Oh no Maya, I can relate to you... Last week my elderly dog got a stomach infection and just wouldn't stand up anymore. I took her to the vet and cared for her for a whole week but she just wouldn't get better because of her age... She got worse and worse really fast and I had to say goodbye to her yesterday. She was my friend for 13 years... At the same time, one of my relatives left the door open and one of my cats escaped. Literally the same week. I've been looking for him everywhere. It would be sad anyways but I've been devastated with everything that's been going on... Sending you much love, it wasn't your fault.

I’m so sorry for your loss. My pit bull terrier had to be put down a couple weeks ago because he bit a grown man child to had food and kept shoving it in his face and then taking it away when he went for it gently. He kept messing with him and dozer went a little quickly to get the food and when he pulled back dozer got his fingers. Due to city law, he had to be put down because that entitle man baby couldn’t have possible provoked him at all. I guarantee if that was any other breed of dog everything would have been a-ok.
@@riverlee112 Thank you. I'm so sorry for your loss too... That is horrible. I felt terrible having to say goodbye to my dog but she was really sick so I knew I was doing a good thing. In your case, it sounds so infuriating and heartbreaking... I can't even imagine how you felt. So sorry.

My mother had to put down her horse last week for exactly the same reason. She had brought all the horses up to her cabin to get away from the heat and her gelding broke a leg out in the field shortly there-after... Freak accident, unfortunate timing. Horrible, I feel for you Maya.
Sad to hear :( Both rabbits I've had died of shock too. My first died because a storm scared it. The second died because a fox got into the garden it was in (the fox never got the rabbit but it was scared to death... literally)
For all of the comments saying "I thought all the animals at Alveus weren't pets" not all of them are. Maya lives on site at Alveus so it only makes sense that her pets would also be on site. If im correct, the ferrets, the rabbit, Acero, the goats and the dogs are her pets whereas the others are ambassadors i.e siren.
Poor Dunkin.
It feels like most small herbivores are just really fragile little things.
From the looks of things, she had a nice life at Alveus. Take care of yourself.

When I was a kid we had a big white rabbit. Coincidentally, it escaped from its outdoor cage one summer, got 10 feet away, when lightning struck about 100 feet away. We always assumed that it died of emotional shock (not electrical), and now you've confirmed it. Didn't know that about their hearts.
maya, i wish i had better words to say than how truly, truly sorry i am for your losses. please be kind to yourself and forgive yourself because you gave them both wonderful lives. rest in peace, miss doughnuts and newt, we miss you both

I’m so sorry ❤ similar thing to Dunkin’s death happened to my kitty a few weeks ago-minus broken leg. Just no certain explanation, and he was fine a few hours before. It makes it so your brain can’t stop going over all the different possibilities. It’s awful. So sad this is happening to Maya. She works so hard to make things good for every animal in her care.
RIP Dunkin 😥 We have some wild bunnies and hares here. So, I’m building a garden that I’ll open up to them near the end of summer. I don’t want to feed them directly and desensitize them so I figured this would be a decent way to go. 🐇🥰❤

I'm so sorry to hear that. It's been so hot and humid here I've been fighting heat exhaustion trying to maintain the property. I've been trying everything to keep everybody well hydrated and bug free and I managed to get a heat rash. I'm in Indiana, so we've been fighting air quality too. What a year. It's frustrating to know you can try to plan for everything but something is probably going to go wrong that you just have to deal with when it happens and hope you have the skills and luck to get through it. Sending good vibes. ❤
Oh god Dunkin. I’ve had a lot of experience with animal deaths from just having pets all my life and it honestly never gets easier. Glad Dunkin was cherished while the little friend was alive.

I had a week in my life during my early 20s where I lost 4 pets during an entire week. All for very different reasons, too. I feel for you, Dunkin will be very missed by everybody.
Idk if Maya has time to read these comments, but I'm so sad to hear about Dunkin :( My heart goes out to Maya. Dunkin was so loved and cared for. The tiny hat tryout video is my favorite, as a previous rabbit owner I could really tell how well cared for Dunkin was from how vibey she was.
I hope Maya is doing better. There's nothing wrong with taking time to let yourself grieve a little bit. She needs time for herself 🥺🩷

I had something similar happen to me. I came home from work one day and saw my cat laying between my clothes hampers I called out to her but she didn't react at all which was completely unusual. Then I noticed she was breathing shallow and had her mouth open and eyes closed. I went and moved her and her head kind of just fell and I realized she had broken her neck and she died a few minutes later in my arms. My only guess is she went to jump on a hamper and somehow managed to fall forward and couldn't catch herself from landing on her head. She was only 2 years old 😢
It took a long time to not blame myself for going into work on a different shift that day.

We used "Rodent Siren" in our house up near the foothill grasslands in California. It worked great against the mice coming in our attic during the winter months. They almost chewed through all of our indoor vacuum tubing, until we found that solution.

