I have listened for 19 mins so far. Manu's point about the need to contextualize history and not see it through contemporary lenses is very well made.
That said, I am somewhat agitated by the use of the word "naturally" so casually from a scholar when describing Tipu's violence against Hindus in the Malabar and elsewhere. Was it "natural" for all kings across ages to destroy places of worships of others' faiths and kill those people ? Isn't it worth exploring if Tipu's mindset was influenced by his being a Muslim ? Perhaps sending a pedestal for a vassal king's god was a political act and against his core beliefs. I get the sense he isn't quite contextualizing Tipu's actions but this interpretation of his is more due to confirmation bias at work.
Loved the overall conversation though, especially the way he made a persuasive argument to make his point about the need to read books.
I have watched all of his interviews in Malayalam... Since i live in North i was just checking how his Hindi is.... Damn💯
