing what you're doing. I prefer NOT knowing, or being able to guess, how you lean.

Kansas doesn't have an open primary, unfortunately. Great video! One thing I would add is that most people vote for Republicans or Democrats mostly because they have to. They often feel a vote for any third party is a "wasted vote." Thus, they become "leaners" out of pragmatism, not out adhering to their own values. They work within the established system. I would make the claim that people's actual views do not fit nicely in ANY political party. I would also make the claim that the majority of citizens in this country have both socialist and libertarian views, whether they realize it or not. The problem with identifying ourselves by political parties is that it pigeonholes us. It's a box that most don't like to be trapped in.

Mr. Beat's Social Studies Channel You're onto something there. In Europe, where the political systems are more friendly to the development of a multi-party system, people vote more in accordance with their actual political beliefs. Our system of government, with all of its complexities, lends itself to the formation of large coalitions that try to control as many facets of the government as possible. And a lot of Americans are, indeed, of a cafeteria mindset when it comes to politics.

Your disposition within your voice was well maintained, the facts were there and the presentation bought forth pictures to see.

Have you seen CPG Grey's video on the problems with first past the post voting? I think the things explained in that video might help explain why 45% of people identify as independent but very few vote that way. Also, thanks for the good video.

I loved this video! You did a great job! Im a little late, but my government teacher shared this video with us. Would you do a video on world war 2 and share your thoughts? Thanks, take care.

Thanks for the new video. Any chance you could explain the electoral college, how it works and why we have it?

kelly r It looks like there are already several good videos on the topic. I'd recommend this one by Keith Hughes: The Electoral College for Dummies: How it Works CGPGrey also has three videos explaining it. Let me know if those still leave you with questions and I'll see what I can do.

Thank you for the video. It would be great if you could add to the video or slides the population of Americans who vote. Maybe look at demographic numbers. For instance, out of 330 million Americans, how many Americans vote in elections-- as well as, how many are qualified to vote? Thanks Again!

I am an Independent! I tend to vote against the Republicans which leaves the lesser of Evils the Democrats. The problem of choice is with our First Past the Post Electoral System that essentially only allows of Two Party's to be a serious choice. I am an Advocate for Ranked Choice Voting--especially in it's Multi-member Representation Version. We need more that two choices! =)

Didn't hear him mention anything about some state primaries being restricted to allow only part-identified voters. Maybe he did, I didn't hear him. I think it's kind of important. We only have 'leaners' because both parties are disgusting.

+Fuzzy Dunlop I don't think that is immediately relevant to party identification - more for a separate video some other time on the primary election process.
