      I highly recommend try planning for your ACT/SAT and learning about classes ahead [like getting books or studying what classes you make take in the future] . You may be taking Algebra 1 in 8th grade [at least my middle school did that]. Try to always aim for a 93 [or an A on a 4.0 scale]. While there isn't a shortcut to doing well, not everyone wants to do well. Keep up the grind even when it's tough and you'll be fine. If you need something to relieve stress with working hard, do anything you may enjoy: music, games, drawing, exercising, or anything not making you think ^_^ . Also, focus on majors and scholarships looking for your perfect school. I wish I thought like you as a 7th grader. You're ahead of your age! Nice!

    I’m only in 8th grade at the moment but want to go to either Princeton, Stanford, Harvard, or some other schools. I am currently in Algebra 1 and starting geometry next semester. My gpa is currently a 4.1. I also do some other extracurriculars such as wind ensemble, music club, and jazz band. Am I on the right track? Anyways, congrats on getting into UPenn, that’s an amazing school; I hope for the best!

      First off, great enthusiasm, there's never too early of a start to worry about college admissions because its a crapshoot
      Your GPA seems to be good but you're only in 8th grade and probably had at most 5 classes that actually counted for GPA. Also, different schools have different grading curves so GPA doesn't mean much, just keep it up and try to avoid B's if possible
      It seems like you're really invested in band so keep growing your passion by getting section leader, solos, etc. playing at prestigious places, just making it more important by gaining achievements. That's how colleges know that you're good. If you can't, you could still put a lot of effort into it by showing committment (tally how many years you play so on common app you can say "xxxx instrument for xxx years, xxx hours a week)
      Lastly, the ambition is great, but don't just target ivys because any top tier college is likely to get many overly qualified applicants and little is guarenteed. I suggest find some not as high (but still good!) schools like CMU, Northeastern (still a really hard school lol), USC that are really really good schools but are less random than T10s

    I’m currently in 6th grade and due to quarantine in nothing besides health class as a extra, and my gpa is currently a 3.5 but once I go to in person I plan to join cheer/dance, and track. My clubs are probably gonna be out of school since my school doesn’t have clubs, but I for sure wanna do choir and my grades are currently 3 Bs and 5 As, in 7th grade I would love to take algebra 1 (which I have started slightly) and when I take my PSAT I’m crossing my fingers that I get into a national ERIT scholarship, I’ve taken the SAT (not real) and only got in 15 questions and got around 9-10 right which I’m very proud of and I did it again not to long ago and I got a 36% when the normal is 50% so rn I’m proud and excited! Gl for college!!

    Hi, I had a question, and I'm an incoming freshman. So my school gave me the wrong classes, for example they gave me geometry when the highest I can take is Algebra 2. I emailed them a few times, but they still haven't changed my schedule. Would my chances of getting into an ivy league school be ruined since Im not taking the highest level classes that I can take because my school isn't letting me? This isn't just for math; this is also for my elective which is also a very low level class. Can I still get into a really good school with all of this going on in the background?

    • @elaine-gx8xl
      @elaine-gx8xl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should continue the instruments and foreign language if you take it, take more math and sciences courses in high school because that will better your changes into harvard med. if you're taking geometry right now i'd recommend algebra ii next year and if your school lets you double up do algebra ii and pre-calculus. that way, you can probably take ap calculus ab/bc by your sophomore year which will look impressive. also work your way up to ap biology, chemistry, physics, etc

    hello, do you think I’m good for a good college? I have an average gpa, nothing special...and I have not yet taken the SAT but I’m hoping for a higher score to compensate. As for extracurriculars, I am in two clubs, a section leader of the orchestra, a water polo player and a swimmer, I shadow a doctor on weekends, and I also teach English to international students from China. In addition I have participated in a summer program last year at brown and a health sciences immersion program at usc this year. I’m hopping to add another summer program this year too. Do you think I’m on the right track? Thanks!

    • @najuno
      @najuno 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      1. You can always boost your GPA by taking more APs or honors if your school allows, if not, getting A's will still help your GPA
      2. SAT doesn't compensate for GPA but will look good if you do well since it shows you're rly good at taking standardized tests and colleges like it
      3. If you're just in the club just to be in it, it doesnt mean much, whereas if you spend a lot lot lot of time for the club and still arent good at it, it means much more bc it shows dedication, aim for varsity water polo and swim / JOs / AAA times or something like that to actually have some quantitative stats to put down, section leader of the orchestra is a strong characteristic
      4. Try to do more with your shadow, like interning for him/her? as of rn, you wouldn't put "shadow a doctor" on your app bc it shows interest but not as much achievement
      5. keep teaching english that's good
      6. The summer program at Brown sounds sketch because i dont know of any prestigious/legit programs that are hosted at brown. Usually good programs should be free like ROSS, CMU SAMS, etc. just because you spent a week there doesn't mean much to admissions officers especially because it just means you had money and were able to spend it
      7.The immersion program seems a bit better since you actually were hands on for experience
      8. Make sure that the summer program is worth it or else you could spend the summer researching or interning or something of that caliber instead of wasting money to live at an ivy for a week
      im not an expert but I hope this helped :)

And how should I introduce the topic and not sound cliche if I can) I’ve also been doing violin for 5 years and hoping to do piano as well most likely towards February) I take normal classes I’m worried now because I have a 86 in writing I take art as well I’m really scared I don’t want to get a C anyway I’m not sure anymore what to do what should i do ? Cheer practice is every day and I don’t know if I should keep doing it, maybe that’s why my grade drop I don’t know what to do ?? HELLP how can I boost my gpa how do I prepare for SAT I want to become a doctor for emergency care how can I get through school without missing fun? Do I have to give it up? Is there a way to have fun and get into Ivy League ? I’m really lost and really scared , I go to a competitive private school there is a pre med program I’m striving to get into as well, but I’m currently overwhelmed because even now I have a 2 papers due tomorrow and a algebraic expression page that is due as well given over the weekend ,I’m also trying to get entered into a writing competition but I have to stand out against 124 other students who are extremely talented in everything and I’m crying because there are 25 students in 7 grade math classes and I couldn’t get into it so I do not have any idea how I can get into that and I was too scared to even try and get into the math Olympics because I have a 90 in math . I need some guidance and I hoping to find some here my tutor isn’t really helping she says that B are not bad and that is still above average but I need to Excel but how can excel if I got autocorrected spelling excel? You really don't need athletics especially if you're not passionate about it. As long as you get extra engaged in your passions is what matters. Also don't join the clubs if it's just to slap on in the extracurriculars questions. Colleges know when you do that. Make sure the clubs are actually relating to your passion.

    What would you consider to be the unspoken unweighted gpa cutoff? Also, mine is confusing because I go to a catholic college prep school and I have had to take religion classes. Do colleges look at the entire transcript or do they cut out every single class that is not "core"?

    • @JiaruiHu
      @JiaruiHu  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      hey aimee, you may want to research the mean/median GPAs for the specific schools you're interested in to find out more about those "unspoken cutoffs." As for the different classes, I (as a non-admissions officer) would assume that there's more of an emphasis on core classes, but every high school course roster is different, so you may be able to get more info by meeting with your hs guidance counselor or even contacting a college's admissions office. Please don't stress out about your GPA too much; it usually doesn't matter as much as students may think!

      You are probably not gonna have a chance XD. Ivy league colleges are looking for people that dive deep into one or two of their passions. Engage yourself in what interests you and what colleges are looking for. And when I mean what colleges are looking for I only mean "educational" stuff like band track languages etc.
