Actually, this went in a new custom home in Danville, CA, which is not exactly out in the sticks. It is fully code-compliant and passed without a problem. We made the treads thick enough so that the open-riser was just less than 4 inches. The railing on the right got installed after this video was shot. As for the stringer attachment at the base, the left stringer is attached to the wall and the right stringer is attached to the floor with an L-bracket, mostly hidden under the first tread. And BTW, there's an LVL inside that right stringer to the tune of 1-3/4 x 9-1/2". It's fully wrapped with White Oak.
