    Great vid. LOVE this van.
    Two things that would make this perfect. 1) put in an aftermarket comfy folding bench seat in the back facing the window. That gives a usable lounge area if you’d like when the bed is up. Can just swing it up to the side when you want to use the garage. 2) a TV that folds up to the roof up front.
    How much was your van out the door if you don’t mind me asking?

    I keep watching videos on the Jayco Terrain and the Entegra Launch but nobody has turned on the coach/house stereo system. I’ve been wanting to see if that sound system sounds decent or if it’s just a waste. I don’t know if you could do a short video showing that feature and giving your thoughts but it’d likely be the ONLY video on TH-cam showing or talking about the system. Please, if you have time could you do a video on that sometime soon in the future?

    Great review! I bought the Blue/Grey Launch in Febuary, but it looks like its gonna be an 8 month wait to receive it due to my color choice. I'm so glad I didn't go with the Revel (Winnebago buys the strip down chasis where as Jayco buys the fully loaded chasis to build on). Do you or any other owners reading the comment section know how long the A/C will run on battery power?

    • @samryan7954
      @samryan7954 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I like to know too! 4 to 6 hours minimum, I would hope! 8 to 10 hours on lowest fan setting would be terrific in getting a good overnight's sleep from the air-conditioning system.👍

    • @robvanguy
      @robvanguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A/C at full blast (fan and compressor on) uses about 15% of the battery per hour. I haven’t had to use the a/c for an extended period of time so unable to say what a realistic usage is since the a/c cycles. Happy to report back.

    Great video. I just got a Launch, which is the same vehicle. The tech who did my walkthrough didn't know anything. Do you know when you are supposed to turn off the inverter? do you turn it off when you plug into the main shoreline power? Also I turned everything off but the refrigerator, yet my RV didn't really charge in the day, and it was sunny. Do you know why that may be? The batteries charge when I drive

    • @robvanguy
      @robvanguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks! It's a new model so many of the techs are not so familiar with the specifics yet.
      You'll want to turn on the inverter when:
      - Charging via shoreline
      - Using electric heat or hot water via Timberline
      - Using 110AC standard outlet plugs
      PV (solar) charge isn't enough to fully offset your 12V fridge consumption. 200W of solar isn't alot. I reco turning off your inverter if you don't use it to decrease battery consumption.

    • @yangban07
      @yangban07 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robvanguy Thank you very much. Sorry I am a little confused. Turning on the inverter itself will consume the battery? I can leave the inverter on when plugging in to the shoreline? If I turn off the inverter will the refrigerator still work? When should I turn the inverter off?

    • @robvanguy
      @robvanguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No worries! This was all confusing to me when I first got the van too.
      The inverter consumes about 50 watts when turned on with no load, so you’ll want to leave it off unless you are charging via shoreline or using the standard 110V house outlets. You will also need it on if you are using electric heat (which basically does nothing).

    • @robvanguy
      @robvanguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The fridge will be on as long as your 12V house switch is on (the red right and switch under the fridge).

    Hi love the walkthrough for newbies, curious what happened to sprinter camper van every new van sale prices just took 50% off of msrp than last year.

    • @robvanguy
      @robvanguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question. Prices have finally dropped or stabilized. Combo of factors -- higher interest rates (which make financing the purchase of a van more expensive to buy), higher inventory (smoothing of supply chains), and lastly, post-pandemic budget reshuffling (away from camping and towards other options).
      Based on new 2023 Terrains being sold and the price I paid though, there is only a 5-10% difference. This just means that dealers are more willing to cut prices during negotiations. I really had to fight for my price!

    I’m looking into this model too. It’s either storyteller or Revel but I think the jayco is the best option.
    Can you do a quick Video on your 1-year review? How do you like it? Would you buy again. How long does the AC run without connections or having the engine running?
    Also, looks like the price is a lot lower now. I’m seeing new units going to 150k!!

    • @robvanguy
      @robvanguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      All three vans have their pros and cons, and I had a similar short list as you. Generally, folks say the build quality of Storyteller is #1. Revel is the standard setter with a huge owner, vendor, and dealer network.
      I went with the Terrain because of the huge battery, enclosed bathroom, and passenger seats. No regrets on it and would buy again. It does have a few build issues that I fixed, but I think you'll get issues with any van.
      For the AC, it depends on your ambient temp/humidity as well as personal temperature preferences. If it's summer with a high of 100 and low of 80, I can run it 10 hours at night and be at about 50% battery. During the day, a good 6-8 hours, dependent on variables. When the AC is on high with fan and compressor running, it uses about 20-30 amps per hour, so theoretically, you can get 10 hours before depleting the battery, but real life is less than that. Either way, the performance is longer than the Revel.

    • @robvanguy
      @robvanguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I chose the Terrain above the Revel because of the real rear passenger seats (sits two vs one) and they are adjustable. The other reason is the beefy battery (3x the capacity of a Revel), so it can run the A/C for days, for example vs the Revel's 3 hour A/C limit.

      Yes, you can bring a microwave since there are lots of places in the Terrain with standard house plugs. I would store it in the garage area or in the foot well of the rear passenger seats.
      You can also plug in bottle heaters easily. The induction cook top that comes standard does heat things up pretty fast too. All these things can be powered by the house battery easily.
      Your kiddo will probably going to solid foods soon so those items may become less of a concern in the next year for you.

      I was on the phone with my dealer and a tech from Jayco, neither of them knew about this problem and they are looking into it. I requested to join your facebook group, once I see the picture, Ill fix it and let Jayco tech know! Hopefully they will fix it for future models

      I have some loose screws in the van door paneling so that rattles and some wiring in the bed rattles too. Both are easy fixes and do not bother me too much now.

    How do you power the ac?

    • @robvanguy
      @robvanguy  ปีที่แล้ว

      The AC is directly connected to the house battery so you can run it from there without shoreline or inverter.

    • @MichaelWilliams-ro9bm
      @MichaelWilliams-ro9bm ปีที่แล้ว

      House battery. Hmmm. How many are there?
      I have a 12 volt ac which is hooked up to five 100 amp lithium batteries (directly)
      I’m guessing you can’t run that ac longer than an hour on one battery 210 amp battery, be it gel or lithium. Not enough amps.
      Try running ac during the day and see how long it lasts. I’m curious!

    I don't know why they bother with a built in cassette toilet in such a tight space. A portable toilet would be better. The porta potti has the same tank capacity as this one and gets emptied the same way with the benefit of being able to remove it to have more room when you shower.

    • @robvanguy
      @robvanguy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The cassette system has a benefit of being able to remove the waste cassette from the exterior of the van instead of interior - also water and electric are integrated.
      Comes with the cost of taking up a bunch of space in the wet bath though. But I use the toilet more than showering so it has been ok for me.

    • @1nhonho
      @1nhonho 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@robvanguy I personally don't consider those benefits. The porta potti is an enclosed unit. Whether you take it out from inside or outside it doesn't affect anything. You fill the water tank of the porta potti right after dumping it, after that it's used just like the cassette. The porta potti does not require electricity but if it did you'd plug it from inside the van. And you'd be able to use your shower. But that's just me.

      That’s msrp. The rv industry is not like the auto industry. 30% discounts or better are common on motorhomes. Big high end class A’s can be 40% off. These Terrains can be had for about 150k. Still a lot but not 201k.
