It still blows my mind how well this setup works behind the 1vd 🤩. Really needs some paddle shifters…. Any idea where to get some from?

We can make an oar shift the 8 speed no worries …. Forged carbon will be the way forward. 100 sets please.
Three modes will cut it for 4x4 work and towing. I am now hanging out for a 1HD-fte 6 cylinder engine adaptor to 8hp70. - lots of 100 series sixes to convert!!
They are likely gonna one of the next adapters we get to work on.

Impressive work fellas. cant beat a BMW 8 speed auto such a smooth fast gearbox! Id imagine bolting one of you're kits into a factory 70 series V8 would make it significantly quicker than a standard manual. not only that, fuel consumption must be so much easier to keep down in the city. Toyota should be taking notes 😉
How far this whole journey has come is pretty incredible really, from trying to decide between a diesel 6hp and the 8hp for your E90, to making the swap yourself, convincing Dan to try one out, to becoming the go-to place for retail 8hp swap kits...

V8 with zf 8 speed vs the new 2.8 auto.
1. Acceleration to 100kph
2. Top speed.
3. Towing with 3.5ton
4. Hill climb.
5. Fuel econimy
Well done guys. Thinking maybe most wont be sports shifting often, just click in drive and go and locating the shifter right up to the dash allowing cup holders and phone spots in the consol closer to the drivers hip.
TBH for me two modes is all I would need given it still has low range and high range. 1 for using all that torque to just cruise around at low RPM (Hate that the manual runs at 2200rpm at 100km/h), and 2 that keeps the gears a bit longer and more engine braking.
Regarding the conversation about the power it an take...I thought the ZF8 came in a version rated up to 1200NM?
HIeght factory rated ZF is 950nm. However thats the factory rating with warranty etc. Its general belief they will take that 1200nm in stock form.
Amazing people buy these over priced, over rated piles of shit and then spend $100k on them to make them how they should be off the showroom floor. That said, kudos for the amount of work to fit an 8 speed auto!

I think the standard bmw shifter would be mint with a console for me but other would prefer the race style, so doing an option would be my thought
Auto, sports and manual modes are enough - the whole thing is an upgrade in every measuse. I wouldn't bother with another function knob as a 4wder. 🍻

Whats the chances of getting the 8HP into a 100 series to replace the A442F between the 2UZ and HF2A transfer?
Seems like UZ bellhousing adapter is available from PMC and transfer adapter from fusionfabindustries
We have a few uz adapters on the way from domiwotks. So will just need the transfer adapter, lamik Tcu and a box 🤪

I note the lamik vid panel is a bit small for installation in the dash and somewhere useful and easy to read.
So in a earlier post you said that you can’t sores new gear boxes as how popular this may be will it be a matter of finding your own gear box? And will there become a shortage of the right model?
We are expexting to supply the boxes. Wont be an issue for us to supply the units for the 500 people on the waiting list. Getting all the parts in the kits made in high volume is the current issue.

Number of modes : agree KISS, is there an option where someone could program one of their own to suit themselves?
The amount of braking through the gearbox, how will you know if you program enough?
Going down a steep track in 1st Lo range without having to apply brakes is great! Can you achieve the same with the auto.
Also same scenario, (going down hill in 1st Lo) however now your towing a van, GCM of 6ish tonnes, can you program gearbox braking to cater for this?

Great job guys on working out a kit for the 8spd auto conversion 👌. As an owner of a VW V6 Amarok I am lucky enough to have a similar version of this transmission, and I just love driving mine with the auto. I’ve found the 3 modes in mine (which are the same as you have with that unit from BMW) is definitely all you need. Haven’t found a need for wanting anything more because the transmission is so good. And they are definitely smooth 👌. Curious to know if you will be tuning the second gear shift to be slightly more aggressive? I know they did change the tuning slightly in the VWs so it would be a bit more of a “positive “ shift while under load, like for towing. Apparently it was a request from the Australian VW side which requested this change, so it be better for towing. The downside is that on startup when the trans is cold it can be a bit more of a rough change. But once it has some temperature in it, it is smooth again. Great job guys. Keep up the great work👌👍
Regarding the tuning, the difference between the VW/Audi zf and BMW is quite vast. In fact all manufacturers seem to go about the software and drive ability quite differently. This controller is more so like the BMW algorythms for shifting and clutch transitions. However it is changed again. We have done some work on the shifting in the lower gears and slow speeds to more so suit the torque band of the 1vd. But on the same note the controller was pretty good out of the box.
I’d love one of these in my 200 series as well. The 6 speed is pretty average.

