  • Following the footsteps of Harry Potter, we visited the Livraria Lello bookshop. We booked our tickets online a few days ago to avoid long queues.
Once inside, you rightly feel like you're in another world, like a fairy tale. The famous staircase impresses every visitor.
You get the admission price back when you buy a book. We purchase three good Portugal travel guides in German.
Afterwards we stroll along Rua das Flores.
On the way we can admire the street art mural of the Blue Cat by Liqen. The mural is in a small side street that is so narrow that it is difficult to photograph in its entirety.
At the end of the street, we turn into Rua de Belomonte. Antonio da Silva's Esgovaria de Belomonte is another location of significance for Harry Potter fans. The store has been family-run since 1927 and is said to have been the inspiration for J.K. Rowling's broom store "Quality for Quidditch". We were kindly allowed to film too.
Another movie is being filmed nearby, which we naturally observe with curiosity.
The Jardim do Infante Dom Henrique square houses in its center a monument to Prince Henry the Navigator, who once built Portugal into a global seafaring nation and helped to establish colonies for Portugal around the world.
The square is framed to the north by the Hard Club, a venue with music, food, and drink.
To the west is the Palácio da Bolsa, for which we have already bought tickets for a guided tour on our last day in Porto.
Next to it is the Igreja de São Francisco and its museum complex. On entering this church, we were immediately reminded of our visit to the Igreja e Convento de São Francisco church in Salvador da Bahia, Brazil. What both churches have in common is the black gold of Ouro Preto and an incredibly rich decoration. ( Pictures from our visit to Brazil: www.myvideomed... )
To the south of the Jardim do Infante Dom Henrique square is the Igreja Paroquial de São Nicolau, decorated with magnificent porcelain tiles.
At the Infante stop we watch Porto's historic tram for a while.
We then continue walking to the street art mural Mira by Daniel Eime and back along the Cais da Estiva.
After dark, we stop at the Mercearia das Flores on Rua das Flores. We have visited this restaurant several times because it offers traditional Portuguese products such as cheese, sausage, olives, and good wine. The service is very friendly.