Even with what happened, I still think you did the right thing. Heat can be a huge issue for rabbit and they won't show any sign but suffer. What heppened next doesn't invalidate that first decision. Things can go wrong quickly with rabbits. I own two and we already lost two (or three... can't remember exactly) summer vacation because we had to nurse one of them after he got teeth issues, or got weird intestine issues and had to be a bit force fed on an hourly basis.
As you said, sometime you can do everything right and they can still die.
my aunt never drank, smoked, nothing.... died a few weeks ago from a tumour in her brain.... things happen. It sucks.
Bunnies are so fragile man. I remember my sister accidentally gave ours too much lettuce, and it died later that day. Simple mistakes! Ugh.
i am a lvt/cva from texas and i have seen a rabbit once get scared from a bug no joke bug, and kick real hard break her back and leg and die from it. i bet you something scared her and she kicked real hard and broke her leg and had a heart attack. i think it was 100% freak accident like you think but i be it wasn't even the leg getting caught she just kicked hard enough to break it and die from the heart attack,

This happened at my work a few months ago but it was a horse and we had to put her down 😞
My mom got us a rabbit as a kid and it got killed by getting stuck in the cage...she pushed and bent the door wnough for her head to squeeze through and got stuck like that :( I now habe my own rabbit, a lionhead named Penelope. I built her a starter cage for qhen she was a baby, and moved her to freeroam asap...she only used a cage for a couple weeks. I am so worried about her being injured so my entire room is more her room than mine...blankets and pillows everywhere, all danger zones absolutely blocked off, and I got these special covers for all my cables so she cannot chew them. She runs around like crazy...she is so fast she almost teleports.

Maybe I am just overthinking but on social media Alveus always makes sure to let people know that the animals at Alveus are ambassadors and not pets but it is possible the title of this video could cause confusion. Only since it says "pets at Alveus", just wanted to mention it.

I’m not saying that you’re overthinking, but she does state on the alveus channel the difference between her pets and ambassadors like her horse. This is different channel where it doesn’t really focus on the animal more so on the background like enrichment or other pets

When I was a kid my sister went through 4 albino rabbits. Our collie Champ was a master at stealthy rabbit kills. Usually we'd find the rabbits dead and mutilated hours after the incidents but one time we interrupted him when he had just grabbed the rabbit in his jaws for only a couple of seconds. We thought we had been just in time; the rabbit didn't have a scratch on him. Then 5 minutes later he started thrashing terribly and died of a heart attack. It was also the first time I heard a rabbit make any kind of vocalization. It was an awful high pitched, loud squealing sound. I thought rabbits were totally silent. Another time an austrailan rabbit we had was chased by our dog and had a stroke and was paralyzed on his side after that. So yeah, bunnies are such delicate little things, can't have too much excitement else their ticker explodes. Sorry for your loss.

I’m surprised that rabbits are so fragile, is it a domesticated thing? Because I can’t imagine it being good for the species in the wild for a rabbit to just drop dead from shock while being chased by a fox or something. Maybe since pet rabbits have less of a pressure from predators the ones that are more prone to anxiety bad enough to kill them aren’t weeded out from the population like they would be in the wild and so they pass these genes to the next generations of pet rabbits. I’m just speculating though I have no clue
Domestic rabbits are different species than for example cottontails. They are the same as European rabbits, that also live in the wild, but the wild ones are taught from day 1 that there is danger. Domestic ones usually don't learn this since it's too late. They are prey animals, so they are susceptible to being scared, especially domestic ones.

The horse, goats, two dogs _(at her place; she lives across from the Fox enclosure),_ ferret _(at her place),_ and I _believe_ Polly the chicken in the Nut House _(where the last 1/4 of this video is at)_ are HER animals and therefore are her pets.
Any others, are indeed Ambassadors.
With the exception of her horse and occasionally the goats, you almost never see the others. I think when Hassan came, they went over to her home, but that's the only recent time I think her dogs have been shown.

Not all of the animals are. Maya's house is on Alveus' property and she has her horse Acero living with Stompy, Winnie, and the donkeys so it stands to reason that all of her pets are there
My cat was eaten by a coyote recently in dallas tx. She was a sprite 13 yr old. Ran for her life. My neighbors saw it happen. Loving the animals is something many people dont understand. l cant sleep still.

I know this isn’t what this is about but I think it’s not right to leave people in the dark about pet’s deaths that work with them almost every day. People get very attached to animals they see regularly, and even though they’re your pets and it’s not necessarily everyone’s business, it would be kinder to tell flipp and other employees when they pass so they can react and feel sad in their own time. If it were me, I would feel sort of let down by that and like I wasn’t allowed to process the emotions privately because I am at work and behind a live camera when the news is broken to me. Cameraman feelings matter, I just wanted to put that out there to maybe consider a more tactful approach in the future.
Dunkin and Newt were Maya's personal pets, not sanctuary animals. The guys at Alveus (I assume) didn't work with them.
@@Bedfordshireman I know they’re her pets, but they live on site and the guys film her caring for them and making videos with them often. It’s not that she necessarily owes them that, I just think it would be kinder to the guys to include them in the sad news ahead of time.
with a million things going on at alveus right now with summer camp and the merch drop on top of all the regular streams, I highly doubt she purposely withheld that info from him especially when you take into account how close maya and flip are. I don't think her forgetting to mention something like that was out of malice or out of a lack of empathy for his feelings

Huh?? Her ferret died of old age and the rabbit was a freak accident.
She also works with a lot of animals that come from very hard situations which makes them have health complications that harm them when they get older

@@johnspencefareal420no, it's not the same thing, because first thing, rabbits are not rodents, they're lagomorphs, second, they do not belong in cages. Mine is roaming free, there's no smell of pee (if you would clean your hamster's cage there wouldn't be too), he has litter box like cat would have and he's part of the family.
