With that being said, one artist he doesn't care to listen to is Slim Jesus, the White drill rapper from Hamilton, Ohio who admitted to not living up to the words in his songs on several occasions. "Me personally, I won't listen to something like that," Paul tells DJ Vlad. "I wanna listen to something where they're speaking about something that's authentic."
"We all know every rapper exaggerated a little bit, but to go that far about it you gotta at least come from somewhere - at least for me to listen to you," Paul Wall continues. If Slim Jesus were from his hometown Paul admits he'd "feel differently," but in the end he'd "much rather listen to Chief Keef" or Lil Mouse because they rap about what they know.

Regarding the Slim Jesus interview what bothers me is that he raps about a lifestyle he's fortunate not to be involved in. What's sad is that what SlimJesus said about him rappin about a lifestyle that's appealing to the suburban youth as well as the urban youth, however, we were poor not having a variety of food to eat, wearing "hand me downs" and never having 2 nickels to rub together. So hustlaz were our role models bcuz they always had clothes, car, money & girls. So we grew up and sold drugz to attain the things our predecessors had. With that came protecting your block, making examples of people who crossed you, and engaging in takeover's bcuz another block brought you more money. There weren't "sit downs" it was about putting in work whether it was defensively or offensively and the more ruthless you were, the less you were tried (and we ALL were tried). The point is, we were a product of our environment, yes we had choice's, but they were "preconditioned"!
Nowadays our youth glorifies that but fortunately don't live it and to be quite frank, rapper's today don't live that life either (with the exception of a few) in the beginning it was true bcuz they were verbally expressing there life and how they lived it, their raps were based on what they knew & experienced, not based on being "trendy"! With that said, at least Slim Jesus admitted he really wasn't bout that life but it was just more fashionable to rap about and portray that image. And truth be told, I would say that the majority of rappers nowadays aren't truly about that life. You can tell because there aren't but very few rappers that have done time in prison (not jail but prison) and the other G'd up rappers have passed away (rip) so to Slim Jesus I would say, rap about feel good music, girls, parties, etc bcuz there are those (though fewer then b4) that are really living that life and you're an imposter and they Will try you. Just make life easier for yourself, and rap about the event's happening in your life.