I HATE You!! 🤣🤣 I'm even more interested now than ever (even though I don't have a cruiser) After your last video I started to look around at costs & it seems the bellhousing for my Chev is a multi fit (which is fine if I ever get around to upgrading to an LS) but from the UK ? I can understand for the European stuff, but Chev? There is an odd trans out there for sale too & yes, while the controllers are up there price wise I can certainly see why you have gone for them. More homework to do by the sounds of things. Thanks for another great video & inspiration!! 👍

Hi There, we dont have a kit. But can supply engine to trans adapter, the transmission, controller for the trans and trans to transfer case adapater. You will need to modify your tail shafts and work everything else out. But the hard parts are done.
Still waiting for confirmation on a future 200series auto swap to this.

@Zero To 60 haha decent auto in a 200 series definitely. I hate the stock box characteristics in mine. Uses so much unnecessary fuel and they just slip and don't put the power and torque to the ground under normal driving conditions. What's the point of a nice V8 if the power isn't making it to the wheels and uses more fuel than it should.
If you come up with a kit and can utilise the factory gea selector so everything looks factory you will have my money.
@@1989cranston There has recently been an update to our controller which allows us to use the Toyota shifter. So its defintely possible.

We will need a slightly different wiring harness for the left drive countries. However the rest of the kit should be fine.
Are enough people crashing and writing off their BMWs to ensure you have a good supply of transmissions?

Supply will not be an issue. Production numbers on the BMW 8 speeds we are using dwarf the land cruisers. And while the BMW boxes are solid. The drivers of them are not.. haha

I've had a NAG1 that others are trying to setup as a conversion and also a 8hp70 and chalk and cheese. Killed 3 nag 5 speeds. ZF is what autos always should've been. The lock up in every gear soon as your moving is a game changer. Our 6 speed auto toyota is complete trash without having the ecu fiddled with

Question for you what signals do you need from the engine? I’m been thinking the 8speed would be awesome behind my lazy ish rd28 but it’s full mechanical, does have a electric tach signal
The Tcu needs accel pedal position, rpm and boost. With those we can calculate rough what power the engine is making and the pedal position is used to calculate shift points and shift aggression.

How hard is it to do a n54 manual to 8hp45 swap? Haven’t really found any information on how to accomplish that swap and what do I need to make it work? Willing to document it all if you can help me figure it out
That is easy to work out. Jump on to some forums and get on it with it i say haha. Unfortunately its not something i have lined up.

Does the Turbolamik TCU blip the throttle and rev match on a downshift if shifting down gears in manual mode?
The blip feature is coming but we wont be putting it in this kit. It’s really only for track cars. Not needed on street setups or even the drift cars.

Have you had any fuel consumption figures from testing or Macca compared to manual?.
Macca said he got way better fuel economy. But it was a little too good to be true. We are planning to do some testing in the second car this week, which should be a lot more relevant to most people.

Dan had a TPS on the first clutch he setup with his E46 when it was DCT. Had issues getting the progressiveness, which is why we went to a linear potenciometer.

Yes, we are making the kit quite complex, so the install is very easy. We figured it would be better to put more effort in to the kit at the manufacturing level and make the install in to the car much quicker and easier.
Are they good in big diesels, like a Cummins
Haven’t seen one behind a Cummins myself. But it seems the lower the rpm the higher the torque handling if that makes sense.

We really need some more insight on the 8hp upgrades for more torque handling, what is upgraded, what clutches are used, are more clutches packed, IS THE e clutch hub upgraded? ETC ETC! Great work BTW fellas!
Its something i really want to play with myself, before i talk about it. There are plenty of people doing upgrades for the 8hps.

It is possible with the turbo lamik controller..... however im not sure what the intergration is like between the lamik and the audi at the moment.
